Sonam to turn Politician

Last year, Sonam Kapoor had an on-screen brush with politics when she played a political activist in Raanjhanaa. And now, the actor is all set to play a full-fledged politician in her yetuntitled upcoming film, which is an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan's book, Battle For Bittora. In the film, Sonam will be seen playing a "dynamic, goodlooking politician", says an insider close to the production team. The film is set against the backdrop of elections.

Sonam's father, Anil Kapoor will be producing the film that will go on the floors around SeptemberOctober this year. "Anil sir has already roped in two writers " Parvez Shaikh (Ghanchakkar, 2013) and Jasmeet Rei " to begin work on the screenplay," the insider adds.

The book is a love story between two up and coming politicians who, despite being in love, are contesting against each other in the elections. Kapoor is considering three young actors " Imran Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sidharth Malhotra " to play the male lead opposite his daughter. "The film belongs to a fresh, young genre, and that's why the idea is to create an energetic pairing. In fact, within the next 10 days, the director is also likely to be finalised," says the insider. The source adds that the leading man will also be finalised within the next fortnight. Apparently, Sonam is a fan of Anuja's books, and likes the author's strong, female characters, including Zoya Solanki from The Zoya Factor. Since Sonam's first film, Saawariya (2007), was loosely based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's White Nights, and Aisha (2010) was a modern interpretation of Jane Austen's Emma, this will be her third film based on a book.

Despite repeated attempts, Anil Kapoor and Sonam remained unavailable for comment.
