What is Sur?? According to some of the definition in the Glossary of Indian Music, Sur is called a musical note or Maidan..
Now coming to the topic - Does Today's Music have Sur??
In today's bollywood industry, we have been hearing lot of beat songs and fast numbers and very less melody.. But does melodious singing alone mean being in Sur?? If so, then the melody is definitely missing in the music industry.. Now its all about fast beats and remixes where the MDs more concentrate on presenting the beats and rhythms..
Hardly we can find one song in one music album that has the melody.. Where has those romantic numbers gone by which we used to get the pleasure of listening to music?? Now MDs are concentrating on the Disco numbers for the disco tekhs which sells more than soft melodious songs..
I can give an example here.. My one year old cousin loves listening to Wheres the party tonight and she starts dancing when she listens to these disco numbers and I switch over to any romantic song after hearing to these drum beats, she starts crying.. Then all I have to do is to make her convince and stop the music and listen to it in my headphone 😆 These drum beats are the one that sells, so MDs are also concentrating on these fast or item songs.
For how many days the people can only listen to these disco numbers?? Are they pleasant to our ears?? For few of us, who love melody we are longing to hear some melodious songs.. With time passing by and drum beats taking its precedence than the melodious songs, Will this longing last for ever??
