Why is such a lovely track not being promoted? UPDATED again

I have been meaning to make this post since the last two-three days, but didn't get enough time to sit down and right. So it's long overdue.

I just want to bring forth a much discussed issue on the forum once again - the promos of RR.

It has been eleven days since we had a promo. And it's not just the lack of promo that is troubling...but also the content and the timing. Promos have a great influence in the viewer's mind and often it's a deciding factor many. There are grossly two kinds of viewers, the ardent fans...who watch every single episode...and the other kind aren't so devoted. The TRP viewers (many, if not all) fall in the second category, as they sit down with a remote and switch channels frequently.

Unfortunately the wedding track didn't receive the expected ratings and I am sure most of us are a little upset about it, and more so, because the post wedding episodes have been lovely.

The promo we had was the wedding promo and although, it was impactful...it was rather shocking and depressing.

When the promo before that, i.e. the confession promo aired, it was positive and very intriguing and it peaked the curiosity of many people. After that, the ratings went up and people watched the episodes despite T20 world cup matches. I remember clearly that TRP had dropped slightly in the previous week but after the confession promo aired, it went up once again.

This was followed by wedding promo which was shocking and negative. It was probably needed as the wedding was a high point in the show, but it should have been followed by another promo which is light and positive.

I believe one of the main reasons the ratings last week didn't turn out as expected because people assumed it is yet another hate marriage. Things are going to be sad and gloomy for a while and a section of viewers might have decided to skip for a while. I mentioned this in one post 3 days ago, right after the TRPs came out...and at that point it was only my assumption.

But later, when I discussed this with forum friends, it turned out they felt similarly and also heard from their friends, who aren't online fans, that they were actually put off by it.

The whole purpose of putting a pause to Tejawat's track and focusing on Parud's track was because the love track needed to be built up. And along with us, the TRP audience also want to see love between the leads. But after Paro's confession promo, it was a 360 turn where Rudra marries Paro, but vows never to be hers. And if a section of viewers think it's a regular hate marriage and decide not to watch for a while...they are missing out all the beautiful scenes between Paro and Rudra and that were shown in the last few episodes. All they would know is Rudra hate-married Paro and it will be very depressing for a while. They may not know how quickly Rudra is breaking his negative vows, how his struggling to hide his caring side and how Paro is determined to win him over and saved Rudra from losing his uniform.

There could have been a promo showing Paro's promise to uphold Rudra's honor in front of the social workers or a glimpse of the beautiful rasam...or maybe a glimpse of the bedroom scenes. Parud will be attending a ball...where is the promo for that?

RR is a very intense show and until Tejawat's big reveal, it was all about Rudra trying to expose Tejawat and Paro disbelieving him. After three months of wait, love is finally blooming between Parud and once the relationship evolves, Tejawat, Thakurain, Laila etc. all will be back...and things will get dark and heavy once again.

RR is just about the baddies, the betrayals, professional and personal struggles. It is a lot more than that. It is also about Parud and their union. And promos aren't always about delivering shocks. They should also be about highlighting the beauty of the characters and the relationships. Unfortunately RR hardly has any promo, where these aspects are highlighted. Once in a while, a promo full of promise and optimism is also needed.

Anyway, TRP fluctuations happen with all shows and there are various reasons. But this could be one of the reasons why the ratings dipped slightly last week.

I think the marketing team of RR needs to rework a few strategies and I hope we get a nice, positive promo real soon.

Replies will be delayed but please carry on with the discussion.

UPDATE

This is interesting. Gautam tweeted this just a few minutes ago.

Gautam Hegde @mrhegde

Promoting a show on air is the prerogative of the broadcaster. #Rangrasiya fans you'll have to tag @ColorsTV only. #ColorsPromoteRangrasiya

UPDATE 21st Apr

Colors, can we please get a PROMO ASAP. After tonight's episode, I am just going to say that it is a shame that there isn't a single promo for this absolutely delightful track.😒 RR is primarily a love story, if the blossoming love of the leads won't be promoted, then I seriously don't know what to say. 😕 It is nothing but a wasted opportunity.

Fari: from the beginning of all RR promo's they show Rudra too negative & Dark even the latest hate marriage promo show him as the bad guy while in the show he's much much better than that. Even I was surprised when the show started of such a horrible childhood he had I felt bad for him in the actual show he's the protector, savior & the destroyer of the female lead. Rudra didn't treated Paro half as bad the way they promoted it.

They need to air more positive promo's now if they want to boost the show TRP up!

I just cannot fathom a single logical reason why this lovely track is not being promoted

I also understand the promos come under the channels preview so its the marketing team at the channels end which has taken this decision. The Ph would always be keen to make promos for their show ...

Its extremely frustrating ...

Hi Fari,

The wedding promo was a complete failure in attracting new viewers...,It showed hate, oppression, and despair...Similar theme of promoting hate, oppression and despair hasn't worked for the show in the past, and did not work this time...

For a show that gets such little exposure through promos...to waste a precious slot on a negative message was a BIG BLUNDER! A failed marketing strategy...

Everyone who has been watching RR...and does not make their impression of the show on what they show though marketing ...totally LOVES it...and can't get enough of it...Everyone I talk to ( including my own sis in India) who has not been watching RR...tells me that the impression they have is that this show is TOO NEGATIVE! They don't connect with it...and would rather watch something else...My sis watches TP, and says...she is not really hooked to TP...but would rather watch that and Beintaha...than RR...

Those of you who have read my posting on the TRP thread ...I posted about a very similar conversation I had with another friend of mine in the US...who chooses not to watch RR...despite her nanny watching it and being crazy about it...She is...like...I was thinking ...meri nanny pata nahi Kya Kya show dekhti hei...is me dekhne wala Kya hei? This Looks too much and too weird...in her words...

Regarding the lack of promos....I have no particular knowledge of what the channel is thinking...but to me it does not surprise me...If you spend money on a marketing campaign on a product in business and it gets you NO NEW CUSTOMERS! You don't spend more money on it...Harsh but true...that's how the business world works...
If I think like a channel executive...
Going forward..I would give the marketing team some time to figure out a new strategy...before airing anything...
Unless
I have written off this show as a loser...which I hope is not true...

And

If I were the production head...I would change the person who has been in charge of coming up with the promos...FOR SURE!! If I was doing it myself...I would take myself out and delegate to a person whose abilities I value but who has a very different perspective than mine about what sells...

Agree !!! If they wont promote the show, then who will ? If colors wants to see it in top show, it needs to be promoted to audiences. Many people may not know about show

While I understand that shows with good ratings get promoted more I don't get the absolute lack of promotion for the last 10..12 days!
No promo means absolutely no promotion of the show...no recap of the storyline...nothing!

It's like the show does not exist on the channel! It's not doing that badly TRP wise compared to otger shows that I see get frequently promoted and it's very popular with online viewers and seemingly abroad as well!

In fact even many Indian viewers in india who are on the forum do not get why the ratings are low!

But I really think the channel should promote the show as long as it's on air...how else will people get to know the track changes and what's happening currently...new viewers can be attracted only through promos!
