| | Trying times: Nikki Aneja Walia in Astitva – Ek Prem Kahani | | Dr Simran (Nikki Aneja Walia) of Astitva — Ek Prem Kahaani went through various trials and tribulations in her life and relationships, only to emerge stronger. But the tragedy she confronts now leaves her totally shattered. In a major highpoint in the Zee daily, main protagonist Dr Simran loses her eyesight.
The world around her comes crashing down because she also loses adopted daughter Aastha (Yuvika Chaudhary) in the tragedy.
Though producer-director Ajai Sinha is reluctant to divulge the details of this dark twist to the saga, he confirms that Dr Simran will be blinded. "It is the most telling time in Simran's life. It's not only the loss of her daughter, Yuvika that she mourns, but also her condition."
October test
It is learnt that Simran's nightmare unfolds in the serial from October, when she will shown to be a victim of a terrorist attack. "A bomb blast rips her life apart," adds Sinha. "This is the beginning of a new chapter in Simran's life. But as usual, she will come out of it as she always has." Cinestar for cinema
Aastha's death in the show is as a result of actress Chaudhary's decision to quit the serial for a career in films. The winner of Zee's Cinestar Ki Khoj contest, Chaudhary entered the show post the generation-leap in Astitva, in March this year.
Astitva, which completes three years in November, will have Simran back in the scheme of things. "That's another twist in the saga," says Sinha, who earlier made Justajoo and Hasratein for Zee. Will a corneal transplant be the answer to Simran's woes? "Maybe," says Sinha, "it is a daily track and many things can happen."

Ajai Sinha's film projects
He will direct a film to be produced by Prakash Jha Productions. "It is a romantic comedy. We are working on the script right now, after which we will begin casting," confirms Sinha.
He adds that it will be a crossover film, with two foreigners in the cast. "I was in London recently, exploring the possibilities there for the project." The film, as yet untitled, is expected to roll early next year.
Sinha made his debut as director with the youth-centric film, Stop! (starring Gauri Karnik, Ishitaa Arun, Tejaswani Kolhapure and Rocky Bhatia) last year. He has also directed another youth flick, Bachelors (with Sharman Joshi, Riya and Raima Sen), which is lying forgotten in the cans. | |
