Very nice post and lots of good replies!
Just wanted to put in my two cents..

I think the fact that protective instinct js natural to Rudra is very relevant when discussing why he was immediately drawn to Paro and why he never felt anything akin to love for Laila even after eight years if that is indeed so!

From the beginning Paro has needed him ...as a protector and saviour...many times he has said also that she wouldn't survive without him...she needs him...I think for a person with very low self worth that would be a big boost! On the other hand Laila has always preen shown as someone who does what she wants..be it defying him and following him to Birpur or even coming and going as she pleases without asking him..she hasn't really been subservient to him or shown that she needs his protection!

In fact when she came to the haveli saying she had been wounded and Rudra saw h wounds the same protective instinct seemed to come to the fore...although I believe Paros emotional arm twisting was to a great extent responsible for Laila staying back against Rudra's wishes the fact that Laila came to him seeking protection did play a role in him not protesting too much..!
Right after that when Paro asked why he didn't think of leaving her at BSD and why she was different and tripped he said that she needed him always...implying that's why he couldn't leave her there???and he could think of leaving Laila!

Being independent is not a negative thing at all but I think Rudra liked feeling needed by Paro whereas with Laila he was allowed to think there was no emotional bond and no obligation and nothing expected of him...she accepted what he wanted and behaved accordingly...so he never felt the need to change..he was allowed to be how he wanted...so he shared what he wanted...never felt the need to key go of anything...!

In Paros case he was forced to stay in the haveli again and circumstances brought him face to face with hs family and his past and he went far more in depth and shared his pain more..he didn't go to Paro seeking anything in particular..Paro always said she needed him and situations were such that his angst came out and he learned to be more human..!

So I feel that these factors played a role in drawing him closer to Paro so quickly and not having any deep feelings for Laila..he also never had to examine why he kept going to Laila..noone asked him to...least of all Laila..in Paros case he is forced to introspect...so that's the reason as well!

Valid question...

what i think is...Rudra didnt connect to Laila emotionally because Laila loved the beast in him as she admitted to Mohini...we all saw in the past how Rudra retaliates when someone tries to get close to him emotionally...he tried to push away Paro first, denying any feelings he might have for her...But Paro never gave up on him...probably Laila failed to make this extra attempt to touch his heart and was contempt with only the wild lover that he used to be.

Also to add to this Rudra have matured as a person over these years..the madness of his early years have subsided...and Paro makes him want to be a better person...we can see that how he apologized to Maithili for his rudeness...

But he is yet to acknowledge his feelings for Paro...Paro is putting up with Laila and her crap only because she cannot make out whether she has a claim on Rudra...can she stand up against a woman who had been intimately related to Rudra for so many years...its now Rudra's time to react actually...he needs to make Paro realize what she is in his life!!

I doubt if the issue was even that of Parvati's virginal status or her admittedly knockout beauty. The issue is that of her vulnerability, and his ability and his need, to protect that vulnerable woman. The man is trained to protect. It is bred into him, as a member of the army, as Dilsher's son who has had to watch over an alcoholic father, has had to feed him and take even his parent around with him everywhere. The profession he has chosen serves this need in Rudra--the need to be needed, to be the one who is trusted by others to protect and defend. She appeals to him from the second he sees her, in his rear view mirror, as a helpless, terrified innocent about to be attacked. From that point, every time he sees her, it is in a situation that needs him to intervene--whether she knows it or not.

And the fact she is unaware of her danger makes him even more rabid when it comes to protecting her--because her innocently walking into fire undermines HIM, his duty to her, to her safety. He takes his "job," any thing he undertakes to do dead seriously...and the moment he sees Paro, her safety is as much an obsession with him as the BSD is.

His initial instinct, as a man, is to cherish and watch over his woman. Laila gave him absolutely no scope for this in the past, she was if anything, too independent, following him through postings and showing up in tents. Nor does she, in her current avatar, convince him of her helplessness. With marks on her back and a cut lip, Laila still cannot make him believe that she needs his protection. As he says--he knows her better than she knows herself.

Paro, from the beginning, was his, to protect, to defend and to watch over. This was the one way to his heart--through his job, and his nature. She got through on both counts.

Gotta admit, I think the sexy kamariya didn't hurt,either...

Hey Deeps 🤗 🤗 🤗
What a cool thread! With some amazing posts! ACTWym cool essay!
Sometimes it is hard to see how these two fell in love and I think as Paro said this week - the love is not there in their marriage yet
From her side I guess it was more devotion, so she will find the meaning of true love and from Rudra'a side he is not totally an insaan yet he is just softening
As you rightly said Paro seems to be there at all his big life events even as a child - so destiny somehow plays a part
And I do think he does have some feelings for Laila - they are just not love in it's truest form

I think this track/ story is interesting ( of course it is bringing out such awesome posts!) and I can't wait to see where they take it - how they all deal with this uncomfortable situation will be great to watch!

edit: I know again a looong post but I think this one may actually smaller than the first two...which is some improvement right? sorry for the long posts...I can't help but get carried away when i start talking about these guys...appreciate you patience to actually read it all...

@goguma...yeah I know really long post I commend you and everyone who read it...takes patience...I know...😛
@cyberOstrich...thank you...😳

Msfrootie thank you for introducing this topic...and getting so many people to write such brilliant answers to make us better understand...

now coming to the question you and goguma posed after my second post...I'm going to try and keep this one small...but I can't promise 😛

firstly tackling Paaro's role in the four life changing events I listed...you are right to say the first 3 go against Paaro, only the fourth shines some positivety on her...n I believe you are asking then how does is he shown falling for her in jaipur when the fourth hasn't happened at that point...true that...but you somewhat answered it yourself...

Paaro's persistence...but that's not all there is...after DIlsher awakens we see him shifting towards forgiving Paaro...before that he is hell-bent on kicking her out and not listening to her...but after Dilsher awakens..he is made to realise by Dilsher that Paaro could not have done it...Dilsher the person who saw with is own eyes a bride throwing the torch n running is adamant that it couldn't be Paaro, for she is not capable of it...Dilsher is the third, but the most important voice he trusts to tell him Paaro cannot have done this, the first two being Aman and Danveer, who both negated Paaro having any hand init...he trusts their opinion but fear, insecurity and anger makes him not listen to it, as it doesn't make him listen to the voice inside his own head that tells him Paaro could not have done it...if you recall he asks Sunehri twice to be sure that it was Paaro, because he doesn't believe it the first time...anyhow rocky relationship as he has with his father...he trusts him and his opinions...just the way he never forgets his father's advice to not trust pretty women he also listens to his father's statement of Paaro's pure character...so Dilsher's words stop him from treating her like a criminal...whether he agrees that she innocent or whether he decides that she should be forgiven for she has repented is unclear...but either way...this leads to him becoming somewhat pacified against Paaro...until Sumer's photo of Paaro is published...he finds a new reason to hate her and punishes her by marriage, to save his skin and to exact his revenge...but on the very first day of their marriage it is revealed that Sumer is responsible for it not Paaro...so he has to tone down a little but he still has every right ot be angry at Paaro because she gave Sumer the chance to take advantage of the situation...which is what he says to her when she asks now do you forgive seeing that I didn't take the pix...he tells her she is still responsible...which she is...and so he continues the cold behaviour...but the way she deals with the women's right people he is left in awe...for she takes the blame and clears his name completely ... she says the truth but she says it in a way that makes sure she can hide the truths that she doesn't want them to know...such as how they got married...rudra's vows and his anger...this speech of hers' for the first time sitrs something inside of him...he see's Paaro for the first time in a sense...for her strength of mind and character are shown...something he never thought was in her...he calls her 'bichari' continually before this scene infuriated by it because he knows she is not a 'bichari'...he thinks it is a farce she uses to get her way...in her speech with the women he see's it's not a farce and she doesn't enjoy playing the 'bichari' because she isn't in fact she is very strong...this the woman echos too...that Paaro is strong...amy be even stronger than Rudra himself...

After this encounter you see, that his anger at her has completely faded away and instead there is awe...for the first time...in this mind he is told that once the report comes he will re-instated to BSD and in the meanwhile he is to go to Jaipur...and is also told to thank Paaro by VK Singh...Rudra registers at some level that she deserves his gratitude...but he isn't there yet where he can openly admit it in front of her...so how does he do it...by taking her to Jaipur with him...two reasons prevail this decision...one he doesn't want Kaki sa to hurt Paaro, not because just because he cares for Paaro but because he knows the only reason Kaki sa is hurting her is because of Rudra..she wants them out of the house as she wants to reign init...but it's not right Paaro doesn't deserve to be harmed because Kaki sa is greedy and wants Rudra out of her life...so that is one reason, he doesn't want to come back find Paaro seriously injured and the second...its his way of thank you...thank you for saving his job and for hiding the burn...

And his attraction in Jaipur...well he is pacified now so he doesn't see any reason to be vengeful against her...therefore treats her normally...pays a bit more attention to her and her needs because it's a new place and so doesn't wish for her to get lost or hurt...n then the party scene...well he is a man...and in comes his wife looking gorgeous...as much as he may want to have nothing to do with her he cannot deny her beauty add to that Geetanjali gets them both drunk and so they both loosen up and he comes close to her...but she isn't ready so he backs away...

After all this comes the poison incident this, as you have said put Paaro in the positive light...this incident comes after he is already starting admire her...then seeing her nurturing side he is drawn further...when Dilsher and Aman see this they tease him saying he is in love...but he isn't and he knows that...however at the same time he cannot deny that something is stirring between them...that he is starting to care for her more than he did before...before it was just making sure she is harmed in anyway...but now he is starting to keep tabs on whether she has arrived home safely or not...these thoughts begin to surround him plus Dilsher's words of how he should embrace Paaro and his new life not fight it...so he tries...thinking that may be he can have a go at a happy life...but he knows before he can start a new life he must tell Paaro about his past...which he begins too...but is rudely interrupted by Laila...now he is confused and scared...like he says whenever I try to move on my past always finds me and stops me...

he wants to tell Paaro all...and would have if she had not come...something tells me he would have told not just about Mala but about Laila too that night...but Laila comes in between and now he doesn't know how to tell her...because there is one thing telling your wife about your past and another of that past being there in the present...he knows how Laila loves him or is obssessed with him and so knows she will use there past to create problems between them...like she has already started...first by forcing paaro to get the past out of Rudra...paaro was happy to let rudra take his time...but Laila word games forces Paaro to ask and forces rudra to tell while Paaro isn't ready to hear it and rudra isn't ready to say it...the is a right time and a right way to tell things...unfortunately laila's truth comes out in the wrong way...if it had come out before she had arrived the night rudra was ready to reveal all...Paaro would still have been shocked and would still most likely want space...but she would also come out of the shock faster...now even if she tries too...she will see Laila with Rudra all the time and it will hurt her every time therefore making it more difficult and painful for her to accept it...

so that I think answers your question about Paaro and how the four events change Parud equation...as they make him realise he may have a chance at a happy life...given this chance he wants to take it...and so laila is late...rudra has been shown the light now...so he will not turn back to the darkness...it's like Mala's abandonment threw him into a ditch and instead of climbing up and out he dug further in thinking there was a way out there...for 8yrs he does this until paaro comes...they quarrel and she says the way out is up...after lots of squabbles he decides to give her way a chance and begins climbing up...he has still got a long way to go, but from where he is he can see the light telling him that is the way out...paaro is the way out...but Laila is calling from the depth of the ditch saying she is the way out...now he may be confused as to why she is saying that when he can clearly see the light is above, with Paaro...this confusion has made his stop in his advance... but it doesn't make him descend and hopefully he will learn soon enough to not listen to laila but climb out...or rather tell Laila to climb up and out to rather then going further in...which would be the nicer end to Rudra Laila...him showing her a way out too...but I think that is asking waay too much from Laila considering they are determined on making her the villain...

now coming to goguma's question...n yours of how can Rudra not feel anything for Laila...I said in my previous post he must...echoing yours and other thoughts here...that his actions...the fact that he gets affected by her is proof that he does feel something...there is something...and I think after much rambling and thinking I have come with a way to prove this...whether or not the creatives decide to show this...I think they should as it will give Laila and Rudra some definition rather then just making Laila black and a villain...but one doesn't know which way they will go due to trp and convention n stuff...anyway so the way I see it, how I know there is emotion between them...is the because of Dilsher and Rudra's relationship...before Dilsher gets comatosed...Rudra is admant that Dilsher is nothing to him...he doesn't respect him or treat him like a son should father...he is blunt and cold with him...much in the same way he is with Laila...but after Dilsher nearly dies...Rudra realises that Dilsher is very important to him...he may not have been a idealistic parent...but he is his parent nontheless...and his support system...he has been the one constant in his life...someone who has always been there not necessarily for support but to be miserable with...at Dilsher's deathbed Rudra realises that he cannot do without him...he can go on in life without laila and paaro...but not without Dilsher...ok so I am not writing this to say that if something were to happen to Laila he would suddenly break and realise that he is love with her or something...no that is not the case...because he doesn't love Laila thta much is clear to him...what he doesn't realise is that just because he doesn't love her doesn't mean he doesn't care...if something were to happen to her he would be affected...why go in the hypothetical...she is, in his eyes, supposedly in danger at the moment from tejawat's men...that is why he is keeping her at the house...no I haven't forgotten that it was on Paaro's insistance but she is in the house now due to Rudra's will...i say this because...before Rudra gets any indication of tejawat's men being close by he is ready to kick Laila out on the mere fact that she lies about the aarthi...however, now she is threatenning his relationship with paaro but he doesn't even think of kicking her out...why because he feels the need to protect her too...when she arrives at the house he was willing to turn her away right there and then and tell the officer to take her to the BSD camp to keep her safe and that was at night time too...but at that point he thought she was lying...now it is night time too and she uses her mind-games to get Paaro suspicious about him and Laila yet he doesn't kick her out...he doesn't even kick her out of the room when he decides to tell all...instead takes paaro and heads out himself...that all shows...that he does care...not love...but cares...

now whether the writers develop and make rudra realise is a different thing...but my heart is finally at peace...now that I realise he does care...that he isn't heartless..which is whaat Paaro fears...that is what scares her more than the fact that he was with Laila...she cannot wrap her head around the fact that he slept with Laila and felt nothing...the writers should really go down this track and make Rudra realise somehow that he does care for Laila and make him admit it, only then will paaro revive...for at the moment all hope inside her has died...hope that Rudra may love her one day...this hope dies the moment he says I never felt anything for Laila...in order to revive that hope Rudra needs to realise that laila is a part of his life and means something...only then will paaro be able to come to terms with it...and as for Laila and Rudra..when Rudra realises this he should give Laila closure...apologise to her...he needs to not because he slept with her...but for breaking her heart, even if it was unknowingly...for he gave her the impression that he would be with her always...but then he breaks this which is what gets her going off the rails...she was happy in the no strings attached relationship as long as he was with her...but when he gets another woman it hurts her and she wants blood...so he should realise that he is somewhat at fault for breaking that trust/faith/bond relationship that exits between them and so should apologise for his character growth and closure for Laila... just the way he apologised about not believing her when she said Tejawat's men were after her...although something tells me Laila won't see it as closure but will most likely re-enter as sumer's wife...considering she has already figured he is of some value..plus sumer always lovevs being a thorn in rudra's side...so...anyway I shall end here...n man I have done it again haven't I...sorry I keep on thinking I will write less this time but end up writing so much more...thank you for being patient and reading through my thoughts...😳

Absolutely agree to the bit in purple...Rudra needs to make the first move...referring back to the metaphor of the ditch I used in my 3rd post...only when Rudra shows paaro that he wants to conitnue on climbing up...will she then fight back realising he has given her his rights...at this moment she is questioning that belief...she had started to think that Rudra was accepting her as his wife and was giving her his rights that why she didn't care that Laila was in the house...for she says to maithali I trust him 100 percent...but his one denial about not ever caring for Laila...makes her question this...makes her question that does she actually have any rights on him...her flashback of the marriagee vows are evidence to this...she recalls how he said it there and then she will never have any rights on him...so now she is left wondering was she wrong to think his changing attitude towards her suggested he was giving her his rights...or was she right...for her at the moment in her opinion Laila possess more rights...only when Rudra shows her that she is the only one who can claim him...will she then fight and stand up against Laila...before that she will remain subdued..uncertain of what to do...should she fight for her husband or should she not? Probably, throughout these 8 years...though Laila says she didnt court any other man, Rudra himself would not have been least bothered if she had...thats all that aspect of relationship menat to him...
given that people in serious love can fall out of love and become strangers in no time, its not unnatural that Rudra doesnt feel anything for Laila...he infact had left her back in jaipur when he came to the village...she had only come finding him...

everyone has so many layers...the Rudra who wept for his soldiers didnt feel anything for Laila..and wouldnt weep for her...

had she given him the love to heal...instead of fanning the fire in his heart...had she been a true friend...am sure Rudra would have surely married her if Paro didnt enter this story...but she was seeking her comforts only and Rudra never considered her as a prospect at alll...

@ ACT- bold green- See that might be in a normal situation, but here the issue is compounded by the fact that she's vowed to leave him as per her oath to Bholenaath, as soon as he recovers!! Now that makes me more inclined to think that this actually might go the sacrificial way! Yes- she might even want to fight after she recovers from the shock- but Laila is not a BLACK person to her right now. I think Paro will perceive her to be a victim of circumstances and will sympathize with her and laila will leave no stone unturned to try to gain that sympathy and show her that how devoted she has been to Major saab for 8 years! So untill and unless Paro gets to know that all this is Laila's game plan- I dont think she's fighting back- whatever Rudra says at this moment! BUT- she can and will accept and understand where Rudra is coming from- and then might leave him- which will be bigger blow to Rudra coz by then he might have accepted that he really does love Paro! Thats what I think atleast- lets see- as her oath is definetely going to play out. Just hope that Laila is not factored in that oath now!
