Deivamagal focuses on the life of working women, their role and their contribution to our lives and society in general. Aimed at bringing out the perspective of a working woman - their joys, sorrows, trials and tribulations. Sathya is the elder daughter of Sundaram and Sampoornam. She has two younger sisters Dharani and Anjali. A wedding proposal comes to Sathya to marry Karthik, son of a rich business woman Annapoorni. Sundaram who loves his daughters very much, wants his daughter's marriage to take place in a grand manner. Also he agrees to pay a very big dowry to Annapoorni for the sake of his daughter whom he loves a lot. But when the day of wedding gets closer Sundaram starts facing for troubles. He faces a big loss in his business and he mortgages almost all his properties to arrange money for Sathya's marriage. Among lots of troubles and problems somehow he manages to find the required money and jewelries for the wedding. In middle of many problems Sathya and Karthik wedding is to take place now. But unfortunately on the wedding day, when karthik is ready to tie the knot in Sathya's neck, by mistakenly the thaali falls into the fire. Annapoorni puts the blame on Sathya that all the bad things during the wedding happened because of Sathya's horroscope. While Sundaram begs not to stop the marriage, Annapoorni walks away with Karthik. Sundaram and his family get very upset because Sathya's wedding got stopped. Heartbroken Sundaram dies immediately after that incident.

Now Sathya's family comes to know that Sundaram has mortgaged all their properties and borrowed lot of money for the wedding. Sathya's family lose all their properties including their house because they are unable to pay off the debts. Now the only person who supports Sathya's family is Devaraj (Sathya's maternal uncle). Devaraj takes Sampoornam and her three daughters to Chennai to live with him. Finally they arrive at Devaraj's house. Saroja (Devaraj's wife) doesn't like it and she starts treating them like servants. In the meantime, there is a family introduced in the story and the head of the family(Chidambaram) is believed to be follower of Gandhiji and their home is referred as "Jai Hind Vilas". Prakash, son of Chidambaram and Janaki is very outrageous and straight forward person with high self-esteem. The whole family members in this vilas are dominated by first daughter in law in the family, the only reason because she earns more and working as General Manager in reputed star hotel. Being a snob, she used to control everyone in the vilas except prakash because prakash never listens to her and never depends on her for money.

Due to turn of events, Prakash and Sathya first meeting was not so memorable and they used to have clash every time they meet due to situations which are not favourable on their side. Sathya gets a job in Star hotel and she was responsible to deposit the money everyday in bank. Due to feud with sathya in the past, prakash plan the robbery and steal her money on the way. After the big fight with Prakash, in a way they had become friends. Sathya came to terms with prakash understanding that he is very good person except the fact that he is short tempered. Dharani has had a big crush on suresh and what happened was that she sneaked in the bathroom when suresh was taking a bath and then saroja kicked that whole family out. Now they have no where to go so Thilaga (praksh's second sister in law) offers sathya her home but is kicked out by the landlord again. Then praksh makes arrangements at his friend's house for them to stay at. Sathya now looks for another job. While looking she accidentally runs into Karthik through prakash who arranges an job for her at karthik's office without knowing the past incidents in lives of sathya and karthik. She walks out immediately from Karthik's office after a spat.

In the meantime, Saroja looks a girl for suresh's marriage. The bride's family hear about dharani's and suresh's incident and they declare they must find a boy for her first and get married, then suresh will marry her daughter. In between all these things, Praksh gets a government job and his parents also want to look out for a bride for him. But his mom wants Sathya to be her daughter in law because she is well educated and knows family values and can be good wife and a daughter in law. Without informing Prakash, prakash's parents take a quick step and go to Sampoornam and ask her consent. Sampoornam is delighted with joy but sathya rejects saying there is no place for marriage in her life and she wants to keep her family happy and always wants to be a spinster. Later when prakash came to know about this marriage proposal, he also had an argument with his parents because he just considered sathya as a good friend and nothing more than that. Prakash's sister in law gayathri tries to spoil all marriage proposals that comes on the way for Prakash because of the grudge that she holds against him. Prakash challenges his sister in law and asks Sampoornam to consider dharani for marriage because he doesn't want to lose the battle that his sister in law declare. Sathya rejects this marriage proposal that came for her sister considering that Prakash's sister in law will never allow dharani be happy. After a lot of struggles the marriage date is finalized.

But unfortunately, the day before marriage, Dharani elopes to get married with Suresh, and the family members are humiliated by this. To save the embarrassment, Sathya must now marry prakash. But she doesn't want to but her mom pleads her to marry prakash. That night, Prakash understands the mind state of Sathya and request her not to worry and also tell her that they will pretend to be husband and wife for outside world but inside they are just friends. Sathya agrees and also she found a new respect for Prakash. Later, Prakash asks satya to promise not to talk or visit the Devaraj family due to the marriage of Dharani and Suresh. Later when she breaks the promise he gets drunk and yells at her for meeting her uncle. This makes Gayathri and her sister vinodhini very happy. They always try to create conflict between Prakash and Sathya. On one fine day, Prakash visits Sampoornam's house for a feast and behaves very kind and gentle to sathya's mom. This impresses sathya. Day by day, Prakash and Sathya came closer and tries to understand each other. During Sathya's Father Death ceremony, Prakash refuses to do the rituals,so sampoornam asks Suresh to do the same. Later Prakash changes his mind for Sathya and decides to do the rituals. But Gayathri turns Dharani against Sathya and creates an issue between Prakash and sathya. Prakash understands Sathya and decides to do the rituals all alone. This impresses Satya again. Gayathri was furious that her plan got ruined and because of the wrath towards prakash and sathya, she plans another tact and want Moorthy to hit and run Sampoornam. She thought so that there will be an another misunderstanding between Sathya and Prakash. Sathya get to know the information about her mother's accident and decides to go and help her mother in the hospital. Gayathri takes the opportunity and tries to turn Prakash against Sathya. Later Sathya came to know through Prakash's friend that Prakash only admitted her mother in the hospital. She apologize to Prakash for her misunderstanding and she also admits that she understood true love of Prakash and his good caring nature. Sathya said that she didn't want to keep Prakash away and she fell onto his chest. They both decide to start their life at that moment. They are going to be parents soon. After that they both had a lot of cute romantic scenes. Meanwhile, Saroja wants her son to marry Sowmya to get her wealth and she wants her son to lead a rich life. so she comes up with lot of plans to create conflict between Suresh and Dharini and also had upper hand in all the plans and she achieved what she wanted to happen. Due to Saroja's plans, Dharini moves out and she got into trouble thereafter. Dharini need someone to save her life from the misery she got into. Amidst of lot of speculation, Prakash with the help from cops finally saved Dharini from the danger prevailing around her after lot of twists and turns.Sathya later attends.Anjali's function without telling prakash. she has to go home before prakash comes in that hurry she skipped in the door entrance and fell down .unfotunately she lost her baby.With the help of Ashok and Thilaga,Sathya is admitted to the hospital.When she gains consciousness se comes to know that she lost her child.Now she is confused and scared how prakash would take the news.Meanwhile,the doctor says that she has to stay in the hospital that night.At that time prakash calls sathya and says that he is at the hospital because a child met with an accident because of his friend.Later sathya tells her mother on law that she has to stay with Anjali.That night goes smoothly.Later goes on the same fight scenes.After a long time prakash asks sathya if he is taking her medicines.And with prakash forcing she puts a tablet.She later throws the tablet cover on the floor and it is spotted by gaythri.At that time prakash is accused for taking bribe again.Sathya does not believe Prakash and yells at him.In a fury prakash slaps sathya and she faints.She is rished to the hospital.And by now Sampooranam knows that sthya has lost her baby.And she is informed by prakash mother that happened.Askok,Thilaga and Sampooranam are at the hospital.Prakash thinks about Maha.The trio are guilty that they are hiding a big issue. But then Sampooranam accidentally bulbs out the problem and a big problem strikes between Sathya and Prakash. Then Prakash kicked Sathya out of the house.Then when Sathya Saw Ragini, she was surprised to see that Ragini and Vasan th (a boy Studying in her College) were discussing about going to Mahabalipuram or to Pudhucherry. Then Vasanth went back to his house. Then Sathya was Watching all this she went near Ragini and slapped Ragini. Then Ragini Started to cry and told the whole story wha had really happened.(One day when Ragini was walking with her other friend in the beach. There she saw Vasanth and started to talk with him. She sent her other friend and started to talk again. Vasanth ha a video in which Ragini was changing her dress and he showed it to Ragini Then she became very angry and a little sad too. She went out of the beach with anger and Vassnth followed her with his bike and stopped her on the road. He asked Ragini whether she can spend a day with him by going to Puddhuchery or to Mahabalipuram. But she refused and so he scolded her that he will put that video in YouTube so that everyone might see that. Ragini fell on Vasanth's leg but he refused and he gave her some days to decide and that was the last day.) When Sathya about all this Sathya felt sorry to slap her and asked her all the details about his mother and father so Sathya Went to Vasanth's Mother's office an talked to her about this. At first Usha(Vasanth's Mother) she didn't believe on them and thought that they were here to grab some money But at last Sathya showed a message which Vasanth ha send to her. She was Surprised to read the message and felt sorry for Ragini and consoled her. Now she went back to her house she announced this to his husband and they both started to hit and beat Vasanth.Vasanth asked a lot sorries but it was of no use and his parents broke his cellphones and gave it to Sathya at the beach. Sathya is accidentally shown talking to the officer on TV, which is seen by Prakash and Ekambaram. A few days ago, Sathya saw Prakash at a bar and told him that she would make sure that he would never take a bribe again. Keeping this in mind, Prakash suspects that Sathya is complaining about him. A few hours later, he is arrested by the same officer for taking a bribe. Then he confirmed that it was Sathya who filed a complaint. He is taken out of jail and decides to send a diverse notice to Sathya. Also, Suresh would have sent a diverse notice to Dharini a few days ago, and finally decides to marry Sowmya. Day by day, Sujatha (Suresh's sister) and Karthik get closer to each other. At the Jai hind Villas, Ragini tries to prove to Prakash that Sathya was talking about Raagini to the officer. She even tries to go the officer's house but to her sadness, the officer lies that she doesn't know her. Sathya meets the officer and the officer told her that she lied because what her son did was humiliation to her family. Also, Sathya asks why she arrested Prakash. For that, Usha Rani replied that she got a call from a lady from a public booth that Prakash was going to take a bribe. Meanwhile, Gaayathri went to Sathya's house to console her to remove suspicions that Sathya has on her about the lady who sent Prakash to jail. Chidambaram and Janaki plan to bring Sathya to their house.
