So OK he has 3 iconic films- Pulp Fiction, Grease, Saturday Night Fever (I stand corrected), but in a career spanning 35 years, how is that something to be proud of? (granted Pulp Fiction is considered one of the greatest films of all time). Like Tarantino said, if he hadn't offered him Pulp Fiction, he'd probably be churning out Look Who's Talking Part 5. 😆 He practically revived his career with Pulp Fiction, yet despite that his career is still in a lull if you consider the last decade- only Hairspray stands out.
With neither recent commercial/critical success, this would be a good move for him, its not as though he has anything else/better in the pipeline.
Like you found my dissing his filmography a surprise, I think saying BW's top actors would envy his career is definitely a push! Travolta is more of a dance icon, not a movie icon.
Edit: typo
See I don't agree that the number of hits an actor has determines how good he is. Travolta has had a really tumultuous career but I think the sheer popularity (both critically and commercially) of his 'hit' films counters that. Plus he's done some very good films that were just average commercially.
He's not in the league of actors like Pacino, Oldman, D Lewis, etc. However to say he's had bad career is pushing it. He's had a bumpy career. Also I get the impression he just doesn't take acting seriously anymore, and is happy to do stuff that will bring in some money. Personally I think that's why Hairspray has been his only major hit recently.
By the way just noticed you username, I admire anyone who loves Doctor Who, it proves they have good taste. Lol.
