There's is a major back story to Mohini and Dilsher so maybe Mohini created that misunderstanding that Dilsher loves Mohini. Because if you remember when Mala came sneaking around the Haveil during the wedding she saw Mohini and said expressed her thoughts to the audiance saying so is sorry not to be able to meet her. Therefore she's not holding any grudges against Mohini, who she still sees dearly as a sister.

So overall I put my bets on Mohini being the reason/causing Mala to leave.

Hi Zara,

This is the most convincing story for Reason behind Mala leaving sounded apt for her character. But Mohini knows Danveer as devarsa. Which means she knows that mohini is married to Danveer. So why would she think her leaving would help mohini and Dilsher have a life they want? Could she still be thinking him has devarasa as dilsher's brother or devarsa as mohini's hubby?

Though it's confusing, I like your version to this back story. Let's see if CVs also are on the same thought.
