PART 16
Dear Diary,
It's been a month to that day, a month to the day when my life turned upside down. It's been a month to that day when I lost my father and my best friend, when my mother lost her husband and when Atif lost his sister.
I was shattered. I am still. But I can't fall weak now, for the sake of my family which has lost their pillar of support.
Life is unpredictable. It is. We never know what is going to happen in the very next moment of our lives. We are the puppets which only seem to dance to the tune of the puppeteer, called Life.
Life can really be a bitch!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flashback starts
Asad sprinted towards Zoya and embraced her fragile frame in his broad physique. There were endless tears rolling down her eyes. She wept silently for a moment and soon her screeches took over the silence. She was shattered, she was vulnerable.
"What happened Zoya? Tell me?", Asad asked, cupping her moist cheeks. There was no answer from her.
"Just tell me... What has happened?", he asked her again and this time shaking her slightly to drown her screeches.
"It's over Asad!! Everything is over!"
Her words did not make sense in Asad's already worried brain.
"What is over? What are you saying?", he asked her again, keeping himself as calm as possible.
"Abbu... Humeira...", this was all she could say in between her cries.
"I am taking you home.. Right now", said Asad, trying hard not to panic.
"No... not home... take me to the hospital.. They are there. I want to see them...", she said again, in between her sobs.
By the time they had reached the hospital, Zeenat was already there. She looked like one frail statue whose life has been sucked out of her. Zoya ran towards her and wrapped her arms tightly around her.
"Ammi..."
It was of no use. She wouldn't answer.
"Ammi..."
Zeenat looked at her daughter and let out the tears that were flowing silently till now. Zoya held her close in her arms and gave her as much support she could, though she was badly in need of one.
The next few hours were the longest hours in Zoya's life. She had to be the strength of her mother whose happiness was ravaged in the accident that happened just a few hours back. She had to be the aid for Atif who was traumatized to learn about the demise of his sister. But all throughout, she got her support from one person, Asad.
He was there when she needed someone to be by Zeenat's side when she went to collect the discharge papers. He was there to bring Atif back home safe and sound. He was there as a family at the burial of her loved ones. He was there all throughout, day or night, being her strength. She served her shoulder for others to lean on, but somewhere she was aware that one person was always there for her who would let him have his shoulder to lean and cry on.
But life is cruel. It took twists and turns every day. Sometimes her mother's ailment or sometimes Atif's insensible acts of reaching his sister would make situation more complicated for Zoya. But that is how life is. It teaches you a new lesson at every step you take. And this time it taught Zoya that nothing is stagnant in life. A cheerful girl of 20 had suddenly turned to a woman who knew how harsh life could be, yet it had to be lived with a smile for the ones we love.
Flashback ends
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zoya's family was not left behind to struggle for the rest of their lives to make both ends meet.. They had been left with enough by her father and Zeenat was still working which would let them lead a life without any crisis. But the pillar of support was gone forever. Her mother had lost the love of her life, the best friend in her husband. And Humeira was no less than a daughter to her. She was now a weak woman who was constantly in a fear of losing her loved ones.
Zoya gave Zeenat her medicines and went to have a look on Atif. He had not only lost his sister, but also his only family. Zoya could never let him stay alone in the house where the memories of his parents and sister would not let him be out of his trauma. She was in a constant fear of Atif trying to do something foolish again. She could never let him be out of her sight even for a moment. Zoya was satisfied to see his sleeping form. It was a rare sight these days.
She went towards her own room and waited for sleep to embrace her. She looked at the picture that she had given to Humeira on her last birthday. Yes, she had brought along a few things from that house that belonged to Humeira. The frame was one of them. It gave her an invisible strength that always encouraged her to keep going.
"I know you are there Humi... I know you will always be there just like the way Abbu is. Your daughter will make you proud Abbu. She will not fail you.", Zoya uttered the last words of her father.
-------------------------------------
"Where have you been Asad? ", Dilshad asked him. He was late to reach home again. She knew that Asad was spending long hours with Zoya since a month, but she also knew that he was not staying with Zoya for so long at night. A person like Zoya would never let him do that.
"I am sorry Ammi", he said dejectedly and went towards his room.
"That was not the answer to my question Asad. I had asked you something else!", asked Dilshad. Her voice was firm and it showed that she was not in a mood to hear a lie.
"Can we please talk later Ammi? I feel tired."
"Tired of what Asad? Lying?"
Asad was suddenly perturbed by his mother's cold behavior towards him.
"What are you talking about?", asked Asad confusedly.
"How is Zoya and her family?", asked Dilshad, not paying any attention to what Asad had asked her.
"She is trying to be fine, for her family."Asad said, sighing heavily and running his fingers through his disheveled hair.
"Were you with her now?"
Asad knew that he was caught already and there was no point in lying anymore.
"No Ammi.. I went to meet her in the morning."
"Then where were you till now?"
"Ammi.. What is wrong with you? Can't I go out for a while according to my own will? Will I need to take permission for that from your husband?", he said out loud. He had never ever done that in front of Dilshad.
"The person you are talking about is your father Asad", her voice gave him an ultimatum. "And right now I am talking about you and This!", she said while showing him an envelope held in her hand.
"What is This Asad? Why didn't you tell me before?", she was calm now but there was despair in her voice.
Asad took long strides towards her and held her close to himself. He took her to his room and made her sit on the bed. He knelt down on his knees and clutched her palm in his and rested them on her lap.
"Ammi, please listen to me. I wanted to tell you, but I couldn't. So much had happened in this one month's time... I wanted to tell you, but I never got a chance. Trust me Ammi."
"Ammi, please say something. I didn't want to hurt you, but... I..."
"Did you tell Zoya about it?", Asad was cut off in between.
"Woh.. Actually Ammi..."
"Did You Tell Zoya Anything About This?", she asked him again, pausing after every word she said and eyeing at the envelope. Asad nodded his head in denial. Dilshad freed her hands from his hold and buried her face in her palms. She now let the tears fall freely from her eyes.
"You should have told her Asad. She is getting dependent on you. She will not be able to handle this. You should have told her about it before all this happened. You should have..."
She cried now. The mere thought of Zoya made her weak. She felt dearly for the girl who could successfully change her insensitive son to a sensible one. Her experienced eyes realized at the very first sight that she was the perfect girl for him. Moreover, she needed him now.
"I don't know anything Asad! I want you to talk to Zoya. If she is fine with it, then I will never stop you." Her words indicated finality.
"And, if you were not with Zoya, then where were you Asad?"
"I just wanted to stay alone for some time. I wanted to think what I exactly want."
"And did you find out what you want?"
"Yes... I just don't want to hurt anybody. Not you, not Zoya, not Abbu, and not any of my friends, not anyone."
Dilshad smiled a little. Her son was still the same, innocent and pure at heart.
"You won't Asad. You can't hurt anyone! You are My Son! I know you well. You will do what is right for you and for Zoya too."
She kissed his forehead and let him be by himself for some time, to think.
A/N: Hey guys.. before you all just just jump on me, let me say a few things..😆
I have always told you all in my comments that this story is not a lovey dovey one, yet it is a story about love. It deals with the emotions of two people which go unrecognized due to certain circumstances. And it's life that we are talking about. It takes turns according to its own will. But that's doesn't mean that good times do not come. We just need to be a little more patient. 😛
Keep reading this story. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. 😊
Please leave your likes and comments as I really need them to keep me going. 😃
