Current time when economy, nations are seeking "Globalization" Globalization - what it means literally? here is the link .

Thinking futuristically - Being multilingual (french, spanish, german, chinese) no more an advantage, but its more then advantagious to be termed mandate for next generation ??

To add few more questions -

- Is age a factor to attain expertise in different languages, if so why?

- Universal language has lost its value?

Kaun kehta hai? I can criticise my MIL on her face and she will have no idea what I am saying as long as I keep smiling! 😆 I can always make sure what the students are yattering about - if it's complimentary 😳 or not 😡. I can have a wonderful conversation with my neighbour's elderly parents - they speak in Bangla, I reply in Hindi, they reply back in Bangla and we go on like this for hours on a lazy Friday morning 😛

but its more then advantagious to be termed mandate for next generation ??

Not really! The three main factors in my opinion are the amount of work you are willing to put in, your exposure to the language outside of a classroom/learner setting, and how much you get to use it. I had lived in the UAE for 3 years before I went to Saudi for a couple of months. I never felt the need to speak Arabic in the UAE because English was widely-used. However, in Saudi I was forced to pick up Arabic because not many people spoke, or were willing to speak English. I was getting good at it when I returned to the UAE, and promptly forgot most of it

- Universal language has lost its value?

Couldn't really figure out what you meant here 😳

no who said multilingual is no more of an advantage. actually in the west, people have to take course in foreign language and its mandatory in certain places, since english is their main language. no matter how far globalization goes, being multilingual or having a proficiency over different languages is an art or skill and i dont think one must think it has the downside to it. age, i am not sure if that plays a role or not, but kids pick up different languages faster than elders, speaking from first hand experience 😛

it is always an advantage to know more than one language... there is no such disadvantage unless you work hard on learning something irrelevant(pata chala one has excelled in Jhingalala lingo but has no one around s/he could intereact with 😆 )
well jokes apart - its like a secret weapon when you have a command on many languages... you can pretend you do not know the language but this way you can know some dark/interesting secrets or bad-mouthing anytime 😳 😳 😉 I admit I do 😆 😆 but seriously in the corporate level, you ppl must be knowing well, it is mandatory to know languages other than global language... mostly the local language of that particular area... (reasons are obvious 😳 ) more useful when it comes to analysis, marketing, surveys and all.. not to forget a receptionist has to have command on more than 2 languages(naturally)...

age can be or can not be a factor - if you are young and a multilingual then it shows the adaptability towards leaning new things & accuracy... and if you are not so young then also there is no such harm as it is termed as an added advantage ;)

>> Universal language has lost its value?

thats a news to me Anshu!😳

no worries 😆 😆 😆 hota hai hota hai

on a serious note, one must keep speaking the foreign language that the person has picked up, otherwise there is a high chance of losing it 😊
