So this morning, I received a very weird PM. This was on the heels of a strange post made on my SS thread.
After reading the PM, requesting the sender to keep me out of such future PMs, and then pondering on the PM (as well as laughing) I wanted to share my thoughts about it with all on the forum.
Basically, the PM was a typed up request to send an email/complain to IBF India about the stuff that is being shown in QH and what was shown as far back as August of 2013. Those who have seen the PM, now know what I am talking about.
So in chronological order here are the complaints that I was asked to make (in black) and the response I have to the original writer of the PM (in purple). I still have my doubts that this PM was the creation of the one sending it to me. It was mostly a group effort made somewhere else.
1. This show also promotes that Dark toned girls are not proper marriage material and they cant marry without giving Dowry (Episode 201, Aug 05, 2013)
[ME] - Have you guys seen the innumerable shows made on Dark toned girls? If not, go watch them. Its a request. Bidaai and Saat Phere are the two that come to mind which started with the story of a dark toned girl and issues she faces when time comes for her marriage. So while you are complaining, do complain about this super hit shows too.
Also, don't you think, its six months too late to be complaining about this. I guess this was not an issue back then, since no one was interested in getting the show closed down back then.
Maybe, you are not aware of how big the obsession with white skin in India is, but it is a very real problem that was depicted in the show. And if you guys really want to so something about it, please support Nandita Das's "Dark is Beautiful" movement. This would actually tackle the main problem that is common around India.
2. They showed that a Qazi solemnized an Accidental Nikah between 2 People who were not aware of their surroundings and talking on thier respective phones to somebody else.(Episode 232 - September 16, 2013)
[ME]- Not again!!! Yes what they showed was stupid and it was with the intention of making it clear that the nikah was invalid to begin with.
Again too late to complain about it and same question, why now? Why no complaints were made then. Easy ==> no one wanted the show to shut down back then.
3. They showedAlcohol Consumptionby Muslims where as its Haram for them (Episode 333- Feb 04, 2014).
[ME] - So by this logic, every media channel that shows videos and pictures of Bollywood parties, should be handslapped. Coz, we all know that the biggest stars in Bollywood are Khans (Muslims) and it is also a known fact that they not only smoke, but also drink.
Maybe write to clerics too while you are at it, to get Fatwas issued against these Khans.
4. Muslim traditions are portrayed in bad light by showing Males marry a second time Without Informing their First Wife (Episode 334, Feb 05, 2014).
[ME] -Yes. Agreed. Then QH should not have started since Rashid miyan married without informing Dilshaad and it was known since the beginning. Yet we not only watched the show, but even loved it. Such double standards, why? Oh yes, because some people are on a mission to get the show shut down.
5. Qubool Hai, aired on 14th February 2014 On Zee Tv At 9.30 pm showed a Muslim Nikah where the rules of Muslim Marriage is not met with and they are declared as Married Couple. They showed Bride's Wali is Groom's Mother. In Muslim Marriage, bride's Wali has to be a Muslim Male only, No Female Can Act As Wali To Bride. Wali of bride should not be related to Groom. They showed this Nikah is solemnized at a Masoleoum which is also against Muslim Traditions (Episode 341, Feb 14the, 2014).
[ME] - This one had me laughing the hardest. I can bet a million dollars (which I don't have) that had this Nikah happened in the exact same fashion, no changes whatsoever, but with a different male lead, there would have been no problem at all. This problem is the reason the above four points also come to existence. No one has a problem as long as the man that was Asad was part of the show.
Now coming to my main thoughts -
The previous Asad was a good actor, I appreciated him as an actor. When he decided to quit (I am going with the popular belief here), I accepted it. It's his choice.
But the way the fans are reacting, makes it very easy for me to not like him or not want to watch his next shows. Coz, God forbid, he chooses to quit again, the show will have to shut shop midway without finishing its story. Coz the fans will not let the show survive.
I understand being a fan and wanting justice for the actor you like coz he was maligned (fan opinion). But exactly how long will this boycott/ hating continue?
I will not be surprised that when the show actually dies its natural death, there will be some people who will still be around to rejoice and also take complete credit for the ending of the show.
God be with you guys. I am just thoroughly surprised at how much time and money is being spent on a cause that in the grand scheme of life is very very small. Its a show, it comes with a shelf life, it will expire when the time is right. But whatever. Good luck in doing what you believe in.
Once I post this, I will not be coming back to respond to anyone on this thread. I have said all I wanted to. I am however, interested in reading other peoples honest opinions.
Bashers - do your best. I know I will be targeted for the next God knows how many days, but I don't think I really care at this point.
Mods - I know this maybe a topic that will be flagged. But this being an open forum, its a request to let the people who truly want to share their thoughts, allowed to do so. The fear of it turning ugly is not good enough reason to preemptively close the thread.
