Television and cinema plots in the recent times have been modified immensely to accommodate powerful female characters who are self sufficient to tackle and avenge wrongs meted out to them. Aping the current social milieu, fiery onscreen characters who stand up for their rights are a huge hit. We bring you a few such bahus and betis locking horns against personal and societal injustice.

Balika Vadhu, Dadisa This highly successful show that has completed more than 1500 episodes has currently one of the most loved elderly characters on TV. In an ongoing plot, Dadisa (Surekha Sikri) is shown standing up against corrupt bureaucracy and land grabbing mafia for a patch of land meant for a girl's college. She is shown protesting vehemently in the face of ruthless authorities.

Saanchi In a parallel plot in the same serial, the issue of date rape drugs, rape and the victim fighting for justice is being showcased. The track shows Saanchi (Roop Durgapal) being administered date rape drugs, raped and filmed by her rapist. Instead of being scared, Saanchi decides to take her rapist to court.
