Dear Ayesha,

I would second all this in toto.

Till now, I have not seen him fail or falter in this role. As I noted elsewhere in this forum, the choice of this boy is a remarkable casting coup, and it is one of the very few clever things the producers have done

Rohit has the presence which is vital for a successful Alexander. Now presence is either there or not there, it cannot be taught or acquired. His Alexander looks every inch a very young world conqueror: the insouciance of youth, the effortless dominance, the unshakeable confidence, the innate shrewdness, the subtle grasp of human psychology. Plus he is very handsome - which too Alexander was, judging from the statues and busts - and he has the sleek grace of a panther when he moves.

The impeccable body language apart, Rohit performs mostly with his eyes. It must be a relief for him, as he had said in some interview, not to have to wear dark contact lenses, and so his eyes are perhaps more at ease and thus more expressive than in his earlier roles.

Last night, what I liked the best, apart from the dominating walk thru the honour guard, was the slight, almost mocking smile on his face as he surveys his surroundings.

It was also revealing that while he is limping in the tent, by the time the honour guard is in place, he manages to walk.straight through, without the slightest limp, by sheer will power. For the king cannot limp in front of his soldiers or the Persian public!

I was puzzled by his not having had the arrow removed, for it must have been agony to walk with it tearing his flesh at each step, but I realised that he wanted to show all those around him, his men and the Persians, that the son of Zeus could take this pain and more, and not flinch.

I have only one question: Alexander is standing outside a semi-opaque cloth screen. He has to rip it apart to be able to enter the tent. How then does he knife that Persian soldier so unerringly from outside?
