CHAPTER-2.

Pain and sorrow etched in every cell-

The tortured cry of the soul..

What does it take to destroy your inner being-

That you are not what you were at all..

It was true when people said,that pain changed people..

It had happened to him Baldev Singh..

Baldev Singh who was now less than a shadow of what he had been earlier.

The hard work,the strenuous hard work was like a balm on his pain..It helped him forget everything..

He had passed six long months travelling around different villages and cities,doing different jobs each time..

The reality was truly harsh and he had learned it the hard way..

It seemed like a long time ago that he had been challenged by Veera to earn hundred rupees..Now he had experiences of earning more than thousands of rupees..All of course done the hard way..

But today as he travelled in the bus towards his birthplace Pritampura,he felt pain squeeze at his heart and engulf his senses as he thought about it.Today he could not go to Veera and tell her,that she was wrong about him,and that he could indeed earn his living.

He did not have the heart to anymore.

He had lost the zeal and drive a long time back now..

His heart did not beat for Veera anymore..He was no more desperate or aching for her..

LIAR!!!A voice from inside his head screamed out,but he completely ignored it.

Baldev Singh had moved on in his life,and he had to move a long way ahead too.

Veera or her likes were not in his calculations anymore..

He was going to Pritampura,but not to relive his past,but to forget it for good.And to prove to himself and everyone that he was not that Baldev Singh anymore..He had finally grown up and stopped running after the Mirage..

It was late night and Veera was riding home on her brother's motor cycle..

The warm night wind blew at her open locks outside her helmet,as she rode on..Lost in thought..

She had finally managed to fix the paper works for the Krishi Vidyalay..The small problem that had arose while doing the construction,and had forced them to stop the work,was finally solved..

Thunder boomed on the sky,and made her ride faster..

She had to reach home,before this unseasonal thunder storm started..After all her Veerji and everyone would be worried..

She was just taking a turning when a car came out of nowhere and nearly hit her..

Veera managed to control her bike and screeched to a halt before she was almost thrown out of the road.

Angrily she got out of the motor cycle,to face the driver..

Her eyes widened as she realised the car was full of a bunch of guys who looked very much drunk,and by the ugly looks they were sending her way,also lecherous.

"Arey dekh yaar kinni sundaar kudi hai!Chaal isse saath mai leke maza karte hai..!

[Wow see friends what a beautiful girl!Let's take her and have fun..!]"A guy snickered.

The guy started walking towards Veera,and a couple of his friends followed with similar lecherous expressions..

Thunder boomed louder,and Veera realised this was not the right time to try fighting these hooligans.

So quickly she got on her bike,and kicked it into motion again.

But the guys were not the sort to give up easily,she realised to her utter horror and disgust.

With loud curses,she heard them getting in the car,and the car was soon following her bike.

The sky split open right then drowning her in torrential rain,as she tried to ride as fast as possible as the car with the drunk guys were close at her tail..

Veera felt a chill of terror take over her heart for the first time in a very long time..

It had not been a very good idea after all to travel alone like this,so late at night she realised too late.

She felt the tires of the motor cycle slip in the too slippery wet road,as she could barely see ahead..

And suddenly before she knew it,she had lost complete control of the motor cycle and had fallen halfway into the woods by the road,as the motor cycle skidded to the other way..

The helmet had fallen off her head during the fall,and she felt her head bump hard into a rock..

The world started blurring in front of her eyes,as thunder boomed on loud,and heavy rain went on falling..

Faintly she could hear the car screech to a halt..Door closing..

And then a tall shadow loomed above her limp body..Fear clawed at her insides just before darkness took over her entire being,and she was lost to the world..

Her last horrible memory being the menacing dark shadow coming closer to her..
