@Abray refugee status is not directly told. It is made to feel indirectly. Like Rajnath telling Dev's father's name now and then.
I mean they behave as if they respect you, but indirectly make you do what they want if you are weak. That is what is happening to Suchitra. She on most occasion is shut up by her husband's name and Dev respects his mother way too much

@atominis I also hope he doesnt end up like Yudi. He was weak first time. His silence allowed Nithya's family to go through hell. Now if he needs to win Durga/Nithya back then he has to win back that trust and it is going to be a long battle for him. I am fine with it as I dont want Durga to forgive Dev that easily. She has suffered, lost her parents, her sis denied justice and in mental hospital, from a normal live wire she has turned a hardcore woman hiding her feelings and the man she trusted blindly was not there for her. So let him prove his worth and his ability to stand by her before any reconciliation happens

But didn't Dev's dad leave any property in name of Suchitra and Dev? This is not like medieval times when one guy was in control of all money! They are not respected even for the share they have? They feel ingratiated to other Goenkas despite their share?
How do Sakshi and Rajnath keep calling Shaurya the waaris and ignore Dev's existence? Have they manipulated to this extent to keep Dev on fringes?

@Bold: There's a land owned by Dev's dad. Both Sakshi and Raj wanted that land for the cancer project but Suchitra wants to build an orphanage on that land. Only for this land both S & R almost begged (indirectly) Suchitra. So I guess Dev's dad left some property for his son & wife, maybe some are hidden by Sakshi & Raj.

@atominis from what it looks to me as of now ( may be things will be clear as the past comes out more) is that whatever property Dev's dad had is used by Rajanth or Sakshi in one way or other. I dont know whose name Goenka mansion is. Was it for Dev or Rajnath has managed to manipulate it.
Dev is invisible and Rajnath and Sakshi prefer him to be invisible as they want all glory for her son Shaurya so that they are in a position to proclaim him as the successor for Rajnath.
It is very evident Dev has been a lonely child. Deprived of his father's love at a young age he has all the trappings of a single child attached to mom. The fact that his friendship circle was outside the Goenka clan shows he found love, acceptance and security somewhere else.
There is a clash in him and he is unable to manage that clash. The name of his family and his true call are on 2 sides and everytime he tries to answer his true call his family succeed in pulling him back. I mean Dev as a person yearns simple life and he also has only simply dreams like Nithya. But a mantle is placed on him that he has to do x and y things for his father.
He has a long way to go before he can come out of his trappings, his emotional bindings and go for what is rightfully his.

Agree with you somewhat.

I am curious when Dev's father died. Did he die before Dev's birth or when Dev was a toddler? If Dev has had no experience with his father then I can accept his bowing to other Goenkas or blindly obeying his mother and looking for friendship outside.

Suchitra is too simple. Shocked how Shaurya manipulates her. 😲

Indian makers are quite disappointing as far as characterization is concerned. They use the narrow technique to establish their ways of making things look different.
For example, lets take the example of Chulbul Pandey, he is a hero ? Yes, the movie assures you he is nothing less than robin-hood himself. Now ,in case they make a character like him in a soap serial, he will either be the honest of all officers in the town or eventually redeem himself with hte help of his heoine who herself is nothing less than mother India herself. For a reason, they cannot potray the exact picture. I dont understand why limit these characters ? Why an eternal love story is so important ? why can't they just show the way it is ?

In one show which cannot be named, one so called adarshwadi nani got extremely annoyed when her would be bahu danced on the number of character dheela. A few episodes later, she was founf dancing to the tunes of Oolla laa herself for this time the would be bahu was a desi girl.😆 They will go to the extent of showing the village girls with their extra larg pony tails and pale Salwar kurta and a pair of either mojdi or may be chappals have extreme levels of sanskar. On the other hand, one who is living in a city like Mumbai doesn't know anything about their own culture. Fora simple reason that they wear jeans and shorts, they have attained all the abilities of a devil.

This theory is applied to the characters depending upon which role they are playing. A vamp would uselessly try to trouble the heroine although that makes no sense at all and the heroine will do everything to save the reputation of that family which doesn't belong to her at all. on the top of this she will get humiliated for interfering into the family matters but she will argue and makers will have some background music like... dhadam.. dhadamm dhadam... and make you believe poking nose in private matters is the real sanskar of India.

Here, Sakshi was suppose to be younger to Suchitra but yet accomplished, stylish, cunning, smart , manipulative and not to forget powerful. So, instead of brushing that character, they bring forward a weak, kind- hearted, nice, docile jethani and a son who is just a male version of his mother. Her good nature is sharp contrast to that of the Evil Goenkas. This is the most effective way . It saves time and money. So, Indian shows have only two aspects : Good and Bad and nothing exists between them.

If we have to consider logic, I will go with atominis and wait until we know what happened to Dev's father. if his father died before or just after his birth,w e can understand his mother's dependency on Rajnath and his family. Its not only sound financial condition but also emotional security one requires to live a happy life.
