Part- 15 (A)
A plate clattered soundly, the sound vibrating in the vast hall feeling similar to a blast.
"Chotey" Anjali cried running towards her brother.
Arnav just had entered Shantivan behind Khushi and it was Anjali who had first seen them.
The first thing that caught her eyes was his wounded arm, anyways it was impossible to miss the black sling holding his arm in place.
"How did this happen, Chotey? Where are you coming from? You weren't at home last night? And this wound? How? Answer me Chotey."
Anjali unleashed her barrage of question, while inspecting him thoroughly and franticly for anymore cuts or bruises.
"Di relax" Arnav tried to soothe his hyperventilating sister.
By the time rest of the family members had also arrived, hearing the clattering sound and also Anjali's loud voice.
**
Khushi was watching the whole scene from afar, little amused. As soon as she had seen Anjali rushing to them, she had taken a few steps back, not wishing to step in the siblings PDA.
She saw Akash, Shyam and Devyanji all rushing together to Arnav and fussing over his state. Not once giving him a chance to word out what had really happened. She sighed shaking her head.
Are these people always so... err... dramatic?
They didn't even let him move from his place and she was sure if Arnav stood there for few more minutes his weak limbs would sure give up.
Have their common senses gone for a vacation?
She thought to intervene, but then thought against it, whatever, this is his family, they will take care of him anyway. So she decided to leave.
But a shrill voice forced her to stop on her track.
**
"You... Miss Gupta." Anjali called out menacingly.
Not liking the tone a bit, Khushi turned frowning.
"Tell me how did this happen? How did my brother get hurt? When you know that his life is in danger, how could you be stupid enough to take him out in middle of night?"
With every question flying in her way Khsuhi's eyes harden, taking a dangerous gleam, and if Anjali wouldn't' have been so blind in her agitated state, she would have shuddered seeing the flashing eyes and would have been intelligent enough to shut her mouth.
And it seemed without her everybody present in the room had sensed the danger as their eyes mirrored the same worry.
Arnav was most tensed among all. He knew the accusations Anjali was hurling were baseless and he was the one at fault. So he opened his mouth to make his sister see sense only to get interrupted by her, as she held her hand out to stop his brother and continued without thinking, "Bas Chotey, you are not going to take her side, when she is at fault."
She pointed her fingers at Khushi "If she has been doing her duty properly then you wouldn't have been hurt again. She isn't worth still we bear with her because of Shashi uncle's reference; now see what has happened because of her. You are hurt. She turned her moist eyes to Arnav before going back to Khushi again, failing Arnav once again in her attempt, How could you let this happen to him? How could you leave him unprotected? Did you ever take your job seriously?"
Anjali's accusations were all groundless, but all Khushi could hear the voices of past uttering kind of same words, same accusations...
You weren't worth still we accepted you because of him and you let him die. It is not them but you killed him. How could you do this to him? How could you leave him unprotected? Did you ever love him?
The glint in her eyes was still there, but this time it was pure anguish, which Arnav could see and recognized instantly and the rawness of the angst in her eyes left him speechless.
"ENOUGH" Khushi's voice boomed in the hall, not a word more, not a word, or I will forget that you are Mr. Raizada's sister" her finger pointed on Anjali's face daring her to open her mouth again.
Anjali opened her mouth but then one warning glare form Khushi made her shut.
**
Both women turned their eyes to the person, for whom this whole mess had started in the first place.
But Arnav's eyes stayed lock with Khushi's anguished almond pair, apologizing silently. Not for once he turned to his sister, who by now had started with the water work.
Khushi closed her eyes gulping down the bubbling rage. She turned on her heels only to come face to face with Shashi, who had grim look on his ever jolly face, which stated clearly that he had heard it all.
She averted her eyes form him before pulling her shades out of her pocket and hiding her eyes behind them, least her dad could see the raw pain in them. But it was too late and Shashi didn't need to look in her eyes to know her feelings, he could sense it in her aura.
"Sir" she acknowledged his presence before leaving the place like a hurricane.
And that was when all the others present there saw him standing there.
Feeling embarrassed Devyani was about to open her mouth to say something to welcome him, but leaving them all astonished he just muttered an inaudible excuse me' before going behind Khushi.
Nothing is more important than his daughter at this moment.
**
He reached just on time to see Khushi about accelerate her jeep.
"Khushi" he called out to stop her and she did stop at once.
Ascending down the jeep she came to stand before him saluting him like any other officer on duty would do, but she also knew that right now standing before her was not the Police Com Gupta but her dad.
Shshsi smiled sadly seeing her acting strong and stiff. He slowly removed her shades to reveal her blood shot eyes and then without any warning took her in a bear hug.
Khsuhi didn't protest, she never did. Because this was what soothed her always, her father's embrace. She rested her head above his heart and held him tight.
Shashi knew his strong daughter didn't know how to release her pain like others so he always did what he could do best to help her, soothe her. Provide the warmth of his love.
After a few moments when Khushi broke the embrace, he asked sweetly, "you're okay?"
Khushi smiled nodding assuring him. He patted her head lovingly, before she bid her bye and left.
He stood there until her jeep went out of his vision.
**
Shashi turned only to meet Arnav's narrowed gaze, which held many question and he doubted if he could escape them.
Oh Boy!
