Naren's parents are of old traditions and they have multiple reasons which u mentioned above for forcing naren to change in their way.In reality now a days majority of parents are very open minded ( leave alone the few who are stick to their culture and tradition ) love marriages are not objected like in earlier days, girls are allow to study / work in the fields which were meant for boys earlier.forget about love marriage, girls and boys are openly live in relationship with the knowledge of their parents.poor parents may not even know the meaning of that, surrogating ( i know girls from decent family , some time from the same family do this), becoming father without marriage, becoming mother without or before marriage etc etc.i ,i have friends who became nun. these are happening in India now and parents are accepting even though they don't like it , and they are not forcing them to do what parents want.


My mom keeps saying that Shumi & I agree.Change does occur.The pace of it might not be to our liking but transformation does take place.Dominant view of any time is the result of a complex interplay of various factors.For an existing belief system to be shaken,all those factors that led credence to it in the first place have to be dealt with & that takes time.Many of the seemingly regressive customs were once the norm & people were okay with it at the time.Not now though cause with the times,the social & institutional factors that supported it are also gone
