Reveals Rohit Shetty about his ambitious sequel and says his
biggest fear is empty theatres.
Daredevilry is second nature for Rohit Shetty who now can
claim to be the inhouse Bollywood expert on flying cars and
explosions. Rohit who is the host of an new season of the reality
show Khatron Ke Khiladi. But what's also keeping him
preoccupied is his mega I- Day stint, Singham 2, which teams
him up with buddies Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor.
"Bebo called one day and admitted she was missing working
with Ajay and me. She wondered if I had anything for her," he
reminisces. That phone call prompted Rohit to start scripting
Singham 2. "I specially authored a nice character for Bebo,
something I usually don't do," he reveals, adding that the sequel
is set in Mumbai and will have more drama, comedy and action.
High-risk stunts have been a part of the drill for him since his
debut feature. He still remembers a scene in Zameen in which
Ajay had to jump on the bonnet of a car before it blows up. "In
those days there weren't fancy CGI-VFX and safety was a
concern. I was sweating during the shoot, and so relieved when
we pulled it off. Unfortunately the film didn't do too well," he
sighs.
But, today Rohit is perhaps the most successful commercial
filmmaker in Bollywood who is not burdened by the weight of
expectations. "I'm the biggest champion of positive thinking and
believe that if you are convinced about your abilities, success
will come to you," he asserts.
That's the reason he isn't stressed about his TV debut, confident
that he'll learn on the job. However, he hasn't picked up any
tricks from his predecessors, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka
Chopra, arguing that the format is so different that there was no
way he could've emulated them.
About his own fears, he says that as a kid they revolved around
school. "I was so petrified of the teachers and the books that I
dropped out before I was 16," he admits. And what's his biggest
fear now that he doesn't have to stand in the assembly line?
"Empty theatres," he retorts.
