Kriya sat on her bed, feeling lonely because of the scarcity of people in the house. She sighed and opened the drawer beside her bed to find her phone. She saw a book, to be precise a photo album, and took it out from the desk and opened the book of memories.
She smiled as she went through the picture album. She traced her hands on a few remembering the huge mess of students they were in their school. She looked at one which caught her attention.
"Kriya!" She heard somebody shouting her name and looked here and there. Somebody tapped her shoulder and she turned around and saw her best friends, Neha and Vishakha standing in front of her.
"Kriya, dude, how was the exam?!" Vishakha exclaimed. Kriya's face lit up when she saw Vishakha and hugged her tight. "It was brilliant!" Kriya said letting go of Vishakha and hugging Neha. They were in 10th grade then. They were actually passing out their tenth. And that day was their last examination.
"Kriya. He's here." Neha told Kriya as she saw a person entering the school gates. Kriya's eyes widened and she pulled out of the hug quickly and straightened herself. She turned around and looked at the school's entrance.
And there entered Kriya's crush. Reyaansh Singhania. The most happening guy of the school. Inspite of being the most popular and rich guy in the school, Reyaansh did not have one thing, a big fat ego. Like every other rich brat does. And that is what Kriya liked the most about him.
He never gave heed to the girls gaping at him. He just walked through the crowd, not even realizing that it was assembled there for him. He walked over to the huge staircase in the school and was about to take a step when he turned and looked at Kriya. He smiled at her and she returned it, unconsciously. This was a daily routine. They used to smile at each other, they talked to the minimum and they were each other's respective crushes. But never did they have the guts to tell each other that.
They all paved their way into their classroom. They were gonna miss this place, like anything. They all came to school to bid goodbye to each other. The Next day was their farewell and they wanted to spend sometime with all the friends one last time. They were sitting on their respective seats but were getting bored to death, and their juniors not being here, didn't help too much.
That's when Neha decided to lighten up the mood a little bit. "Guys, why are we sitting here and looking at each other's boring faces? I know we're gonna miss these pretty boring faces. But let's try something else... Please?" She pleaded everybody in the class.
Vishakha held her water sipper when Neha completed with the pleading session. And stood up with a wicked smirk. "I think I know what we can do." She said as she approached Neha.
Neha turned around and at an instant a splash of water came on her face. She opened her eyes and looked at Vishakha horrified. The whole class was stunned, Kriya looked at her two best friends with her eyes looking like saucers and her right hand on her mouth which was probably 'o' shaped by now. And Rey was just lost in the beauty sitting two benches across him. He gave a goofy smile and looked down.
Before anyone had acknowledged a water fight had erupted. Everybody holding their sippers, while some were busy splashing water at each other, some were running towards the water fountain to refill their bottles. The whole classroom, actually the whole hall was a wet mess. And Kriya, Reyaansh and some others just tried to escape from the epic water war.
Neha approached Kriya and handed her a water bottle. "Kriya, come on man! Play!" She ordered her. And Kriya denied the offer. Neha gave a sly look and tried splashing the water on Kriya. Kriya ducked at the right moment and the water flew, yes flew, right over at the person standing behind her.
Kriya turned around, hoping for an already wet person to be standing behind her. Just as she turned around, she saw Reyaansh looking at her, his t-shirt dripping wet. He smirked and looked at her with revenge filled eyes. Kriya noticed and ran for her life when she didn't find Neha behind her.
Rey grabbed somebody's water bottle and ran behind her. Their laughter filled the corridors as they continued the tom and jerry game. Every moment Rey came close to catching her, she speeded more and squealed. Continuing, they shortly ended up in a classroom.
With Rey jumping over the benches to catch her and Kriya successfully escaping every single time. Kriya started panting hard and slowed down for a moment. As soon as Rey noticed this he immediately cornered her to a wall and raised the bottle at her. Kriya closed her eyes, waiting for the ice cold liquid to fall on her but it never came.
She opened her right eye and looked at Rey. He was too lost in her cute avatar to remember the reason they had ended up in this huge empty classroom. They kept looking at each other for eternity, none of them able to divert their eyes from the others, none of them acknowledging that the distance distance between them is almost non existent. A small almost negligible smile made way to their face as they were busy analysing each other's eyes.
A flash interrupted them and they were distracted as soon as that happened. Sharon, a classmate of theirs held a professional camera in her hand, waving it above her head as she ignoring their pleads of returning the camera to them.
Kriya smiled as she reminisced the small incident. How can she ever forget the teasing Reyaansh and she faced once the whole class had seen the picture. She flipped the pages of the album book and realised that every picture had a separate and unique memory attached to it. As she kept up with the flipping, she came across a picture of Reyaansh and her at their farewell.
She remembers the whole male population of the class gawking at her when she entered the grand hall of her school. She had worn a black chiffon saree which made her look quite appropriate for the event as her mother had announced earlier that evening.
The only thing which bothered her was the deep cut back of the saree which revealed almost the whole of Kriya's creamy back.
Kriya suddenly felt conscious when she noticed Reyaansh lost in her. She blushed and turned around.
After good ten seconds, she felt somebody behind her, she was about turn around when the guy whispered, "It's me". Her teenage heart fluttered at the proximity she shared right now with her crush. She did not turn around, just stood there and smiled at her classmate who was giving a speech of their journey in the school. Rey stood next to her and kept looking at her.
Her cheeks flared as she realised that he didn't seem to move his gaze from her and she looked down as her hair cascaded over her face, blocking his view.
He frowned and turned his attention to the stage, they didn't know when the speech ended but, their juniors were, now, performing for them. It was a slow number and there were camera flashes all around. They see some of them making their way down from the stage and making way to their honorable seniors.
When a girl reached the two of them, she asked them to dance and Kriya noticed all others doing the same. Hesitant, she placed her hand on his chest and he placed his on her waist. They moved to the melodious music, their eyes baring into the others, nervousness taking over tem. This was the first time, they were so close to each other, and imthey felt this giddy feeling take over them and they couldn't resist it.
Kriya sighed as she remembered the tornado which whirled in her stomach that moment. The picture was of them looking at each other while dancing. And by far it has been the best picture she came across in this album.
She smiled as she remembered what had happened after the whole farewell party.
Kriya and Rey walked on the quiet lane, never daring to look at each other.
As the night proceeded, she felt colder minute by minute. She rubbed her forearms, yearning for some heat, and the thin chiffon saree wasn't helping either. He noticed her unease and realised that the cold weather was effecting her. He at an instant took out his jacket and placed it on her shoulders. She looked at him, taken aback by his gesture but did not utter a word.
They resumed walking and reached her doorstep in mere 10 minutes. She looked at him and smiled, as he gladly returned the gesture.
"Thank you." She whispered and steeped forward to go in her house.
"Wait.. Kriya!" He shrieked as he held her forearm. She stopped, her eyes wide, she turned and looked at his hand. He slowly removed his hand and stepped forward. She took a step back and asked. "Do you want something?"
"Uh... Umm.. Kriya. I.. Uh..." He started stammering, Kriya couldn't understand a word.
"I don't know... Umm.. If.. You." He continued. Kriya chuckled a bit.
"Rey, are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, umm... God I don't know how to do this." Kriya gave him a weird look.
"Look, Kriya I, I.. I like you... A lot." He breathed.
Kriya stood shocked. She looked at him as if she had seen a monster. After a while she finally spoke.
"Rey, I..."
"Kriya! Kriya!" She heard the voice of her husband. She immediately stood up and walked out of their bedroom. As she saw him, he gave her a goofy grin.
He sprinted towards her and hugged her, tight. "I missed you so much." He whispered in her ear and kissed her earlobe. She placed her arms on his back, hugging back even tighter and whispered back.
"I missed you too, Rey."
