Ash-Abhi take French leave

The couple refused to attended the Guru premiere at Cannes, as it was coming in the way of their extended honeymoon. A disappointed Mani Ratnam held fort alone

A still from Guru

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai gave a royal ditch to director Mani Ratnam at Cannes. Although the couple was at Cannes recently, they gave Guru premiere a miss despite Ratnam's frequent requests. Obviously, this has not gone down well with Ratnam. Says a source close to the filmmaker, "Yes Abhishek and Aishwarya had other plans and they were flying out the very day Guru premiered here. Mr Ratnam had asked them to stay back but to no avail."

The cast members not only attended the red-carpet event, but also addressed the audiences and the media at the festival. The two were conspicuous by their absence. Says another source from Cannes, "Abhishek and Ash were not present at the premiere. Mani Ratnam is not too happy with the way the actors opted out of the event."

Apparently, the couple believes that they are long done with the film and any publicity exercise at this point is of no use. Says a source close to Aishwarya, "She is on a pleasure trip after a long time. Obviously, she didn't want to think about work. The Guru premiere would have been followed by interviews and discussions. She has already interrupted her honeymoon for her earlier commitment to L'Oreal.
Mani Ratnam
" She made an appearance on May 16 for the opening-night screening of Wong Kar-Wai's My Blueberry Nights. Then she had said that she would return to her vacation by the weekend."

Also, the actress had told the producers (UTV) of Jodha Akbar that she would not be part of the luncheon and other promotional events for Jodha Akbar.

That's really sad. Mani ratnam worked so hard for the movie. Abhishek-Ash could had stayed a day for Mani ratnam. It's true sh cares for her hollywood commitment then bollywood. If she could stay at cannes for L'oreal then why not for her favorite director? or was she showing her faking behaviour that mani ratnam is a guru to him, is that's how you respect your guru? Same goes for Abhishek. He should be thankful to Mani ratnam, because mani has always given good roles to abhishek and taken out good performances as well. Abhishek-Ash got the first hit together after so many years, they should be thankful but they are showing so egos 😕 Ash not promoting for JA doesn't surprises me at all

I so agree with you, how can they say they no longer need to promote the film - its part of their job as actors. 😆

Its rthr sad tht Abhi-Ash couldnt stay back for the director, who extracted such brilliant performances out of them. The world wouldnt have seen the actor in ABhishek if it weren't for Mani Ratnam.

If the couple really cared for their honeymoon, they shouldn't have came to cannes.

i agree with you totally.👏👏 i mean why leave a job unfinished? they should have attended the 'Guru' premiere & then left for their desired destination. at least in that way, they both could have shown their thanks to mani ratnam.
