Aastha sat there watching Shlok's innocent face on her lap. "Kitna bura hua Shlok ke saath... All this shouldn't have happened with him..." thought Aastha as she moved her palm over his forehead. Confirming that Shlok was asleep, Aastha tried to lift his head from her lap and place it on the bed. But Shlok didn't allow that. "Is he still awake?" thought Aastha, surprised. His eyes were closed. Aastha just looked at him. She understood that he didn't want her to leave. "Bohot pyaar karti ho na tum mujhse?" he said, his eyes still closed. You love me very much, right? Aastha was surprised. "Aap soye nahi abhi tak? Go to sleep now... We will talk tomorrow...!" Shlok still had his eyes closed. "Tum bohot achhi ho Aastha... You are just too good!" he said. Aastha smiled. "Jaanti hoon!" she said. I know! "Ab aap so jaayiye...!" Sleep now...! Shlok opened his eyes. "I don't deserve to be your partner..." he said feeling guilty. Aastha was shocked. "Please don't say that Shlok..." pleaded Aastha, she felt bad. "I know I have troubled you a lot... I played with your emotions... I hurt you to the core..." his eyes watered as he said this. "Still, when Swati was dying there, you wanted to bring her home... just for me... for my happiness..." a tear dropped down and flowed across his temple. "Not for once did you think about yourself, your life, your wants, your happiness..." Aastha had tears in her eyes. "After all that I did to you, you still love me... How can you love me so much? How can anyone love someone so much...? How...?" He said as more tears flowed down his eyes. "I don't deserve your love... Why do you ..." Aastha placed her palm on his lips. "Shhh..." she said "Buss keejiye!! Don't say anything more... please...!!" Shlok pulled her hand away from his mouth. "Kya tum humesha mujhse itna hi pyaar karti rahogi?" asked Shlok. Will you always love me so much? Aastha wiped her eyes. "Love can never be measured... I just know that I love you and that this love will never cease...!" Shlok was about to say something when Aastha stopped him, "Enough! You must sleep now... You have fever and you need to rest...!" said Aastha forcing him to sleep. Shlok insisted "Please... I want to talk to..." "No!!" said Aastha strongly. "Not even if I say that I am feeling better talking to you...?!" asked Shlok with pleading eyes. How could Aastha deny now? Shlok's happiness was more important than anything else to her. And as far as his health was concerned, Aastha knew that nothing would happen to him till she was with him. Aastha stayed in her place. Shlok looked up at her. "Thank you so much for being there..." he said meaning every single word. "I admit that I married you for revenge... But now I think it was the best decision I ever made... I want to thank God, that he brought us together, otherwise I would never have understood what love is...!" said Shlok. Aastha just listened. "Shayad Swati ki wajah se maine pyaar karna seekha... Lekin pyaar nibhaana maine tum se seekha hai...! You have always forced me to think... Did I really love Swati? Just one misunderstanding drifted us apart. Neither Swati nor I tried to understand each other. Tumhaare aur mere beech toh humesha jhagde hote aaye hain... We both begin and end the day quarrelling with each other... But still we are together... You never let me go... I learnt from you that just love is not enough... It is trust along with love that forms the base of any relationship. Swati aur mere rishtey ki toh buniyaad hi kamzor thi... There was lack of trust between Swati and I. Even if Mrs. Agnihotri would not have said all that to Swati..." This pinched Aastha as now she knew that it was Niranjan who was responsible for all this. "Shlok..." she tried to speak, but Shlok stopped her... "Shhh... Main bol raha hoon na... You just listen...!" said Shlok and Aastha became silent. Shlok continued, "Even if Mrs. Agnihotri would not have said all that to Swati, I don't think we would have been able to stay together for long... we never tried to understand each other like you understand me... like I began understanding you unknowingly..." Aastha was glad to listen Shlok say all that. She had not expected it. Shlok was holding Aastha's hand in his as he spoke. "I had accepted that Swati left, though it was not easy... Lekin tum mujhe chhod ke chali gayi toh main bardaasht nahi kar paaunga..." his eyes watered as he looked at Aastha. Aastha smiled as a tear flowed out from the corner of her eye. "Main jaanti thi... I knew it, that's why I stayed here with you...!" she said. Shlok smiled... "Tum toh mujhe bohot achhe se jaanti ho... You know me so well...!" Aastha nodded... "Yes, I do!" Aastha wiped Shlok's tears. "Aastha..." said Shlok, "maine aaj tak jo bhi takleef di hai tumhein, uss ke liye ho sake toh mujhe maaf kar dena... Please forgive me for all the wrong I did to you...!!" Aastha was shocked. "Shlok!! Please don't say that... please...! You know that I don't like it!!" Shlok just closed his eyes for a moment. He opened them to see Aastha looking back at him. "Are you feeling sleepy?" he asked. Aastha nodded in "no". "Good!" said Shlok, "and even if you were feeling sleepy, I was not going to let you sleep... And I can keep you awake all night...! Mujhe haq hai...!!" Aastha just smiled. "Aap ko toh poora haq hai Shlok..." she thought. "And I promise I will bring back happiness in your life...! But before that, I want you to know the truth... the truth about your Aai... the truth about your Baba...!!" Shlok noticed that Aastha was lost into her thoughts. Looking at her serious face he called her, "Aastha..!" She came out of her thought. "What happened?" he asked. "Nothing" replied Aastha. But Shlok wasn't satisfied. "Aastha, I know there is something that you wish to tell me... What is it? Tell me Aastha...!" he demanded. "Not now Shlok..." said Aastha. "Will tell you later..." "But why not now?" asked Shlok now desperate to know. "Because now you should sleep...!!" said Aastha. "No..!" said Shlok, "I won't be able to sleep now untill you tell me...!! Whatever it is... I want to know it right now!!" demanded Shlok. Aastha became nervous. She looked at Shlok and asked "Do you trust me Shlok?" Shlok was confused. "Yes, I do...!" he said. "Then you must believe in whatever I tell you now!" she said. "It is not going to be easy... but trust me..." "C'mon!! Will you tell me now?!!" Shlok cut in desperately. Aastha took a deep breath. She wasn't sure of Shlok's reaction after knowing the truth. But she had to tell him one day. "Shlok..." she began, "you blame your Aai for whatever she did to you and your life... But..." Aastha paused as Shlok listened curiously. "But, whatever she did, she did it because Baba told her to do so...!!" "What?!" Shlok couldn't believe that Aastha said it. He was boiling in anger. "How dare you say that about my Baba?!!!" "Shlok... believe me... I have..." "Enough!!!" yelled Shlok. "Stop it Aastha!!!" he was very angry. "I had not expected this from you!!" He moved away from her and pushed her hand away saying, "Go away!! Just go!!" Aastha was hurt. Somewhere she knew Shlok wouldn't believe her. But still she felt bad at his reaction. "Shlok... please listen to..." "I don't want to hear another word from you!!" said Shlok as he turned away from her and pretended to sleep. Aastha got up from the bed and sat on the sofa with the blanket in her hands. She looked at Shlok's back... "Please believe me Shlok..." she thought, "what should I do so that you believe me...?"

Shlok soon fell asleep. But Aastha couldn't sleep. Shlok was upset with her. He was so upset as never before. Aastha was afraid... She did not want this to affect their relation. But that seemed impossible after seeing Shlok's reaction. Shlok was moaning in sleep. Aastha went near him. Keeping her hand over his throat, she checked whether he still had fever, but thankfully he did not. Aastha was glad. But his moans told her that he was in pain. She remembered the wound on his right arm when Aditi had shot at him. "The wound needs to be dressed..." thought Aastha. She took out the first aid box. She pulled off the blankets from Shlok's upper body and unbottoned his shirt. She needed to lift his upper body to take off the shirt. She tried but he was too heavy for her. She didn't want to wake him up. He suddenly turned to his left side. Aastha was glad. She took out his right arm from the sleeve. The white bandage had turned red with blood. Aastha felt his pain. She quickly removed the bandage and cleaned the wound with wet cotton. She applied antiseptic on the wound and wrapped it with fresh white bandage. Shlok was in sound sleep. Aastha was glad that Shlok did not wake up, else he would not have allowed her to dress the wound. Aastha went back and sat on the sofa, placing the first-aid box on her lap. Her eyes watered... "When will everything be fine...?" she thought as she stared at Shlok.
