A doubt about TAM METER

Hi,

I have a small doubt. Can anyone please clear it? WHAT IS A TAM METER?

Firstly how does it look like? Is it same as the digital box that we have? Is it provided to all cities. I live in Bangalore , Karnataka and I don't know whether I contribute to TRP'S?

it is a small box attached to the set
as far as i know TAM meters are only in the metropolitan cities
