Why can't bollywood make new stars?

Bollywood has made only 2 big stars who have the capacity to fill the seats since 2000. Hritik and Ranbir. And now to some extent Ranveer.
Other actors still need strong support if they are going on their own like a big director, movie based on popular book/ event, word of mouth, extra ordinary songs, etc.

We still have to rely on the Khans and all are nearing to 50. I don't know how long will they accept Aamir Khan playing a college student, or Salman Khan playing a young police officer.

If you see hollywood, they are able to create so many stars. Their 50 year old guys play roles suitable to them and the younger guys play the college kid roles and so on.

I think its time they should stop getting talentless people like Sid because they have good body. Also stop signing boring actors like Arjun Kapoor, Imran Khan because they are related to bollywood families. Its time to go out there and get some real talent which people will like.

Bollywood doesn't make new stars, people make themselves star, and audience makes them star. And then not everyone can be a star, one just need not to be an actor but also a person with brains and strategies. Somehow Khans have maintained their status because they all know what audience want, can change themselves according to time and all three do have their own plan in the game. None other star or actor is still here with these qualities, so there is no one else.

People are obsessed with almost 50 Khans, Kumar & Devgn, not easy for young gen break the monopoly nd drive audiences to theaters , they'll have to rely on good scripts, buzz, PH, & WOM which in a way is a good thing, cos this will make them choose better films and evolve as actors rather then bcome stars overnight ...

Most lack enough talent and charisma. The likes of Shahid, AB jr have been here for 10+ years and still haven't given a clean hit in ages. Shahid gave 7 flops and two average movies after JWM. Got a semi hit in RR after 6 years and 9 movies. God knows when was the last time Ab Jr gave a solo hit. Imran also seemed to have fizzled out.

Hollywood has new stars because they do OPEN casting that are Open for actors. So all these budding actors can go for auditions.
Bollywood does not seem to do OPEN casting but CLOSED casting. They keep it all within the
Bollywood fraternity mostly offering roles to actors already in the industry. Thus not many new stars.

Sometimes makes me wonder what trained actors from acting schools are doing because not many are invited to these casting auditions for films.

May also be why acting in Bollywood at times is of such a low standard, because many are not professionally trained actors but have to learn on the job. .

Seem like everyone is related to someone uncles, aunties, nephews, third half cousin.

very very good post. Pretty spot on.

I know a person, he belongs to a very rich family. He weighed about 115kgs in his teens. Started loosing weight, in 3 years got a body to die for. Everybody started commenting that he now looks very good. Got interested in acting. Went to some acting school, couple of courses abroad as well. Struggled for 7years in bollywood without even getting one small role. His father was supporting him throughout. Now he is in 30s I guess, back home and joined his dad's business.

He was rich and had backup. What about others who comes to bollywood selling their houses or taking big loans. Very very high risk industry.

Casting is not professional like in HW and Independent films doesn't do well. You basically need the support of big studios to work with talented directors/script writers. So its hard to get a role without any connections.

America is a melting pot and Hollywood is a reflection of it. Thus we have White, Black, Hispanic, Asian and people from different countries try to make it. Though it is not as fair a distribution among ethnicities, it is definitely more diverse than BW. It is the world's movie industry though it belongs to America.
BW is Indian movie industry that has a global presence. Can you imagine someone like Lupita N'yongo or Halle Berry who are gorgeous making it in BW? You need to be gori and dye your hair to be even considered heroine material.

We need diversity, a stronger parallel cinema, audience who will have the reaction of the American public when Will Smith tried to use his star power to make his kids superstars and the idea that talent is not genetic. America is a country that prizes individual achievements, not family heritage. India is a country with a strong caste system that very much favors family over talent, BW is only a reflection of that.

BINGO...

This is it...somehow the Khans are always berated for their age ...but what people forget is that these Khans have changed themselves according to the audiences liking...they know the pulse of their audience...it is not easy to ne on top of the game for 25 years...so kudos to all 3 of them...and instead of bashing and whining about the success of the almost 50 year old Khans...people need to take a minute to analyze that their success is not a fluke...neither is it luck..because flukes and luck doesn't last for 25 years...it is giving in to the demands of their audience and sheer hard work...⭐️
