Musical moorings: Narayani Shastri
She's known as an actress, but not many are aware that Narayani Shastri's other passion is singing.

The actress recently recorded a song called Chal mere sang for an HIV/Aids awareness film called 68 Pages.

The film revolves around transsexual, transgender and HIV-related issues.

Directed by Shreedhar Ranganathan, the film will be screened at various film festivals across the country.

Says Narayani, "I've always loved singing, even though I haven't had training in it.

So when Sherrin (from Band of Boys) came to me with this song, I knew I couldn't have found a better music director."

Recalling her days when she acted with him in Koi Aapna Sa, she says, "I'm really comfortable with him and know that he has terrific music sense.

I remember we used to sit on the sets of Koi Aapna Sa and sing songs during breaks."

Causeful ditty

Describing the song as a melodious and soulful number, she says, "We did some riyaaz before the recording.

I was also kicked about this project because it is championing a cause. Apart from being an extremely humbable tune, it also has a message to deliver."

Sherrin Varghese, who has worked with Narayani for the song, says he always thought she was a good singer.

"The track has been produced by Xen@bob, which is a new group that we have formed."

Xen@bob consists of Sangeet Haldipur (of Aasma fame), Sheldon D'Silva and Gino Banks (son of ace drummer Louis Banks) and the Band of Boys members Sherrin Varghese, Karan Oberoi, Siddharth Haldipur and Chin2u Bhosle.
