The asset I am talking about is the lead actress Sanaya Irani- a proven talent who not only has beauty but the acting chops, charisma and screen presence to match it. She is one of the major reasons why this show got so much hype and media/fan attention when it took off. She has a huge fan following and no, it's not just because of the IF rankings but seeing first hand the reception she gets overseas. She is a very popular face among the younger audience, which I assume is RR's target audience. So it is a shame they are not taking advantage of her to help the show reach it's full potential in terms of storytelling and TRPs.
They shouldn't be surprised that the "hate marriage" ratings tanked after they used this asset as a prop the whole week. Having her react to every scene with no continuity. How are we supposed to feel her pain and tears if they don't build it up the way they do with Rudra? She went from being a sensible girl to a stubborn and clingy one to a blushing bride. She was changing as often as Rudra was having meltdowns. We were never given the opportunity to see how and why she was changing. Is she a zombie with no feelings? How can she be fine with marrying a guy who was willing to do anything to get rid of her, who called her shameless, who vows to never care for her? I'm sure she is not fine but they will never let us get that insight on her. Sanaya's portrayal of Paro in the initial episodes was so emotional and heartbreaking. We all know she can emote beautifully and get us to feel her pain so don't even try to suggest otherwise.
I just hope they realize it is not going to work if she turns into a supporting cast member who takes a backseat to Rudra's story. It is absolutely necessary for the audience to relate to the female lead. For me, that connection was lost after the maha episode. After that, I haven't been able to enjoy any episode to the fullest. I'm sorry but I don't want to "understand" Paro by coming to this forum and reading the in-depth posts analyzing her. I appreciate the effort but that is the job of the writers. They were doing fine in the beginning when there was more balance so hopefully they can rectify their mistakes. Chill out with the overdose of Rudra and focus on building Paro because this is supposed to be PaRud's story and we need to be able to relate to both of them to enjoy their love story. Otherwise, you will face the danger of losing your niche audience too.
I will conclude by saying that I have been at this place long enough to know how it works. That is why I am apprehensive about sharing how I truly feel. There are a few of us who are just honest viewers of the show, giving feedback because we want the best for this show so that it can reach its potential. There are some who live in a bubble and refuse to be objective or real about the flaws of the show because they want to counteract the other group who are always hanging around, waiting to just jump in and criticize the show (mainly the female lead) because they happen to have some sort of a personal grudge against her. It's a vicious cycle of never-ending drama and I have enough problems in my real life to get worked up over this. So I won't talk about it again until I see a change. This is my last plea to the writers. Convince me that this really is a love-hate story between TWO characters. Or maybe I should accept the fact that the writers of this show simply can't understand or capture the thoughts, feelings and complexity of women. I don't know why I still go into these shows expecting a difference.
P.S. I was going to post this in NB's thread but it was closed on her request, which is a shame because her post was so wonderfully stated.
