I'm running really fast nowadays, so no matter what, I'm going to run fast towards the podium. If my name is announced, I'll run to the podium, if not, I'll run out (laughs).
So, how different will your thank-you speeches be, if you win?
You have to re-invent that as it goes along. But again, it's pointless to think of what you are going to say and not get a chance to say it.
How would you rate yourself as a singer, actor and filmmaker on a scale of 1 to 10?These things are very difficult because no matter how good you are, there is always space for improvement. And if anyone thinks they know everything about what they are doing then they are deluded. The best answer to this was given by Bruce Lee who said, 'If I tell you I'm good, probably you will say I'm boasting. But if I tell you I'm not good, you'll know I'm lying.'
Who do you see as your competitors?
I'm probably very alone in this boat of not having these competitive ribs in my body. I really feel and I have actually spoken to my friends from the industry as well that there is so much work that people can do individually and together. And to let random differences or a perceived strange race that people are having with each other to get in the way of being able to create better film experiences for audiences is sad. When we grew up we saw so many of our favourite actors together in films and as an audience, it was such a payoff. Today, we are denying the audience this experience because we have certain issues about not working together. It's very sad that the audience can't get to see their favourite actors together in a film. A healthy sense of competition, of wanting to give your best, do good work is fine, but it shouldn't start interfering with the way you feel about another person.
Will you ever do a typical masala film, like say a Rowdy Rathore?
I have realised you should never say never. But I'm not really drawn to wanting to do a movie like that. A certain degree of reality, rationale and logic to me is important. To me, a film like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is out-and-out entertainment.
Now that you are more into acting, is acting's gain going to be filmmaking's loss?
I don't know how to answer that question. This year I won't be directing because of the things that I have committed to. But I will direct in the future for sure.
As a director of a film, you call the shots, but when you are an actor, do you get tempted to give your inputs?
The overview of the film and the final word on what works for a scene lies with the director, who has been involved in the film for much longer than you as an actor and they will continue to be
Do you secretly wish to play Don?
No, secretly I don't wish to play Don. To me Shah Rukh is the character. When I write, I will write for Shah Rukh, for the guy he is at that point in life. I can't have a don who is 17 and ask Shah Rukh to look 17. That's not possible.
