Is Ranbir really that great?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this "iconic" status that is given to him is kind of going too far?

I found his acting in Rockstar to be average...YJHD was alright nothing great there, and no comments on Besharam.

Okay Barfi was good, but one Barfi does not make you better than SRK, Salman, Hrithik, Aamir. I found it amusing and shocking that some people would come on KWK and rank him higher than the Khans 😕 There is no way he is more popular than them and there is no way he is more talented. Ok maybe he is a better actor than Salman...but I don't think he is in a position to be ranked higher than them 😕

I am not saying Ranbir is a bad actor or whatever, but he isn't that great. Its too soon to throw all these titles at him, especially considering that his Besharam movie tanked badly and other young actors movies are doing better at the movies where box office is concerned.

It just seems to me that everyone in the media and industry is trying really hard to make him this huge huge star because of nepotismm or whatever reason and the fact that he's a Kapoor obviously helps. I dunno I just think he's a bit overrated. and KWK makes its worse 🤢

Ranbir is sure a lot better actor in this newer lot, in Rajneeti I loved his character and he managed to held on his own with the bigwigs of acting in that movie.

I agree!
I never understood the hype around him. He was very good in Barfi, but Priyanka ruled the movie, but he is versatile with his roles.Either way he is overrated.

*Edited
Just wanted to add that I do think he's a good actor or atleast better than most of the newer lot.

Ranbir is phenomenal actor and I think he's on a different league when it comes to the newbies but comparing him to stardom of the Khans and Hrithik is wrong, Heck even Hrithik shouldn't be compared to the Khans we are talking about guys who ruled the industry for 20+ years and still ruling, Nothing can be compared to their stardom.

If you forget all the hype and publicity and controversies around Ranbir and view him as a stand-alone actor, I am guessing most people would acknowledge or atleast realize that he is a truly gifted actor...perhaps the best in this generation.
The problem with Ranbir is that there is far too much focus on his personal life, which (unfairly) takes away the spotlight from him as an actor.
I wouldn't call him great as of now...but the work he has done in just 6 years is pretty impressive by any standards. There are actors who spend an entire career but can't manage to give one memorable performance and Ranbir already has films like Barfi, Raajneeti, Rocket Singh (such a vastly underated performance and film) WUS and Rockstar on his resume.
What I like best about him is that he takes risks with his choice of films...he tries on different subjects and characters, without bothering about the commercial implication. In his position, Ranbir can choose safer projects and have only 'hits' on his resume, but he doesn't limit himself to KJo type of candy floss.
I do agree that the industry hypes him too much, but that only harms his prospects, rather than help him. People tend to take him less seriously as a performer and focus more on his 'Kapoor' surname and his association with KJo and Katrina and Deepika.
But IMO, I see him as one of the future superstars of Bollywood...the kinds who will last a very long time and the kinds who will be known for his acting rather than his stardom.

I think this is the first time we agree with each other. So true bang on I agree with you.
He's not better than khans or HR, yes I know salman and Shahrukh are making bad choices with movie lately but that doesn't mean that ranbir is better actor than them. All three khans and Hrithik are way ahead than him,

All three khans have done different roles through out their career. And they were amazing in each and every role. All three of them and Hrithik are way ahead of him in acting as well as star power. So it's unfair to even include him in that list. Ruling for 25 plus is not easy yet all three of them did that and are still doing that. Their star power, popularity, fame is unmatchable.

Just few bad choices don't make ranbir more than them.

They are still ahead of him by miles.

Agree with you I never understood rockstar. It was a very overrated movie and same with rajneeti. I only liked his barfi but priyanka did better job than him in that too. YJHD was entertainer. His role was nothing great

I've said it before...barring Amitabh Bachchan he's the best mainstream actor in Bollywood right now. Nobody is even close, not even Aamir, and I'm an Aamir fan.

He's such a natural, extremely versatile but most importantly is willing to experiment in every genre and put it on the line every-time. How many youngsters would play a Sardar in their 3rd-4th film, play a mute and deaf character so early in their career and then try the dreaded OTT Masala genre soon after.

Ranbir deserves everything he's getting. The praise, the awards, the stardom. When Aamir Khan says, he could learn from you, you've done something right.

Their Ranking Their Wish
Invite yourself to KWK and rank them as you wish 😳

And you want an acting list based on stardom and popularity? Cant justify Katrina's ranking then 😛

And which young actor is doing better than him?
Ranveer with his one hit? Or Varun with a 5 cr opening? 🥱

I don't think the OP is belittling his acting, to me honestly he's better actor than Salman, SRK, Hrithik and Aamir I even made a topic comparing him to Aamir. Ranbir comes off so natural which Aamir doesn't, he always looks rehearsed. But as far as stardom is concerned you've gotta admit he's no where near the Khans and Hrithik!
