5 Annoying Things Autowalas Do Which Prove That They Are Thugs On Three Wheels

In a perfect world, autowalas would be cordial, take you to your destination on GPS-enabled vehicles and charge you by the meter. But this is not a perfect world; this is a dog-eat-dog country where you have to battle for survival on the streets every day. And these auto drivers do not make it any easier. We list out 15 annoying habits of autowalas that prove that they actually are thugs on three wheels!

1. "Sir, 10 rupees extra de dena"

This is the most common thing you will hear from auto drivers. And don't think they are just saying it. Oh no, they have their 101 reasons as to why you should shell out that extra 10 rupees.

2. "Waha se sawari nahi milta wapas aane ko"

Besides the fact that it is not your problem, this reason is also the most bullshit one ever. It is not like you are taking them to the Mars surface that they will not get passengers there!

3. "Teen jan ho? Extra de dena"

Hold on! If there is one unwritten auto-rickshaw rule we both know is that you ONLY charge extra if there are more than 3 people in the auto. So what is this all about?

4. "Zyada saamaan hai? Extra dena padega"

God forbid you are carrying two or three bags with you - this will just give autowalas another reason to charge extra! It does not matter that the combined weight is much lesser than if two people were travelling.

5. "Aagey bahut traffic hai. Extra de dena."

Excuse #32641. So basically for you to be charged as per normal fare, you have to use your mind control powers to set the traffic in order. Annoyingly enough, if you do agree to pay extra and get on the auto - you will find that the streets are totally clear.

6. "Baarish hai maidam, extra dena padega."

Rainy days turn them into bigger monsters - because everyone is clamoring for an auto. They know that it is you who need them, and not the other way round. So if you're not going to cough up, tough luck! They've already moved on to the next drenched person waving at them.

7. "Meter kharab hai"

It is like 3 out of every 5 autos you take will give this reason. It is a different story altogether in places like Noida and Gurgaon where they do not even have meters. Either way, if you do not know the distance to your destination, guess who is getting taken for a ride? Like, literally.

8. "Meter se nahin jaana, kitna dogey bolo"

And then you will meet some great souls who have perfectly functional meters on their autos, but they still refuse to use it and would rather haggle or charge some exorbitant fare to take you to your destination.

9. "Sir waha se U-turn lena padega, yaha utar jao"

When it comes to auto rides, it is the driver's convenience before yours - always remember that. They will make you get off on the wrong side, or yards away from your destination because it is more convenient for them. The gall!

10. "Doubling kar lo... kam paise dena"

The only time they will ask you for what seems like a fair fare is when they already have another passenger who is going in the same direction. If I wanted to share an auto, buddy, would I not have taken one of them share autos instead?

11. No Reply, No Response, No Expression

You might wave like a maniac at some of these moving autos, and god knows where these auto drivers are headed but they will not stop for you. This is fine - but they will not even acknowledge your frantic gestures, these poker-faced gits.

12. Free Music - Loud And Irritating

Firstly, their music taste is always a little too jarring for the usual passenger. And secondly, they do not seem to realize that the sound boxes are located right behind us, and could possibly damage our hearing, temper and sanity - and not necessarily in that order.

13. Rigged Meters

Some autowalas are just so sly, rigging their meters and fleecing unassuming passengers. It is the regular riders who travel the same distance everyday who can tell the difference, and they and only they can call the autowala's bluff.

14. Taking Advantage Of The New-In-Towns

If you are new in the city, and the autowala decides to quote the fare - brother, get ready to be screwed left, right and centre.

15. To Them, Their Vehicles Are Racing Cars

Every once in a while you will come across an auto which will make you feel like you are being driven across town by Lewis Hamilton - and your adrenaline levels shoot through the roof. Pat yourself in the back once you make it to your destination safe.

so true...its the most cumbersome process to catch an auto... especially one who will take u by meter, not charge extra and not try to kill you on the roads
That is why i prefer other means of transport than an auto... i dont have the capacity to haggle with an auto wala on a daily basis...thankfully Delhi now has metro, and often u can get fixed price sharing basis autos for destinations close to metro station...

I don't have anything bad to say about Autowalas because I wouldn't want their life nor job so they already got it quite bad as it is.
Some of the owners of these Auto Wala companies keep the drivers in debt paying for their vehicle. Like slave labour.

Barely make enough to survive anyway let alone supporting families.

Their lives ain't easy and I wouldnt trade mine for theirs.

Honest.
