When Alexander entered India he was bewildered by the terrain. There were forests everywhere. Eagles were looking down on him with interest. He was very surprised to see the wild buffaloes of India.
Then he saw monkeys. Selucus and Ptomely drew their swords as they thought monkeys were barbarians. Alexander was about to form his plan about attacking the monkeys when someone from his camp told him that they were not humans but animals.
Alexander was intrigued. He wanted to see the monkeys from close. So he ordered his generals to catch the monkeys. The youngest monkey was thus given to Roxana who was said to be very impressed with the gift from her husband. Alexander then ordered his generals to put monkeys in the cage so that he could send them to his mother and sister. Thus monkeys were transported from India to Macedonia for first time...
