MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan says his gut feeling and not industry demands guide his choice of films to act in, a report said yesterday. "My choice of films is governed by my heart and instinct," he told movie news weekly Screen. "I'm not governed by what the market demands." One of Bollywood's top actors, Khan is known to be finicky about the movies he acts in. He said he loved the script of his latest movie, Taare Zameen Par, about a child's strong bond with his teacher. The film is scheduled for a November release.
"When I'm reading a script, I react to it as a member of the audience," Khan said according to the paper. "If it excites me, I want to do it." Khan's movie Rang De Basanti about a group of young men who discover a dormant sense of patriotism, was one of last year's biggest hits. His 2001 hit film Lagaan about poor Indian villagers who escape paying a repressive land tax by beating their British colonial rulers at a game of cricket, was nominated for an Oscar in the foreign film category. Khan said his role in any film was not as important as the plot. "To me, filmmaking is about the film, not the individual," he was quoted as saying. "As an actor I believe my job is to get the script right."
