Sexual intimidation is not cool, Ms Gul Khan

I am talking about the precap. It doesn't matter that Ahil will not follow through on his "threat." The fact that sexual intimidation is once again used from the male lead on the heroine in one of Gul's shows tells me that they still haven't understood what's problematic and why.

Yes, Sanam goes to slap him and he stops her so she slaps him with her other hand. Let him grab her and pull her, but his words of answering the slap with a kiss--it may seem fiery and passionate but it's answering violence with sexual intimidation which is much worse than a slap. Why romanticize such things? Not cool, Ms Khan. Not cool at all.

And this has been done earlier too. Another hero-heroine introduction started off with sexual intimidation through wardrobe malfunction, and yet another one had a similar instance with a slap blocked by the hero who then proceeded to intimidate her sexually by closing in for an angry kiss. Those are just two instances out of even more I can recall.

If we start pointing out what is wrong and what is right then the Indian TV industry would have to stop making daily soaps...tell me one single show on air/off air which didn't show anything wrong...but people are still watching them and loving them no matter what crap they show...so better stop complaining and simply watch the drama. 😉 😃 it's not gonna change anything...AND we are sensible enough to know what is right/wrong for us. 😊

Gul likes to show the guy as macho and sexually intimidating the heroine.

The whole show now has a major echo to Gul's previous show, including the set. Sanam and Ahil remind me of the other couple. Some of the things happening are very much akin to those two. Not all, but some.

Ahil loves his mother and ASR loved his sister. He listened to her no matter what and Ahil appears to be the same. He kicked out that Simran chick just coz she said "why would anyone talk to their mum for so long"? Looks like on the subject of mum he is very touchy! Total mummy's boy. ASR was a mummy's boy too. He was haunted by mum's death and was struggling with her suicide daily. It also explained his character to a great extent! All hero's appear to be mummy's boys including Saras from the show Saraswatichandra who is still pining for his mum! Even Asad was a mummy's boy. Though he was a "shareef" boy, unlike Ahil!

So just like the "mummy's boy" is a recurring theme, Batameez boy or bad boy is a recurring theme too. It seems that THIS guy will take it to the limit and start declaring his "intent" to sexually assault or intimidate the heroine at the very outset. The others at least kept it in for awhile or just showed with their actions and didn't necessarily verbalise it! This guy is even verbalising it. Out of all of Gul's hero's that I have watched, this one is the most promiscuous and also uncaring of any conventions!

I want to see just how far this guy CAN go! From being a "purani shikari of the Gul jungle" I have LEARNT that I am wasting my breath telling her off about her male leads! No point! Yeh Gul Khabhi sunthi Nahin. Apni manmani karthi rehethi hain! Having said that I guess I will be up in arms again soon! Lol. Like when Asad slapped Zoya and the sound of that slap resonated on the forum. Same as when the ZOYAAN Nikah happened and eveyone accused Asad of "bartering" Zoya! So these controversies will just continue! Part of watching a Gul Khan show! Gul is addicted to her M & B heroes! She will never get out of it now! Let's stop expecting her to, and we will ALL enjoy ourselves more! I have learned to be "tongue in cheek" about these things now! To watch Gul's latest offering "Ahil", we are going to HAVE to develop a thicker skin! Be warned. This guy BURNS! :)

So it's better not to point out anything at all? I should just not say anything and not bother rather than pointing out what's so utterly wrong about what was shown?

In all the shows that have shown wrong, people have pointed it out. Whether or not it makes any difference is another matter. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't.

But at least it needs to be said.

Let me bring up exactly what he did. He answered a woman's insult by stating outright that he will kiss her. Well she's not receptive, so what he said was that he will force a kiss on her. Yes, he got a good whack, but that doesn't lessen the fact that this is what he did: sexually intimidate her.

And his actions are not a small thing. What he did is a lesser version of how men sexually assault and rape women as a show of power. When I use the word rape, does it seem extreme? But his actions exhibit the same thought.

So yeah, I'll point it out because it is problematic.

I do agree with all of you. No sense in expecting anything else from Gul Khan or 4Lions.

Note: this is not meant to be a confrontational reply. I agree with all three of you that it's best not to expect anything different than this.

To give Gul some credit, here at least he got a good whack unlike her previous shows where the hero got away with it--and as MrDarcyfan pointed it, it was actually verbalized unlike previous times where the same thing was shown but wasn't spelled out.

@MrDarcyfan, I have nothing much to add to your well written post.

^^ I understand what u r trying to say...voicing out your views rather than complaining allows you to take things from another perspectives... and believe me dear I have done it thousand times...everytime I watch any Muslim show portraying my religion in a wrong way I freaked out (because that is the most concerned topic for me) but nothing's gonna change...many of us are tired of pointing out flaws or the evilness they portray...but there also this another fact...they are in show bussiness...they will show every other thing what are prevelant in societies or rather say may be growing due to tv/films. All I know is you'll never get to get answers or reach to any conclusion. This have never stopped and never will. So it would be better for YOU only to look past over these things because you cannot do anything even if you are screaming out loud for the real reasons. Hope I did make sense and not just blabbing things out. 😊 😃 and MrDarcyfan nicely said. 😊

@ likarsh

Thanks for the compliment of calling my post well written. I have a feeling I am going to be active on the QH forum again just like I was on the IPK forum. I have to admit I loved that show and that is the show that propelled me towards Indian TV. Never watched Indian TV before. Since IPK, I have watched QH, Saraswatichandra and Veera.

All those shows are a bit different from their run of the mill Saas Bahu sagas which I can't stand. I think this season of QH looks like exactly my cup of tea. I just can't resist the "love transforms" theme. The idea of love coming out of nowhere when you least expect it, and transforming you and your world around you is something I always loved to watch.

Just like falling in love with Elizabeth Bennett changed Mr Darcy forever, and falling in love with Mr Darcy changed Elizabeth forever, the theme of opposites attract never gets old! It's a tried and tested formula that always works and that is why people use it. As my name would suggest I am an eternal Mr Darcy fan. He was the original arrogant hero who was brought to his knees by love. Since him everyone else has only followed his lead!

Mr Darcy was not a womaniser, but he was rich and had an attitude to match. He never wanted to waste time on those he thought were not important. He was proud. So in that sense, ASR, and Ahil and even Asad are like him. Asad was quite judgemental. The most like Mr Darcy out of the lot is ASR. Even still, no one can beat Mr Darcy! :)

no character can ever come close to that Fitzwilliam Darcy ...one of the most loved characters and just gets better with time ...even to this day i can read and watch the bbc drama again only to see him and his proud self and to add that Collin Firth nailed it to perfection IMO
You are right ...down the decades there is certain amount of darcy in all the popular shows and some amount in Asad as well as in Aahil too ( never saw IPK)

Glad to read about him here
thanks
