The Bahubali reference was interesting and what I am about to say is related to that.
Almost all of us have seen both the Bahubali movies and enjoyed them. But something which I have observed in a majority of the Bahubali fans including myself is that we all were left spellbound by Amarendra Bahubali and his larger than life character. It was Amarendra who left an everlasting impact on the minds of the audience as compared to his son Mahendra/Shivudu though both were played by the same actor.
It was a sample of the brilliant and extraordinary performer which Prabhas is
I better stop talking about Prabhas here coz when I get into the Prabhas fangirl mode no force on earth can stop me
So between Amarendra and Mahendra,it was Mahendra who had the arc of a typical hero.Kid separated from parents at birth, father killed, mother imprisoned, raised amongst tribals away from the royal palace, grows up for a mission, rescues mom, fights the villains and ultimately claims his rightful birthright. This is what we see in almost every movie
Amarendra,on the other hand, didn't lack for anything.Despite being orphaned at an early age,he never felt like one coz Shivagami raised him lovingly and treated him as her own son.
Amarendra never witnessed any hardships during his childhood and he grew up in the palace like the prince he was.He knew he was meant to be a king and had no qualms in admitting it.He trained in warfare, participated in wars, fell in love and married a princess.
But it was Amarendra who created the impact which lasted over his subjects to such an extent that they idolised him and over the audience that they couldn't help but be in awe of him.
Infact the reason Mahendra got all the support and love was because he was Amarendra Bahubali's son.
The reason why Amarendra was more of a hero despite Mahendra having the typical hero's storyline was how Amarendra's character was written and how he was more believable and real.Amarendra stood firmly by his principles and always chose what was right. He lived among the people and won their hearts through his good nature and was always the king despite not possessing the crown.
Mahendra,on the other hand, definitely possessed supernatural powers given how he defeated a trained and experienced warrior like Bhallaldeva with no training and experience. This is why I couldn't connect to Mahendra as much as I connected with Amarendra.
Now coming back to our topic Porus,Puru's arc was more like the typical heroish arc.
Separated from parents at birth, raised away from the palace etc.
This is what makes his abilities somewhat unbelievable.I can very well understand why Puru is a ferocious warrior. Its due to the fact that he was trained in the Dasyu style of combat. His values are the result of Ripudaman's upbringing.
But he is still not trained in kingship. This is where AnuBamni should have played their roles. They should have been the ones who should have taught him the ways of running and managing a kingdom. In order to manage a kingdom you need to be focused and practical(as practical as ITV allows you to be)
Bamni and Anusuya had their own share of problems to deal with.Amidst all this Puru was left alone with no mentor to guide him.
Anusuya's biggest flaw was her excessive idealism. Its not wrong to harbour idealistic notions. But before applying them in real life we need to understand whether the situation and circumstances are apt for them or not.
Basically we have to think before we act.Anusuya was not wrong to dream of an akhand bharat. But she didn't know the proper way of making that dream materialise.
With Bamni, all of us know what the problem is.His excessive dependance on Shivdutt led to him being rendered powerless.Shivdutt had cleverly taken all the soldiers and the army to his side.He doesn't have a single loyal solider in his own army. Its coz he himself allowed Shivdutt to grab the real power within the palace while he remained unaware and negligent.
This is where a person like Ripudaman is needed.Till his last breath Ripudaman remained loyal to Bamni and he proved it by protecting and raising Puru. Moreover he was a better parent/guardian/mentor to Puru than anyone else.Had Ripudaman stayed alive then I am sure he wouldn't have been happy with Puru's decision to go to Faras. He would rather prefer to have Puru stay back in PR get accustomed to the army, military strategies and learn the tricks of managing a kingdom.
Here Alexander clearly scores points.First he proved himself as a capable warrior by accompanying Philip to wars and winning the admiration and trust of his soldiers.
Secondly if we remember his coronation, then he claimed the throne of Macedonia as Shah Philip's son and not as Devta Zeus Ki Aulaad. We all know that Sony Alexander hated his father towards the end (real one loved Philip despite all their misunderstandings).Despite that and his personal feelings,he acknowledged himself as Philip's son which was a clever move to make.Coz many of the nobles and commanders were loyal to Philip. So it's natural that they would follow Philip's son and and not Zeus'.
