Part 8
The room was enveloped in darkness as a man stood near a window, gazing out.
The men standing behind him can only see the silhouette of him, one hand on the window panel and the other in his pocket of black kurta.
"Where is Arnav?" the voice was like a cold gust of wind in the dark room.
All men stood there, contemplating on who will answer. But terrified of the outcome of not answering the man, who stood in front of them, one man from the group answered.
"We...we don't know, Bhai. He isn't reporting from few days nor picking up our calls. " the man replied to his Boss, who was not much pleased by this piece of information.
"Where can we find him?" Shyam Manohar Jha asked.
Shyam Manohar Jha! The name itself was capable of intimidating not only the common men, who know the iniquity of this man but even the jet set. He was the head of the ruling mafia in Delhi, and half of his life was spent in bloodshed, sometimes caused by him and sometimes by his men. Men- Men whom he picks so cautiously. And Arnav Singh Raizada, one of his best men was missing these days. And he needs to find out why. He don't want anyone to ruin his palace, a palace which was nurtured by the bloods of innocent peoples.
And Arnav Singh Raizada is no exception!
Before entering this world, the first rule he teaches to his ever men is"either they live in it or-----or die!
"There's a garage in Laxmi Nagar, we often see him there. Do you want us to do something, Bhai? " one of the man asked.
"No! I will personally look into this matter!" Shyam said and took out his gun. He needs to set out an example in front of his every man. They should know what betraying him means.
...
"Arnav Bhai, you know what? Shyam Bhai is looking out for you! Please go from here. He knows about this place." Aman said to his Bhai, who came huffing and puffing into the garage.
"Let him come! I can handle him!" Arnav replied, least bothered by the information.
"Bhai, you can't take him lightly. Please listen to me. Just for today go somewhere else. He knows about this place. please" Aman pleaded.
Arnav eyed Aman and without uttering another word he got up from his chair and exited the garage.
Aman saw the retreating figure of his Bhai and sighed in relief.
...
Khushi was placing the plate on the Dining table. Placing the plate on their rightful place, she was about to again enter in the kitchen when her hand hit the dining table and a plate came crashing down and shattered into pieces. She saw the plates shattered in pieces with a new restlessness griping his heart. She bent down to pick the pieces, her heart growing with unknown fear, she tried to push away this feeling and concentrated on the task in front of her.
...
Arnav was wandering aimlessly on the abandoned road. The garage was his only adobe, and Khushi was right. A ghost of a smile spread on his lips. She was right about looking for a house. He will need a house, a house where he can take her. His thoughts were short lived as a voice tore the silence of the dark night and soon he felt a bullet zoom pass his shoulder but not before harshly gracing his shoulder. His hand immediately went to his shoulder, blood instantly oozing out.
...
A piece of glass pierced Khushi's finger. Her head jerked up, her heart thudding loudly inside her rib cage. She stood up, her hands trembling due to the unknown fear. She looked outside of her door as her legs on her own record took her towards the door.
...
His head jerked to look back and he noticed a man standing at a far distance. Running fast around the corner, he hides himself behind a wall.
Controlling his irregular breathing, Arnav took out the gun. Peeking from his hidden place, he aimed his gun at the man in front of him, but noticed the man too hiding behind a wall. Letting out a frustrated sigh, he again covered himself.
Arnav waited for sometime before coming out. It's now or never. It's either him or he.
Shyam peeked out of his place and saw there stood his prey, openly challenging him. He too came out from his place and instantly aimed the gun at Arnav and without waiting for a second, stroke a bullet at Arnav, which passed his other shoulder, making his sleeves wet with blood in no time.
...
"Arnav"
Khushi let out a whisper, her breathing irregular. Her heart feeling a unknown dread. She was about to exit the door but something stopped her. She looked behind her, her Amma was holding her hand.
"Khushi where are you going? It's so dark outside. You are afraid of dark, Bitiya." Garima looked at her daughter, confused.
"Amma ...Amma...let me go ...please...Please let me go...he ...he needs me there" Khushi pleaded, her eyes filled with tear.
"Who? Who needs you Khushi? You are not going anywhere! " Garima chided, she had noticed Khushi's weird behavior from last few days and she really can't allow her to go anywhere at this odd hour. And Madhumati Jiji is also not at home.
"I will have to go, Amma! Please, leave me!" Khushi jerked her Amma's hand from her and bolted outside.
"Khushi, please! Listen to me Bitiya! Please, don't go. Please!!!" Garima Gupta shouted at the running Khushi.
"Amma, I am sorry. I will have to go!! I am sorry, Amma" Khushi shouted back.
Garima slumped against the door
...
Khushi ran aimlessly on the empty roads.
"Arnav ji!!"
"Arnav ji!!!"
"Arnav ji!!!!"
Arnav's ears caught the familiar voice. Khushi!
Khushi ran on the road till she found the object of her restlessness. Letting out a sigh of relief she ran towards him but instantly stopped when she saw a man standing in front of her.
Arnav saw Khushi standing in front of Shyam, his heart jumped in his throat.
"Khushi!!! Go back to your home!!!" Arnav shouted, wreck with fear, fear of losing his precious thing.
Khushi looked at Arnav and shook her head, tears flowing freely.
Shyam looked at love birds in front of him. His lips stretched into a smile and soon turned into a sickening laugh.
"Oh! So this is the reason of your betrayal, ha Arnav? Tsk tsk, Arnav, you should have not betrayed me for her. Aren't you aware of the consequences? Have you forgotten the first rule I taught you? Chalo, jo hua so hua. Toh ab yaha ishq ladaya ja raha hai! Is shaitan ki jaan..." Shyam pointed his gun towards Arnav "...Is tote main basi hai!" he looked at Khushi.
"Oh! I am sorry. Ye tota nahi ye toh maina hai!!" and there again came his sickening laugh. But soon masking the serious look he changed his target, now the gun was aimed at Khushi.
Arnav's breath hitched seeing the scene in front of him.
"Shyam!!! You want me!! Leave her, she has nothing to do with all this. I am here in front of you! Do whatever you want with me, please leave her." Arnav said, helplessly.
But Shyam stood in the middle of the road, not paying any attention to Arnav's word.
"Oh! So my boy has a love story! I can see a beautiful lover here!" Shyam eyed Khushi, up and down. "But you know what, Arnav? I hate love stories!!! But you know I love the shaitan and tota's story! Have you heard that story, Arnav? Kill the Tota and the Shaitan will die eventually. So what say, ha? " Shyam said with a evil smile on his face .
"SHYAM!!! YOU bas***d!!! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE CALLING FOR BY DOING THIS!!!!!" Arnav's voice thundered in the empty road and he ran towards him as fast his trembling legs allowed him
But Shyam , not paying a heed, pulled the trigger.
And then the sound of two bullets being shot, echoed in the surrounding.
Arnav dropped the gun on the road, all the strength leaving his body instantly. He stared in front of him, Shyam's limp body fell on the ground and soon everything around him enveloping in a dead silence. His gaze lifted at Khushi, her damp eyes locking with his and as his gaze moved down he saw her pure white kameez drenched with blood. Shaking his head in no, he bolted towards Khushi and caught her before she can hit the hard road.
"No...Khushi...Khushi...Please!!!" Arnav begged taking Khushi's head on his lap as he sat on the road.
Khushi looked at Arnav ji, smiling. No regret on her face.
"Khushi!!!! Who asked you to come here?!!!! Answer me you idiot!!! See what you have done!!! Let me take you to hospital!!!" Arnav tried to pick her up, his desperate eyes searching for some means, but found none.
Khushi raised her hand to wipe the tears off Arnav's face.
Arnav looked at Khushi, his tears falling on Khushi's face, his trembling hands frantically trying to stop the bleeding.
Khushi looked at the trembling hands of Arnav ji. "Arnav ji, your hand is trembling. Kya...kya...kisi ko marne se pehle aap ka haath kaapta tha?" Khushi looked in his frightened eyes. "You know what Arnav ji? When ...when someone commits some sin...you know...you know how Devi Maiya punishes them?..." Khushi asked smiling through her pain.
Arnav shook his head, unable to think anything. What's worse than seeing your beloved dying in front of you?
"She...She is very impartial... and her punishments equally fair. I will tell you what she does...She punishes you by taking away...taking away your precious thing..." Khushi let out a small giggle.
"Am I...am I...I your precious thing, Arnav ji?" Khushi asked, a big lump forming in her throat. Her all dreams lay fragmented in front of her, seeming impossible to reassemble again.
Arnav shook his head, vigorously.
"No!!!! No...you are not my precious thing...you are not my precious thing...tell...tell your Devi Maiya that you are not my precious thing...please ask her to not take you away from me...please don't leave me...I can't live without you, Khushi...I have no one Khushi...only...only you...I need you...I want you... " Arnav poured in the trembling voice. Anguish spreading all over his heart.
"Arnav ji? ...you...you remember ...you remember the night we fought and we didn't meet for few days? ...That...That...night...I ...I prayed to Devi Maiya...I told her to take anything but in return ...in return make you a nice person...and...and now,...now I think that she wants...she wants me ...she wants me in exchange...it's nice na?...we both can sit and discuss how to make you a better person..." Khushi smiled followed by a sudden pain in her abdomen.
"No!!! No!!!...please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...God!!!! Please!!!!!!!! Don't leave me...Don't leave me!!!! I will do whatever you want me to do...I had promised, Khushi...you remember right?...I ...I...swear on you Khushi...bas Mujhe Chhod ke mat jaoo!!!!! Please ...what was the need to come here, you idiot?!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!!" Arnav shouted holding her close to his heart, afraid that she will leave him. She can't leave him. She is his life. What will he do without her?
Khushi smiled at Arnav, trying to hold him, hug him but her weak hands having no strength.
"I can't wish the fire of hell on you, Arnav ji...It's better to burn in the pain of regret...Atleast it will ...it will make you a better person...You have to promise me, Arnav ji...that...that...you will keep your promise I love you...promise me" Khushi pulled back and raised her hand.
Arnav looked at the raised hand and he immediately placed his hand in her's.
"Promise..I promise...Khushi...Now you will not leave me, right? I will become a nice person...then you can introduce me to your Amma...I promise I promise...Khushi...Khushi?" Arnav patted her cheek and he saw her hand become limp and drop to her side. A sharp pain immediately shot at his heart.
"Khushi...Khushi...KHUSHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No...NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES, DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SAID OPEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM A SINNER!!!!!!!! Why are you punishing her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE, GIVE HER BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Arnav shouted at the heavens. He hugged her limp body. Tears like hot lava descending his cheek. Dread overpowering his whole being. He kept shaking his head in no.
She can't leave him! She can't leave him! She can't leave him!
