Ishita's mental conversations

Conversations between Raman and Ishita

Narration

That night after the party was over and everyone was peacefully winding down and getting ready for bed.

What does that Ravan Kumar think of himself? He can do anything he likes? He got that Shagun and then got me to dance. Fine he redeemed himself, but how can he forget that Ruhi was watching all this. No matter what, Shagun is Ruhi's biological mother and Ruhi shouldn't be witnessing the mess her parents have left in the past.

What's the point in bringing it all up again and again, occasion after occasion? There needs to be a limit.

Ishita was in deep thought while Raman entered the room after freshening up.

"Kya hua, aaj sohna nahi hai?"

She didn't respond.

"Oh Madrasan?"

Still, no reply.

She seemed worried. He tapped her on her shoulder and gave her his famous kadus look with eyes questioning her as to what was her problem.

"Aap ko aisa nahi karna chahiye tha"

"Madrasan ka lecture ho gaya shuru" he murmured away.

"Look Raman, Ruhi is growing up she needs to have a good image of you and her family members. She already dislikes Shagun, so further insulting Shagun won't affect Shagun's image but it will change the way she looks at you!

We are her parents we need to be people she can look up to. Whatever problems we have with Shagun, it can be dealt with when Ruhi isn't around."

"Ruhi needs to know what kind of a woman her biological mother is. Stay out of this. This is between me and Shagun"

"No. It may be between you and Shagun... but everyone else is being affected too. The family, Ruhi... and me as well."

As she ended the sentence, the mood lightened up. And they both were whisked away to their paradise

"Oh. Ho. Toh madrasan ko jalen ho rahi hai?"

"Nahi, mujhe koi jalen nahi hoti. Hmph" she walked away.

"Ruko!" Raman called out to her, and she looked back with an irritated look on her face.

"I'll be careful about not insulting people in front of Ruhi" at this, she smiled and walked off to check on Ruhi.

Good point. Raman shouldn't be seen behaving like this in the presence of Ruhi. It's not a good image for Raman and it's not a good teaching for her too. Raman should not constantly have to prove Sagun wrong and others about Sagun's nature; it's been done enough. He's done this many ways and for years after Shagun left and before Ishita came into his life. Now, he shouldnt even notice her.

"ISHIMAAA" Ruhi squealed while jumping on the bed as she saw her mom walk in.

"Ruhi beta, careful baba" she hastened into the room and held Ruhi in her arms and made her sit on her lap.

Caressing her with love, she asked "Aaj meri gudiya itni kush kyun hai?"

"Papa and you danced so well Ishima! You both looked so beautiful. And Shagun mama is always mean to you, today she also got what's good for her"

"No baba, you should never say that again. She is older than you, you must always respect her."

"But, I don't want her to take your place"

"She never will, my baccha. As long as you love me, she cannot take my place no?"

"Ruhi promise?"

"Yes, Ruhi promise!"

"Ok, now it's time to sleepu sleepu"

"I want to sleep with you and papa. Let's go!"

Ishita was going to stop her, but then she thought... "Well, if Ruhi sleeps with us tonight... it won't be so awkward between that Ravaan Kumar and me after all."

As Ruhi ran and entered her parents' room, Raman was busy processing what all had happened this night.

"Papa! Aaj main aap ke saath aur ishima ke saath sohoongi"

"Yeh yahan sohyegi toh main uss Madrasan se maafi kaise maanghunga?" he thought to himself.

By the time he could say anything Ishita had entered and already taken over.

"Ok Ruhi, abhi jaldi jaldi soh jao."

They were all tucked in bed. Raman to the left, Ishita to the right and Ruhi in the middle.

"Goodnight Papa. Good night Ishima"

"Good Night Ruhi" they said it in unison.

An hour later. Raman couldn't sleep, nor could Ishita. He thought about her hurt expression and she thought about his trust.

How can he be so sure that I'll stand by him through everything? I've never even mentioned anything about it.

Why was she so hurt? Could that madrasan have something for me? Wasn't this all for Ruhi's sake. Then why do I have such a bond with that jhasi ki rani?

While Ruhi was fast asleep, these two kept tossing and turning. Ishita tip-toed out into the balcony, letting the breeze touch her face and erase any mark of tension. With this breeze came a little drizzle, just the perfect weather to romance a little. But who would she romance with? That Ravaan? Little did she know that her Ravaan would turn into her Romeo!

Although Raman did notice her walk out, he just wanted to let her be... until he got really curious as to what had disturbed her sleep that he too, tip-toed his way into the balcony.

"Aaj sabki neend kharab karne ka iraada hai kya?"

"Kis ki neend kharab ki maine?"

"Meri! Itna shor kar ke room se gayi!'

"Huh? What rubbish. Itna sa be shor nahi kiya maine. Aur, mujhe aap se bhais nahi karni hai"

"Haan, toh mujhe kaunsi karni hai?"

"Accha yeh batao, tum itni tension mein kyun ho?"

"Main tension mein nahi hoon"

"Shakal pe dikh raha hai!"

"How do you know, I'd stand by you forever, through everything?"

"Because of your love for Ruhi and dedication towards her and her family, including me"

"Hmmm. Ok"

After a few moments of silent reflection, Raman went on asking his question...

"Why were you so hurt when I danced with shagun? Thought I betrayed you?"

She remained silent while gazing at him softly.

"I'm sorry Ishita, it wasn't the best thing to do. But it was important. She needs to know that she can't keep interfering in our lives."

"I understand" she whispered.

She was about to walk away, but he held her hand... "Let's have coffee?"

"Why, don't you want to sleep Mr. Ravaan Kumar?"

"After the coffee"

"Coffee has caffeine, and it's a stimulant... It won't let you sleep!"

"Apni doctorgiri yahan pe toh mat dikhao. Aur waise bhi, tum dentist ho... doctor nahi"

"Hmph. In that case you can go make it for yourself. I'm going to bed. Good night!"

With no one left to brew him his coffee, he decided to follow her to bed. And this is how the night after the party had passed. Everything was well and good in the Bhalla household 😊
