I'll be honest I just saw two Rajnikanth movies. One of it was robot and the other one I don't remember. I don't like him and I think he's overrated but let's get this fact straight, he's super se bada superstar.

Rajini rules TN for 20+ years and has the charisma of a super star . He will rule Kollywood till his death .

If you're talking in terms of fandom then yes, if you're talking in terms of better work in the industry then no. I don't expect any of the Khans to have the kind of fan following Rajni enjoys at 63 or more. Personally, I don't get the hype around his movies. I have seen many of his movies, he isn't versatile.

He is not an actor. Not versatile at all. How can anyone name him in same breath as Amitabh?

He is like a cartoon or comic book hero who still has crazy fans that too in ONE region. Amitabh and Khans cater to larger segment of audience than Rajinikanth.

Rajini's only and truly commendable achievement is that he is still getting to play hero and giving hits even at this age. No Bollywood star will be given that chance no matter how much technology and make up are used to make him look young.

He's been deified by his fans and no wonder he still runs as lead hero because deities don't age!

I think he is hyped too much and since 2007 they are trying hard to project him as a national phenomenon which he is clearly not. Audience only knows his flop films from Bollywood, as sidekick of Amitabh and Sunny Deol in Andha Kanoon, Hum, Chaalbaaz and 3 dubbed films - Chandramukhi, Sivaji and Robot. Rest he's just a subject of Chuck Norris style jokes.

People talk of his popularity in Japan. But then what is unique in that? How does it give him edge over other stars? 3 Idiots and ETT did extremely well in Japan. SRK's widly popular in Europe especially Germany. Salman's popular in Middle east.Aamir's popular in Indonesia and China (since 3I). Amitabh was extremely popular in Egypt and UK in past when he was in his prime. Bollywood stars have had their own popularity.

So how's he bigger than anyone (except being accepted as lead even at 60)?

It is just a myth that he still rules the south box office. He is still respected but the people has moved on to younger stars and the current rulers are Ajith and Vijay..

To understand this we need to understand the cultural differences in the North and South. There are many factors at play here.

In short, Rajini will always be a super star like Spider man or Bat man. He has the highest number of fans across the world and is the top earning actor. He has not done any endorsements till date and still makes 40-50 crore per movie.

The reason he is loved is apart from his onscreen style...his offscreen image. In South, humility and simplicity is considered star material. Rajini Sir is the epitome of both. He does not use a wig or dons tonnes of make up and wears Armani suits like his BW contemporaries. I have personally seen him catch a nap on the floor in a busy shooting spot using his towel as a bed sheet. Can we imagine any one do that? Not that this is the only correct way or this is the best thing to do - but this quality is what attracts South Indians to him in hoardes.

He is a unmatchable star and he has fans all across the world. Japanese whistle and throw yens at the screens when he comes on screens, Polish love his style and South Indians love everything about him.

We don't care if he is national star or not and we are trying to shove him down anyone's throats in North India. What will he do if SRK and KJ fan boy him? He is as humble as ever.

Take it or leave it. Ponder about it endlessly...but he is the biggest star for atleast 10 million people all over the world.

I had no clue who rajnikanth is untill Robot happened and there was all this hype on Indian channels about Aishwariya doing a movie with superstar Rajnikanth. I was like who?

Since then I have heard a lot of people on here talk about his humility though. Seems like a nice person.
