Part 45:
Sameer and his team were called in for a quick meeting by the head of department. They needed to plan quickly. The demands of the men who captured the people were outragious. As usual they had asked for a leader of a notorious gang to be liberated. Along with that they wished for a quick escape route too.
The teams decided onto have an organized escape plan. As Arjun was inside the hotel, as long as his identity remain hidden it will be fine. Once the men get to know about it, then it will tough. And his baba was also inside the hotel. There was no way to contact them. The mobile was switched off.
The team decided to join with the commandos in the rescue mission.
Inside the hotel:
Arjun was observing each of the men. They had mask over the face, so was not visible. They had jackets thay had covered the guns when they walked in. They didn't have huge guns, but looked well prepared. Arjun had seen some 5-6 of them. He was not sure if there were more of them.
Two were stationed near to the front door, and also watching the live relay in the news channel. Two men walked to the back of the cafeteria and also to check the rooms. Two were watching the hostages. One man walked in to have a look at the rooms in the rear end, so that left one man.
Arjun was planning everything slowly. Once he got a chance, he slowly started to slide away from his seating position. But his baba held him back. He saw the worry on his face. Arjun just placed his hand on baba and assured him and walked away.
When a best chance was obtained, he overpowered the man. He looked around; there was common people and kids watching him frightened. But time was low. He pushed the man to a corner where he was not visible to them and twisted the man's neck. He removed that man's jacket and also the mask and then carried him to the hostages.he made him lean onto the wall and in such a way that his fce was not visible.
A kid was watching all this. Arjun saw that kid's worried face. He must be of Adi's age. Arjun patted the kid and smiled. "hi, I am from police. Daro math. Ye admi bas behosh hai. ab isse daro math.ok?"
The kid nodded yes. Arjun put on that mask and jacket and also took the man's gun and mobile. He put on the earphone just like the other man. He knew it was not safe to call using the mobile and so decided to message.
He typed in quick. Sameer who was outside the hotel by then received it.
Sam called in the team and read it out. "guys. Message from Rawte. Sam, 5-6 men. 1 down. 2 in front, 2-3 out. Sree loop camera feed and put it live.sending phone numbers. Track it. Hostages safe for now. less time.be quick. Arjun'"
He got some numbers that were saved in the mobile that he got. Sree started his work. Before any commando could move in, Sree and Sakshi made sure the media was showing what he decided to show. The media was happy to help.
The man came to look out for the hostages. He passed by Arjun. Maybe he noticed something different in his friend. Arjun saw him walking towards him. He knew something was going to happen. The man came to him. He looked hard; yes he did notice the difference. Before he could strike, Arjun tried to have an upper hand. The almost fight did frighten the hostages. And out of no where, the man tried to shoot Arjun. But he ducked and the bullet grazed the upper arm of a hostage man. The shot was enough to alert the other men and also commandos. They were already taking positions. With Sam and other head permission, the men entered the hotel.
The men were quick in action. Even after the planning, the men who tried to take a hotel hostage were not good enough. It was not that tough to take the situation to control. 2 more men were killed, so got 3 men arrested.
1 or 2 civilains were hurt. Some where in shock due to the happenings. Paramedics were on spot.
The people were escorted out. Arjun and Sam moved to baba, who were seated shocked. He had never seen such an action. He had seen how Arjun and his men were helping to save the people. It was indeed a revalation to him. At a moment, he thought Arjun's life was in danger, but his son was quick. And now it seems over. People were taken out. But he couldn't even stand up. He felt frozen.
He saw Arjun shaking him, "baba... can you hear me? Baba??"
He saw Arjun and Sameer looking at him conserned. He nods yes. He felt Arjun helping him to his feet. Arjun's hand was held firm to his elbows.
"its over. You are safe. lets go?"
He nods yes, but then looks at Arjun. He felt suffocation and he don't know what came upto him. Arjun felt Baba hugging him tight. He was confused and looks up to Sam, who nods yes. Arjun pats baba's back. He felt Baba holding him tight on the shoulder. He was breathing heavy and panting. "Arjun..." the voice was choked.
Memories of earlier times were flooding in. He too hugged his baba tight. But soon he felt the strength going down from his baba's side. So he looked up, his baba had almost fainted. He was cool and sweating. Sam too supported him.Aisha came and looked the pulse. "sir, maybe BP bhad gaya hai"
Sam calls for paramedics and takes baba out in a strecture. Sam could see Arjun was visibly shaken by the turn of events. He looked as if he needed help to decide what to do. He asks Arjun to go with Baba.
Here at home, Adi was in front of TV. When he changed the channel, he saw Sameer's face in the tv and so he pauses on that news channel. "Dadi... Sam uncle TV me hai!!"
He calls in for Dadi's attention. They saw Sam giving details of the hostage issue. And when a voice over came up about the casuality, they saw a few men taken care by paramedics. Another frames showed Arjun accompanying a strecture to the ambulance. Dadi froze when she saw the person's face. Adi too saw Dadaji's face and also Arjun getting to the ambulance with him.
Dadi called Sameer quickly and asked about the matter and hospital name. On getting the information, Adi and Dadi take a cab and leaves quickly to the hospital.
In the hospital, Arjun was waiting in the corridor. None of the hostages were seriously injured. Only minor cuts and shocks were present. He was worried for his baba.
Soon a doctor came out. "fikar karne ke koi bath nahi hai. bas thode shock me the. BP bhi bhad gaya tha. Ab behosh hai, but he will be fine."
Arjun exhaled relaxed. "patient aapke...?"
"he is my father."
"ohk... you may meet him now."
Doc goes away and Arjun stands by the door for a while. After sometime he sits on a chair besides his bed and watches him. The moment when Baba had hugged him, it was truly great. Even though there was bitterness at his heart, but still he could feel warmth towards his baba. And when he fell to his arms, it was tough. He didn't know what to do. Thanks to Sam who helped him out, else he would have just stood frozen.
He sat for a long time, with his eyes just fixed on his baba. But later he felt a hand on his shoulder that brought him out of the trance. Aayi was by his side with Adi.
He stood up to meet her eyes. He didn't know what to say. Her eyes showed relief and also fear. "he is fine. doctor ne kaha hai"
She nods yes. "par aap hotel me...?"
"hum aaj milne wale the. par..."
Now she gets why he was upset past few days. But did they talk? And about what? Before she could ask, they saw baba stirring up. Arjun looked back at Aayi and walks out to the corridor. When baba opened his eyes, he saw Aayi and Adi by his side. He saw the usual caring and concerned face of hers. And he knew that nothing had changed much in the past few days. Adi moved closer to him. "are you alright?doctor ko bulau?"
"no Adi. I am fine." He tries to sit up and Aayi helps him. She knew he wanted to talk, but she was not sure about what. "Gayathri, I am sorry."
She was surprised. "I am sorry, ke meine apse wo sab kuch cheena jiske aap haqdar the. apke khushi, pariwar, Arjun.. sab kuch. Wo sab ab mien wapas nahi de paunga. But I am sincerely sorry."
"please... apko aram ke zaroorath hai. tho please..."
"nahi Gayathri. Aaj kehne do. I am sure tum mujhe jaldi maaf nahi kar paoge. Akhir bohot saal ke dard jo hai. Firbhi I am waiting for that day when you will forgive me."
"mere maafi se kuch nahi hoga Surya." Rawte was happy to hear that. Only she used to call him so in their earlier days. "bath Arjun ke hai. Agar uske zakm bharne thak wait kar sakthe ho, aur agar wo apko maaf kar pau, tho mujhe bhi koi problem nahi hai. Pehle bhi aur aaj bhi, I just wanted one thing. My family. Agar sab sath ho, tho mujhe koi problem nahi hai. Jo hua usse bhool sakthi hu. Par wo sirf Arjun ke khushi ke baad hogi."
"Mujhe patha hai. Aur mien usse maafi mangne ko hi bulaya tha. Par kehne ka mauka nai mila. Kaha hai wo? I want to speak to him"
"usse bath karna asaan nahi hai Surya. You know it well."
"I know. And still I will try."
"ok..." she gets up and takes Adi's hand. "chalo Adi. (to Rawte) apne khayal rakhna..."
He nods and they walk out of the room. Arjun was on a chair and waiting for Aayi. She sat by his side. "wo aapse milna chahthe hai Arjun"
He doesn't say anything. She keeps her hand on his palm. "jaake milo Arjun. isliye nahi kyunki unhone kaha hai. par isliye ki, mujhe patha hai, apko unse milna hai. kyu apne dil ke bath chupa rahe ho? I can see it in your eyes. Wo sara gussa, ab nahi dikh raha, I can see something else. Meet him Arjun and speak to him"
He sits silent for a while and then nods yes. He took his time and walks in to the room. He could see baba was expecting him. He stood in the way and then moved to the bed. Baba looks for some change in Arjun. He knew it was a tough time for both. He indicates Arjun to sit by his side. Arjun does so, but facing sideways to him.
Baba exhaled to compose himself.
"Jantha hu. Maafi mangna tough hai. Aadat bhi kam hai. Par fir bhi... hosake tho mujhe maaf kar dena Arjun." he doesn't look back at Baba.
"aapko apne ghar se dur kar diya. Apne pariwar se dur. Socha tha, ke wo sab wapas pane keliye aap jaldi ghar ajaoge. Apne IPS ke zidd chod doge. Par ye bhol gaya ke aap bhi ek Rawte ho. zidd karna tho hum dono ke khoon me hai. issi bhool se sab kuch suru hua. Aapko akela kar diya. Aapke shaadi, Adi ke aana... sab kuch me apke sath nahi raha. Aur jab apko hamare sabse zyada zaroorath tha, thab bhi akela chod diya. Mafi ke layak nahi hu... par ab... mere pas aur kuch nahi hai Arjun. thak gaya hu akele. Isse fise mere selfishness hi kehdo... ya kuch aur. I want you back Arjun. I want my family back."
Arjun now faces Baba. To cry was not usual for the Rawtes. So both didn't have any tears. But anyone who knew them well, would say that they were in verge of tears.
"mujhe maaf kardo Arjun. abhi issi waqt nahi, tho time lelo. Par maaf zaroor kardo. Please..."
"baba... ye aap..."
"bohot dino baad aaj hotel me tumhe aise pukaarke suna. Thab patha chala... how much had I missed hearing it. I have missed everything about you. But I want to see it in Adi. Mien sabkuch chodke ane ko ready hu. Just tell me... will you forgive me?"
Arjun sat hearing it. He was elated and at the same time pained.
"please maafi math mangiye. Galthi mere side me bhi hai. meine bhi..."
"galthiyan ginoge tho uskeliye hi time bachaga... why don't we start fresh Arjun? please give me this chance."
"I need some time. Can you give me?"
That had a silver lining in the darkness. Baba nodded yes with a smile. They sat facing each other for some more time. Sam's call did break it. It was duty calls. Baba asked him to go forward. Without saying much he walked out of the room.
In the corridor Adi and Aayi were waiting for him. He said he was going back to office. But something told that everything was going to change soon. Aayi was feeling it in the air.
Weeks later, Rawte was in a function hall. He was talking to some men who had come to attend the grand function. Arjun walked to him and introduced him to Raghu Sir and Coehlo.
In the other side, Aayi was helping Aisha's mom.Sakshi's mom was also there. She was looking out for Sakshi who was missing for a while. But the bacha party knew that there was a good hangout point on the terrace where she was with Rishab. Their roka was to happen in few weeks.
Arjun and Sree helped Sam to get to his sherwani. After all, it was his shaadi. The Chief was getting married today.
Adi was with Pari, of course. Now all knew about their friendship. They fought a lot and even pulled each others legs. But they were a good Jodi for all the mischief. And when joined with Sree and Chotu, there were just awesome.
Adi met Rishab, when Chotu introduced him as Sakshi aunty's would be.
"aap aunty se shaadi karne wale ho?" he nods yes. Adi looks in deep thoughts. "koi problem hai?" Rishab was amused with the kid.
"ek tip detha hu. Unhe park me math lejaana. Bohot ladthi hai. esp ice cream keliye. Mere sath bhi ladi thi."
"acha?? Thab tho me fas hi gaye!!" he exclaimed.
"yeah... almost. Anyway all the best"
He ran away. When Rishab told this to Sakshi, she was about to run to Adi.but Rishab caught her back. "bas bas... wo bache ne sach hi tho kaha hai. kaha fas gaya me... hey bhagwan!!" for which he gets a good kick.
The Shaadi begins on its auspicious time. Aisha was bright down to the mandap in the bridal attire. He looked perfect with Sam. The rituals were carried on. Arjun stood as the best man for Sam.
Rawte was with Gayathri when the function began. As the rituals progressed, she saw him in deep thoughts. After the meeting in the hospital, loads did happen. Her wish of happy family was now fulfilled. "kya hua? Aap kya soch rahe ho?"
"hum dono ne bohot kuch miss kar diya hai na... Arjun ke khushi... sirf mere zidd ke wajah se?"
"ab wo sab math sochiye. Jo hua, so hua... Par mujhe abhi bhi fikar hai... ab aage... Arjun akele...?"
"usse waqt do Gayathri. Waqt ke sath bohot kuch badal saktha hai. ye meine meri zindagi se seekh liya hai. ek din ayega... jab Arjun ko bhi uske hisse ka khushi milega..."
She silently prayed for it to be so. The saw Sam and Aisha taking the feras and all showered them with flowers and blessings.

Years passed... days were special.
Some days were happy and some were not. Sometimes, some missed one another, and other times, they were together.
Many things happened all these year. And today was yet another special night.
Its another summer vacation. A vacation like this brought Adi back home. The one vacation that changed many relationships for once and all. Many new relation started, and many eneded.
And tonight was very very special.Arjun smiled. He was pacing up and down silently in the center hall of his home for past 5 minutes.
His Adi was turning 20 tonight.
The longer hand of the clock was almost reaching 12. He walked to Adi's room. Before he could knock, the door opened.
He saw his own younger version standing in front of him with a toothy smile.
"don't be shocked. I knew it. Har saal ke tharah aap hi mujhe first wish karoge. Right?"
Arjun nodded yes and opened his arms. Adi came swiftly to his arms. Now he needn't bend down to hug his boy. Adi was almost as tall as him, with physical features resembling mostly him.
"happy birthday Adi!!"
He hugged him tight. "thanks dad."
They broke the hug. "so,birthday boy!! Whats your wish?"
Adi acts to think hard. "abhi kuch khas nahi. Sabere bathaunga."
"ok..."
Adi breaths in now. The eyes closed in content. Smell of freshly baked chocolate cake with chocolate topping fills the air. "WOW!!!"
Arjun smiles. Something never change even he grows up. "Chal!!"
They walk to the hall, with Arjun placing his arm around Adi's shoulder.
And there she came. Clad in a smiple salwar, hair tied in a low pony. She held a cake with a candle on top. And to give a finishing touch, a smile and twinkling eyes. "happy birthday Adi"
She kept the cake on the table and winked at him.
"Thanks sweetheart!!" for which Adi gets a knock behind his head from his dad. "ouch dad!!" he rubs it and walks towards her and side hugs her. "ok... for a change... thanks Mom!!"
She smiled at him and then turned to hug him.
Arjun saw it from his place, happy and content. Yes, his one decision a few years back did bring loads of changesin their lives. She looked upto him and nodded assuring his thoughts.
