Ash is a very successful, mature woman. She does not need anyone's support to be recognized. She is doing extremely well in the indian industry and one of the first indian actress to cross bollywood and come to hollywood. I applaud her. I will admit that she is not my favorite as Kajol and Rani are..but that does not mean that she does not get the credit for her work and recognition. As far as Abhishek and his success..we all know he is Big B's son..now tell me Ash had that as backup when she came into the industry.

It is interesting to note that she has been linked with certain men at a time when they were being acclaimed for their work.. a high point in their career if you will.

While she did not have the backing of a film-industry family upon entering, she did have her Miss World title.

I do not recall a direct quote from Mrs. Rai-Bachchan, but others who have been in a similar position (ie: no prior industry connection/backing, Beauty Peagent title holders) have claimed that it was their status or title as a Miss India, Miss World or Miss Universe that made approaching and entering bollywood easier/possible.
The peagents certainly afford these women a platform many others don't have access to and gives them that foot in the door position for Bollywood.
