so glad! I recently fractured my fingers so I've been kind of handicapped in terms of typing. I hope to get back to writing soon! Sorry about that!woo this s very different ... v excited cant wait to read it
I stirred slightly under the covers. I kept shifting from left to right, trying to find the right spot to snuggle in, deep into the comforts of my queen sized bed. Realizing I wasn't really finding one, I slowly fluttered my eyes open, a faint smile playing on my lips. A ray of sunlight hit my face, causing me to squint my eyes and bring my hand up to my face in annoyance from the bright sunlight blinding my eyes.
I dragged my feet groggily off my bed and rubbed my fingers onto my eyes in circular motions in an effort to get my morning tiredness out the door. I made a few steps toward my window, and rested my arms on the window sill, admiring the sunrise before me. The way the yellow colour blended into the orange, it was a beautiful sight to say the least. I opened my window slightly, before once again resting my hands on the window sill, my hair slightly blowing in the air from the fresh fall breeze of the wind coming through the open window.
"A new sunrise, a new morning, a new day, a new school." I said as I felt the light breeze gently brush my face. "You ready Rachna? New adventures await today." I told myself, always looking at the bright side of things.
I walked away from the window sill and started to get ready. I decided to look somewhat cute today, after all first impressions are everything on the first day of school. I knew that by now, moving to at least 10 different schools in the past 19 years of my life. Even daycare. Yep, I'm 19 years old, and boy does our family love moving around. But this time, we've managed to stay in one place for longer than usual. I've been staying in our homely house since I was 9, and life had been blissful, being blessed by the best family i could've ever had hoped for, even if our whole family only consisted of my slightly overprotective mom when it came to boys, my awesome dad, and of course my sweet younger brother Aman. i just hope that we never leave this place, or anytime soon for that matter. Maybe at least just finish my high school graduation in one school. That's all I'm asking. What? Blame a girl for wanting to make meaningful friends for once, I'm guilty.
Soon enough, I got ready and walked down the maroon coloured hardwood floored stairs happily, gliding my hand down the matching hardwood railing as I gracefully walked down.
I saw my Dad at the stove in the kitchen flipping some pancakes. I casually walked up to the kitchen island in the center of the kitchen, and picked up an apple. "Good morning Dad, " i said with a smile on my face.
"Morning sweetheart." "Ready already?" He slightly chuckled, as if I'm not someone to get ready all that fast or this early. I looked at him in disbelief. "What? It's already.." I glanced over to the small clock that was hanging up above a kitchen cabinet across from me, "7." "Ok maybe it is a bit earlier than usual."
"Someone's excited for their first day of school," he said in a teasing but sweet manner. "Oh and bud you might wanna save that apple for your lunch later on. I mighttt have forgotten to get some school grocery shopping done for you kids." He said with a guilty look on his face, one that was filled with innocence. Honestly, I don't blame him. I mean, he has to handle the jewellery store we own, and on top of that, all that real estate stuff he does on the side, the guy's bound to be forgetful. A lot of the times, I think my dad isn't really like my dad at all. More like a best friend who's always there for me at any time of the day, no matter what the situation is. In fact, he Is my best friend, in every way. I even talk about my guy drama with him!
I was so into thinking about how close me and my dad were that I hadn't realized how I had zoned out and tuned out what my dad was saying to me.
"Hello? Earth to Rachna?" He made a slight gentle knock with his hard knuckles on my head. "Anybody there?"
I came back to my surroundings. The fresh aroma from my dad's awesome pancakes filled my nostrils. Best. Pancakes. Ever. "Huh?" "Oh yea dad I'm listening. What did you say?"
"I saiiid, That, or you can take a chance at that cafeteria food those people serve at lunch. I heard that stuff is gruesome." He formed his face into a disgusted manner and slightly shuddered in discomfort.
I chuckled and let out a light-hearted laugh. "You got that right."
There was a peaceful silence between us, only the aroma and the sizzling of the pancakes on the fry-pan that was on the stove being the only thing that was heard.
I decided to go sit at the dining table and play with my phone for a bit.
As I was playing temple run 2 on my iPhone 5, my nostrils were filled with the scent and aroma of fresh pancakes, and suddenly saw a plate nicely decorated of pancakes, with strawberries on them, and of course to top it off drizzled Nutella all over the pancakes.
"May I present your favorite pancakes with strawberries and drizzled Nutella." My father said to me as he lay the plate on the granite countertop table.
My face lit up like a child's face does on Christmas Day after seeing all the various Christmas presents in different sizes, shapes, and wrappings under the green Christmas tree decorated with beautiful ornaments.
My father always made this special breakfast each time it was a special day, whether it be a dance competition, a piano recital, a badminton tournament, or, in this case, the first day of school. Yep, my daddy is the bestest.
I immediately and in a feisty manner grabbed the spoon and gulped down the delicious and delightful pancakes before me in a flourish. Yep, still the best pancakes ever made by the best dad ever.
I finally arrived at the front gates of the school. Only word was filling my mind at the moment: WHOA. Is this a school or a freaking boarding school?
I entered the doors, and looked around to see the halls crowded with strangers. I was so in-awe, it was a school like no other. It was so... big. And crowded. I mean, I've always been to private schools with about probably 20 kids in one grade. But this? There's like 5000 kids here! It's just like in those High School Musical movies! And can you believe it? There were ACTUALLY cliques.
My eyes wandered up, down, left, right, - all around - as she took in her fervent surroundings. My awe-stricken eyes however snapped closed tight upon feeling my body suddenly colliding with a hard wall, like a water balloon against a brick wall.
"Oof!" I staggered back a few steps, regaining my posture from the collision. I rubbed my head in slight pain and slowly opened my eyes to find that the wall I collided with was someone's back. Ugh. That hurt.
"Oh my gosh, I am so - " we both said at the same time. The stranger turned around to face me, and instantly stopped midway his sentence. I looked up to see a boy looking down at me, his lips slightly apart.
Well. This is awkward. I broke the tension first. "Uhm, sorry bout that. I should've been walking where I was watching."
He looked at me in a slightly quizzical manner.
Stupid Rachna! "I - I mean, watching where I was going," I instantly corrected myself. "Heh."
"It's cool." He said as he bent down and picked up my clipboard with my class schedule on it from the ground. "Ms. Garg. Nice name."
"Thanks," I managed to play it cool. "And you're.." I trailed off.
"Oh, my bad. I'm Kabir."
"Hi, Kabir." I said with a smile.
OKAY I'M GONNA STOP THERE. Let me know what you think! :) Excuse the horrible writing skills. I wrote, re-rewrote, and edited, but it's still so crappy to me. I do hope you enjoyed the read tho! Leave a review! :)
