Exactly. And its not as if there aren't any stars, but dominating industry for so long...obviously they do have something special. Otherwise there are many abcd khans too who are flop. It's not as if only "Khan" surname works for them...!! Closely analyze the three Khans and one can understand why these three have been able to work in this industry for so long. Aamir and Salman, both were good looking fellows with a background, but along the time, both developed into different actors...and it worked successfully for them. Aamir has turned himself into an actor who'll be successful for many more years, and probably one or two decades too. Salman may still do some comedy movies along with other stars too, and can work. And about SRK too, he does have a lot of time in BW...he understands BW, taste of audience and can try anything. And honestly I still don't think anyone else is still here who can replace them.

Saying that Hollywood creates new stars at a quicker rate than Bollywood is wrong and quite ignorant.

The highest paid and the most recognizable stars in Holywood, the Tom Cruise's ,The George Clooney's, the Brad Pitts, The Robery Downey Jr's, The Will Smiths are all in their mid 40's just like in Bollywood.

You need time to become a star. The only difference in Hollywood is that women still have roles written for them in their 40's, big budget films produced for them.

The star system is no different.

I'm starting to think it's better to be a Flop actor in BW than considered a superstar .. Never understood the system.

The reason why newbies are being taken in so many projects by reputed directors is BCOS Bolywood wants to make new stars... they know that they can't sit waiting for the Khans, Ajay, Akki, HR for every film.. so many films are being made in the industry and the older lot of Imran, Abhishek, John has kinda fizzled out, BW knows new stars are required, that is why almost every production house is casting newbies and has a talent management team. Most of them have done just 1-2 movies, but all of them have promising projects, give them some time, they will build their own fanbase soon and then fill seats.

Its the movies that Re made and audience that are catered too. Unlike hw, bw does not monopolise entire movie goere attention. In regional movies u can have good movies where talent is given a chance.
Therefore bw does not feel the need to open up more since its tried and testes formula work for Target audience.

I've known quite a number of established people in Bollywood and from my understanding its not that Bollywood cant make any new stars or that the audience doesn't want new stars.
to allow newer talent. A lot of the popular stars dont allow such opportunities to slip from there and they tend to hog the limelight. What I mean is, most of the top banners, only stick to certain stars.

There was a time where KJO/YRF stuck to SRK only, and even other banners who have their
I feel there is a certain unwillingness of some of the top actors to allow or even let go of their positions. There is a lot of politics that happen in Bollywood in terms of who works with who and who gets the best movies. Not to take away from any of their stardom, but I think if the best movies are going to the most "popular" actors, then its very hard for new talent to emerge.

But now things have changed. The Khans look old now and cant work with most actresses. Can we really see Alia, Shraddha or Parineeti work with SRK? Salman? Aamir?...It just looks wrong.

I think now the new filmmakers are lot smarter and are willing to take risks. That's why we have a whole new lot of new talent that has emerged into the industry. That's why people like Farhan And Ranbir have been winning Best actor awards...The awards were hogged by SRK/Hrithik/Amitabh from 2000-2011 (minus the one year Aamir won)...so I think things are changing, and hopefully for the better.

Sometimes makes me wonder what trained actors from acting schools are doing because not many are invited to these casting auditions for films.

May also be why acting in Bollywood at times is of such a low standard, because many are not professionally trained actors but have to learn on the job. .

Seem like everyone is related to someone uncles, aunties, nephews, third half cousin.

Exactly! Nothing can flourish till open competition is allowed. The time when the Khans started out was probably the last era when outsiders were welcomed into BW. Today BW is a mafia out to convince only those related to someone can act, look good etc etc. This charade fade away when films open at the BO.
