I have been meaning to make this post since the last two-three days, but didn't get enough time to sit down and right. So it's long overdue.
I just want to bring forth a much discussed issue on the forum once again - the promos of RR.
It has been eleven days since we had a promo. And it's not just the lack of promo that is troubling...but also the content and the timing. Promos have a great influence in the viewer's mind and often it's a deciding factor many. There are grossly two kinds of viewers, the ardent fans...who watch every single episode...and the other kind aren't so devoted. The TRP viewers (many, if not all) fall in the second category, as they sit down with a remote and switch channels frequently.
Unfortunately the wedding track didn't receive the expected ratings and I am sure most of us are a little upset about it, and more so, because the post wedding episodes have been lovely.
The promo we had was the wedding promo and although, it was impactful...it was rather shocking and depressing.
When the promo before that, i.e. the confession promo aired, it was positive and very intriguing and it peaked the curiosity of many people. After that, the ratings went up and people watched the episodes despite T20 world cup matches. I remember clearly that TRP had dropped slightly in the previous week but after the confession promo aired, it went up once again.
This was followed by wedding promo which was shocking and negative. It was probably needed as the wedding was a high point in the show, but it should have been followed by another promo which is light and positive.
I believe one of the main reasons the ratings last week didn't turn out as expected because people assumed it is yet another hate marriage. Things are going to be sad and gloomy for a while and a section of viewers might have decided to skip for a while. I mentioned this in one post 3 days ago, right after the TRPs came out...and at that point it was only my assumption.
But later, when I discussed this with forum friends, it turned out they felt similarly and also heard from their friends, who aren't online fans, that they were actually put off by it.
The whole purpose of putting a pause to Tejawat's track and focusing on Parud's track was because the love track needed to be built up. And along with us, the TRP audience also want to see love between the leads. But after Paro's confession promo, it was a 360 turn where Rudra marries Paro, but vows never to be hers. And if a section of viewers think it's a regular hate marriage and decide not to watch for a while...they are missing out all the beautiful scenes between Paro and Rudra and that were shown in the last few episodes. All they would know is Rudra hate-married Paro and it will be very depressing for a while. They may not know how quickly Rudra is breaking his negative vows, how his struggling to hide his caring side and how Paro is determined to win him over and saved Rudra from losing his uniform.
There could have been a promo showing Paro's promise to uphold Rudra's honor in front of the social workers or a glimpse of the beautiful rasam...or maybe a glimpse of the bedroom scenes. Parud will be attending a ball...where is the promo for that?
RR is a very intense show and until Tejawat's big reveal, it was all about Rudra trying to expose Tejawat and Paro disbelieving him. After three months of wait, love is finally blooming between Parud and once the relationship evolves, Tejawat, Thakurain, Laila etc. all will be back...and things will get dark and heavy once again.
RR is just about the baddies, the betrayals, professional and personal struggles. It is a lot more than that. It is also about Parud and their union. And promos aren't always about delivering shocks. They should also be about highlighting the beauty of the characters and the relationships. Unfortunately RR hardly has any promo, where these aspects are highlighted. Once in a while, a promo full of promise and optimism is also needed.
Anyway, TRP fluctuations happen with all shows and there are various reasons. But this could be one of the reasons why the ratings dipped slightly last week.
I think the marketing team of RR needs to rework a few strategies and I hope we get a nice, positive promo real soon.
Replies will be delayed but please carry on with the discussion.
UPDATE
This is interesting. Gautam tweeted this just a few minutes ago.
Promoting a show on air is the prerogative of the broadcaster. #Rangrasiya fans you'll have to tag @ColorsTV only. #ColorsPromoteRangrasiya
UPDATE 21st Apr
Colors, can we please get a PROMO ASAP. After tonight's episode, I am just going to say that it is a shame that there isn't a single promo for this absolutely delightful track.😒 RR is primarily a love story, if the blossoming love of the leads won't be promoted, then I seriously don't know what to say. 😕 It is nothing but a wasted opportunity.
