CHAPTER-3.

I succumb myself to the mystery that engulfs me-

I look for light in utter darkness..

I yearn to be the one to catch a glimpse of the sunshine-

I swim looking for the edge in an abyss of pain that seems endless..

Veera blinked her eyes open,and frowned,unable to recognise the strange surrounding around her..

Where was she?!!

She blinked in confusion yet again..

It looked like a strange..It looked like an old cottage!!!

And she could clearly see some earthen ware standing at a lonesome corner,an old rickety stool nearby,and was that some guy she could see sitting on it,whose head she could see lying beside her on the bed?!!

Oh God!!!What had happened to her?!!Where was she ?!!And who the hell was this guy?!!

Frantically she looked around looking for a way out of the strange situation.Answers she could search for later on but now she needed reprieve and escape from this!!!

She stealthily took a shaky step out of the bed,when she felt her head spinning..

And before she could know what was happening,she had lost her consciousness,and was falling down onto the hard ground..

"VEERA!"

Baldev caught her limp body in his arms just before she hit the hard ground.

Quickly he laid her down on the bed,and fixed her pillow..

Lovingly yet with pain filled eyes, he stared down at her unconscious face..And with shaky fingers he removed some lose strands of hair off her creamy,now pale cheeks.

He had not been able to believe when he noticed someone running in the forest in such a dark stormy night,,And then when he saw her hit her head on a rock,he was concerned,but when he realised it was HIS Veera,he nearly forgot to breathe..

The rest were like lightning to him..He did not know what had happened after that..

He just remembered carrying her to his cottage,seeing to her wound,and calling a nearby widow to help him tend to her..

And the entire night he could not leave her side,even after knowing he had to do so.

Maybe it was time he did leave her side..Since it seemed like she was about to gain her consciousness again..He did not want to disgust her,by showing her his face again..

A painful squeeze in his heart made him realise how that thought hurt him badly..

But taking in a shaky breath,he clenched his hands into tight fists to keep himself from touching her,and started walking out the door of his tiny cottage..

Veera again regained her consciousness and frowned as she looked at the doorway..

A broad shouldered man was walking away..

It was him,the one he had seen beside her,she realised..

A strange fluttering occurred in her heart as she watched the lone figure walk away..

She frowned deeper as she felt a strange urgent need to call him back.But of course she did not.It was too improper and strange a thing to do for her-who always abided by the rules of proper things..

It was afternoon and Veera was safely back at her home,a long time ago now..But she was strangely feeling restless after a long time..

The woman who had left her home,had informed her that the man she had gotten scared of initially was actually her saviour.

And how he had stayed by her bed all night to ensure she was alright,and also that he was a newcomer to the village.

Veera also knew that no one knew the name of the man,and he seldom talked with anyone,and was a complete loner.

And the woman was also there the whole night at the man's insistence,that she,Veera,would be scared if she found herself with a man alone on waking up.

After reassuring a worried Rata,Chaiji ad Ranvi,Veera now sat in her room lost in thoughts of the strange man.

Why did she feel this strange connection with him..?

THUD!

THUD!

THUD!

Veera tealthily walked towards the source of the noise in the jungle.

She had not been able to stay away ..She had to come and take a look at the strange man again..The strange man who lived alone almost in the jungle..

THUD!

That sounded like..

She gulped when she walked to the edge of the clearing,where the sound was coming from.

A heavily sweating man,completely shirtless,was chopping woods..She gulped again.

THUD!

THUD!

His perfect muscles and sinews moved beautifully with each movement of the axe..His tanned skin,glistening in the fading evening lights..

She blinked,as she suddenly felt hot all over..

She had never seen such a beautiful specimen of man in her entire misbegotten life..

And she strangely felt she had seen him before..

THUD!

Veera had come to thank him,and now suddenly she felt the cat had got her tongue..

She took a step back,and stepped on a dried branch..

SNAP!

Instantly the man,who had his back turned to her,stopped in mid strike.He slowly put the axe down.

And as Veera watched like a paralysed person,he slowly turned to face her..

His face was covered in the black turban he was wearing round his mouth and nose,to keep wood dust from getting into them..But his dark eyes pierced her,and held her captive..

Veera could not move even if she wanted to,when the sweaty half naked man,with only his dark eyes visible in his face,started walking towards her..
