To be honest Ronit in this programme there are no heros or villians. All the characters were grey to varying degrees.
No matter how it may have been billed this was a story about Sugni and TVS and their relationship. Adi at best can be described as the good samaritan who helped her. As TVS and Sugni said many times to Adi stay out of this, this is between us because everything happened because of their relationship.
I think Vinnie described their relationship the best - they loved each other unconditonally but with that they had the capacity to hurt each other deeply and they did.
I liked TVS at the beginning because here was a man who was mature, educated, well read, responsible for his family, experienced in the way of the world and therefore dealt with people appropriately in any given circumstances so with TJS he was shrewd, with Sugni he was respectful, with his Chacha he was loyal etc. It was refreshing to see a character that was not a young guy with a six pack and 2 faces - 1 happy face and 1 constipated look for all other emotions.
TVS suffered because he made a fundamental error in judgement. His intentions were honourable (he wanted to look after Reva and he wanted to marry Sugni) but what is wrong is wrong. And to this day I will say that if he had lost Sugni (ie she had said go to hell and walked away) because of his mistake than while I would have complete sympathy for him I would also point out that like every other human being he also has to deal with the consequences of his actions. Put yourself in Sugni's posiiton - yes he loved her and would treat her like his wife but in the eye of the world she would be his mistress. That is not something you can blindside someone into.
My problem with the storyline was:
- dead people do not come back to life espcially when he says he looked for her months after the accident
-he was a man who always dealt with problems head on so why would he not tell Sugni when the matter was between them and he could control the situation and help her understand
-why was divorce not an option.
From there the story got worse and worse and each time it took a turn for the worst my empathy with him / understanding of him grew. It did not blind me to his errors but his errors were outweighted by the cruelty inflcited on him.
So that by the time he became completely negative and his actions were completely out of order I understood them (did not agree but understood them) as being him lashing out and trying to cause pain to the two people who had shattered his world to gain happiness together.
IMO TVS never became a villian in the normal sense of the word because he knew when he was doing the wrong thing and you could see he was not comfortable with the course he had chosen (whether it was hiding Reva from sugni, Forcing Adi of the road or trying to get him killed) and made amends (his actions were extreme for dramatisation). Thats not a villain but a normal human being who is fallable.
