hello friends,
The serial Baa Bahu Aur Baby won 6 awards at the Star Pariwar awards last Friday. Benaf Dadachandji, who plays "Baby" bagged two awards for the show in the category of Favourite Beti and favourite Behen.
Here the actress tells us about herself and what Baa, Bahu Aur Baby means to her.
How were you approached for the role as Baby?
At the time I was doing the serial Hello Dollie for STAR Plus. There were auditions going on for my character of Baby and Shailaja, the Creative Head of STAR Plus, suggested my name to J.D. Majetia and now I am the Baby.
Is it difficult for you to play the role of a girl with Polio?
There is nothing awkward about playing a handicapped role. I feel sympathetic to those who are really affected by this disease. As for me, I'm enjoying my character and I have no regrets.
How is Benaf different from Baby?
Baby and I are opposite! My reel character is very rebellious and she is the ladli of the Thakker family. Every member in the family pampers Baby a lot, but Benaf is not at all pampered by her parents! I have only one brother and one sister unlike baby who has 6 brothers! While Baby always stays at home I'm completely different. I like to go out and have fun with my friends. I love shopping. Also in real life my parents are searching for a groom for me.
When will you get married on the serial?
Right now there is no marriage on the cards in the serial. That track is yet come so let's see when it happens.
How is your rapport with Deven Bhojani (Gattu)?
It's great. The audience can see that our onscreen chemistry is very funny. Off-screen too, he is very good. He is a wonderful actor and human being.
What are your experiences with the public since playing Baby?
Whenever I go out shopping the ladies come and say "Aap Baby hain naa, Kya aapko asal main polio hain". Their looks are very sympathetic. I feel great that my character is very popular. For me, Baby is my second name.
How do you manage your studies and shooting?
I am doing a correspondence course in B.com. I shoot for 19 days and I get 10 days off in the month, so I catch up with my studies then. When I have exams I bring my books to the sets and study there.
Who would you thank for your awards?
Thanks go to all my co-actors who have worked with me and taught me Hindi. I'm a Parsi, so early on it was difficult for me to speak Hindi, but now I can speak it fluently. I also want to give special thanks to my producers Mr. J.D. Majetia and Aatish Kapadia.
What is your dream role?
I want to do different roles and not the typical Saas-bahu sagas.
Any offer's after the success of Baa Bahu...?
I enjoy doing only one serial at a time as I want to be recognized as one character and not many. Also I feel that I am too young to work, I'm only 19 years old. So, for now it's only Baa, Bahu Aur Baby.
Benaf Dadachandji is the only actor in her family and has been acting since her childhood. Her first film was Halo in 1997, for which she won a National Award. In 2002 she did a TV serial called Nazrana and in 2005 she had a role in the serial Hello Dollie on STAR Plus.
In Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Benaf plays the seventh and youngest child, who suffers from polio. Her character is strong-willed and rebellious. Because of her fearless attitude she is known as the "junior jogmaiya" by her siblings. Baby is the only one who has the guts to stand up to Baa and she secretly loves Anish.
