Bataao yaad hai tumko
Woh jab dil ko churaya tha
Churaai cheez ko tumne
Khuda ka ghar banaya tha
Woh jab kehte thhe
Mera naam tum tasbih mein padhte ho
Mohabbat ki Namaazo ko
qara karne se darte ho
Magar ab yaad aata hai
Woh baatein thi mahaz baatein
Kahin baaton hi baaton mein
Mukarna bhi zaroori tha
Teri aankhon ke dariya ka
Utarna bhi zaroori tha

"You are the father... He is the son... Take him to school.. just don't bother me..." Meher told abeer and started arranging her luggage in the room, making space of herself.
"Don't touch my wardrobe..." Abeer stopped meher.
"You never really had a problem when I touched you, and now its just about a wardrobe... Relax..." Meher smirked and continued working.
"Don't talk to me like that..."
"Like what... What am I doing...?? Huh...??" Meher asked facing abeer.
"Dont do this... I'm not falling for you again... Mera dil todh deti na toh shayad uss toote hue dil se bhi tumhe pyaar karta... Lekin tumne aisi chot di hai jo shayad zindagi bhar bhi theek nahi hogi... Tumne mujhe iss layak bhi nahi samjha ke main ishaan ko apna naam de sakun..."
Abeer stared at meher for minutes, then turned and left the room.
Meher had to remind herself not to break down and be strong - for ishaan and for the love of her life. Stubborn and hurt abeer is a tough nut to crack but she is also his ms. Akdoo. She knows how to handle him perfectly. She will do it, she self motivated herself. Meher took a deep breath and resumed in the task of making that room into their room.
Abeer sighed when he returned home and found that meher wasn't in the bedroom. For a second, he thought where she could be but then he brushed that thought away. He wasn't supposed to care or worry about her. He has no right on her. Abeer took off his shirt and opened the bathroom door with a jerk, only to get collide with meher who stumbled and he instinctively wrapped his strong arms around her. Meher held into his shoulders like a life ring in a stormy sea. They looked in each other's eyes and it felt like nothing ever changed. They were suddenly transported to the time when they met first. That fluttering of the heart when looking at each other, or the blush that crept up her cheek even with the brush of their fingers. The time when every sound and color of the world seemed to deepen and brighten around them. For minutes, there eyes held each other's in a passionate gaze until abeer broke the trance. His grip loosened around meher and she stumbled unable to maintain her balance. She hissed in pain as she shifted her balance to her already injured feet. Abeer looked down at meher's feet and carried her in his arms as if she was like a feather - soft and delicate. He carefully made her sit on the bed and went back into the bathroom. He returned with a medical kit and sat on the floor taking meher feet in his hands. Meher faintly smiled at his gesture and closed her eyes before he could see the newly formed tears in her eyes. When he was done with cleaning and bandaging her feet, meher held abeer's hand.
"I'm really sorry..." whispered meher.
Suddenly his warm eyes turned into something cold and piercing.
"I'm also sorry... I shouldn't have trusted you that blindly..."
He closed the bathroom behind him and she kept looking at the closed door, hoping he would come back to her and listen her out. He always did it before, so why not now... Now when she desperately wants him to return.
Its was evening now but meher didn't see abeer after their bitter sweet moment.
"Mumma... I really like dad..." Ishaan told meher sitting beside her in the balcony adjoining the room.
"You will love him soon..." Meher stated, ruffling ishaan's hair.
"Do you also love him...??"
"Yes I do... More than I will ever say... More than he will ever know..."
"He doesn't love you... Does he...??"
Meher looked at ishaan with a lump formed at the back of her throat. This very question has been haunting her currently.
"Yes..."
Meher and ishaan turned to see abeer standing their, his attention focused on ishaan. Meher waited for his eyes to land at her but they never did. She was dying to get his attention but stubborn abeer is not easy, as she reminded herself again.
"Really...?? When did you know...??" Ishaan asked pulling abeer towards the railing where Meher stood.
"What do you want to know...?? Kya chahta hai mera beta...??" Abeer asked while meher kept looking at the sky. The night was dark and sky cloudy with no stars visible. No source of light or happiness. Just like the current phase of her life. Yes, just a phase. Because abeer would forgive her sooner or later, she knows him that well. In these 8 years, many things might have changed in him but not his heart. She was sure of it.
"From when do you love mom...??" Ishaan asked curiously.
Meher stood there waiting for abeer to answer the question. She wanted to hear it all again. Their love story.
"As long as I can remember... Remaining story... Ask your mom to fill you in... And before I forget, your daadi is calling you downstairs..." Abeer told ishaan with a warm smile.
Ishaan ran downstairs while meher and abeer stood silently in the dim lighted balcony looking at nothing in particular. A strange silence around them - for the first time ever.
"This is not right..." Abeer said to start a conversation. A conversation which was important than anything in the world.
Meher remained quiet and waited for him to continue. At least today he was talking to her - starting a conversation.
"My son doesn't deserves this life... Full of confusion... Go back home... You guys belong there..."
Meher couldn't believe what she heard and looked at abeer in utter shock.
"He deserves to have a life with both his parents loving and protecting him... He deserves a family abeer..." She told abeer.
"Wish you thought about this thing years back... And stop making me the bad guy... While its the other way around..."
"Fine... I'm the bad guy... But I'm apologising... Trying to make up for the loss..." Meher retorted back.
"Sometimes its all about the wrong timing... Timing is a bitch..."
Abeer walked away and meher sighed, taking in his words. May be it is all about the wrong timing but if its time, it will certainly change. Law of nature.
Abeer descended the stairs and smiled at the scene in front of his eyes. Kuber Malhotra smiling and feeding ishaan with his own hands. This was a rare sight. Correction. Never did he saw anything like it, forget seeing such a thing, he doesn't even remember his father doing that to him or spending some quality time with him.
"Daadu I'm full..." Ishaan said with his mouth full of food.
"Abhi toh kuch bhi nahi khaya... Punjabi ho tum... Khao khao.." Kuber told ishaan and fed him with a fork of pasta.
"You want more pizza...??" Madhvi asked coming out of the kitchen.
"Nooo..." Ishaan nodded his head in negative.
"Its my kid... Don't dump extra food into him..." Abeer joined the trio.
"Hmm..." Ishaan nodded chewing the food.
"Badmash... Yeh humara pyaar hai..." Madhvi said playfully hitting abeer's arm.
"Arrey maa pyaar pyaar mein yeh janab 50 kilo ka na ho jae... Be careful..." Abeer replied.
"Can we all go out on a picnic someday...??" Ishaan asked finally.
"Picnic...?? Or do you want to go to Disneyland...??" Kuber asked.
"Dad... He just a small kid... Please don't spoil him..." Abeer sternly told kuber.
"He is not just a kid... He is Kuber Malhotra's grand child... You also went for a world trip abeer at the age of 15... Right...??" Kuber asked.
"Yes I was 15... But ishaan is just 7... Half my age then..." Abeer stated.
"Yes yes... Lets go..." Ishaan excitedly said, ignoring the conversation between his dad and grand dad.
"On your next birthday... What say...??" Abeer suggested.
"My birthday gift... Yes... Yiieepppiiieee..." Ishaan jumped with joy, while the others smiled ear to ear.
Meher returned into the room and sat on the corner of the bed. Tears threatening to fall down her eyes but now she was alone, so was allowed to cry and fall weak. She couldn't help but remember her last conversation before she left her home for last 7 years.
"Meher tu pagal ho gyi hai kya...?? Yeh kya kar rahi hai..??" Devki told meher.
Meher stopped packing her luggage and turned to face devki.
"Why didn't you tell me this thing years back bua...?? Why..?? Jab mera ghar toot raha tha tab kyun nahi samjhaya apne...??? Kyun..??" Meher asked devki in a remorseful voice.
"Meher apni zindagi mat barbaad kar beta uss awara ke peeche... Sirf khelna aata hai logon ke saath uss raheeszaade ko..."
"Abeer aisa nahi hai... Maine bhi usko yahi kaha tha... Usne kabhi nahi khela tha mera saath... It was your words stuffed into my mouth that day.. Because of you, I said all those words to my husband..." Meher regretted.
"Pta nahi kya jaadu kar deta hai woh tere upar... Uske aate hi tu behek jaati hai... Pehle bhi yahi hua tha... Aaj bhi yahi ho raha hai... Aur aaj tu akeli nahi hai... Tera beta bhi hai..." Devki tried knocking some sense into Meher.
"Pyaar ka jaadu hai woh bua... Pyaar ka.. Sirf woh samjhega jisne kabhi zindagi mein kisi se sacha pyaar kiya hoga... Aap nahi samjhaegi... Aur haan main akeli nahi hoon... Ishaan hai... Par hum dono par sirf ek insaan ka haq hai... Abeer ka... Sirf abeer ka..." Meher poured out her feelings.
"What about akshat...?? Usne 8 saal humara saath diya... Aur tumhara abeer... Woh chod kar gya tha tumhe meher... Bhaag gya tha darr kar..."
"Akshat dost tha... Dost hai... Aur dost rahega... Shadi nahi kar sakti usse kyunki pyaar sirf abeer se hai mujhe... Aur haan bua... Abeer gya tha toh laut kar bhi aaya tha... Mere pass... Par Maine use apnaya nahi... Apni zidd aur ego mein... You were my role model bua but apne bhi kabhi try nahi kia... Kabhi try nahi kia meri zindagi bachane ke liye... Kyun nahi roka mujhe jab maine apni shadi khud todh di... Kyun bua...??" Meher asked with tears in her eyes.
"Woh ladka acha hi nahi tha... Ek dum badtameez... Tu uske pyaar mein pagal thi..."
"Woh ladka meri zindagi hai aur ab uske against main ek word nahi sunungi... Aur woh acha ladka nahi hai... Accha...?? Kitni baar... Na Jaane kitni baar apne uski insult ki... Par abeer nahi kabhi kuch nahi kaha... Apni kadwi baatein sunnta raha bua woh... Mere liye... Humare pyaar ke liye... Par ab aur nahi... Abeer and I will get back together... Jisko pasand aaye theek hai... Jisko nahi... Mujhe farak nahi padhta... Aur please don't try to brainwash or manipulate me... I respect you bua but now... Now it's time for me to focus only and only on abeer. I want him in my life and ishaan needs his father... Now I want a family... A family of my own... Abeer ishaan n I..." saying this meher walked out of the house.
"Mom why are you crying...??"
Ishaan's worried voice brought meher out of her reverie. Meher instantly wiped off her tears and smiled at ishaan.
"Nothing is wrong baby... Nothing..." Meher tried to console ishaan.
"Did dad say anything..??" Ishaan immediately asked, out of concern.
"No no... He didn't... Ishaan baby I kept you away from abeer and this house.. I had my reasons baby... You don't hate me for that... Do you...??"
"No mom... I love you... Sabse jyada..."
Ishaan hugged meher and meher engulfed him in her arms.
Abeer looked at the mother son duo and smiled. Yes he loved that woman to bits but that woman - the mother of his child - kept him away from his son. She deprived him of all the times when he should have been beside her while she carried their baby. He would have seen and felt his baby growing inside her, the first ultrasound, the first kick. He imagined what it would have felt like to hold her hand while she struggled and winced in pain while giving birth to their beautiful creation. The first time he would have seen ishaan, held him in his hands, kissed his forehead or felt his silky soft skin, the first time he would have tried to make out what all he inherited from him and meher. That women made him miss ishaan's every first time. His first smile, his first giggle, his first step, his first word, his first toothless grin, his first day of school, his first stage performance, his first demand, his first tantrum, his first argument and so on. Meher made him miss so much in life that if he ever lived those moments, they would have been his cherished memories for life. But he missed out on them only because of her stupid insecurities and fears.
Days passed by, ishaan was in real terms the prince of Malhotra mansion. Kuber and madhvi loved ishaan, even more than abeer. Abeer never in his life that happy but whenever he saw his parents pampering his child - he felt like the luckiest man alive. Meher was happy seeing ishaan getting everything deserved but on the other hand she was scared. Scared because of two reasons.. First was her still not progressing relationship with abeer and second... Well that wasn't important, according to her.
"Abeer we need to talk..." Meher locked the bedroom door and announced.
Abeer hummed in reply.
"Can you ever forgive me..?? If you can, just tell me how... What do I have to do to get you back...?? Say it and I will do it..." Meher asked. No she pleaded.
"Its not about forgiving meher... It just hurts me way too much every time I think about this very fiasco... You basically denied me everything... And its because you regretted falling for me... The immature impulsive rich spoilt brat... I was never good enough for you..." Abeer confessed.
"Abeer..." Meher whispered in disbelief.
"I wasn't your knight in shining armour... Not the perfect guy you must have dreamnt of... After whatever your father did to your family, I repeated that... And proved to you that I'm no prince... Not a knight in shining armour... I'm imperfect and have my own flaws... I broke your heart and -"
"You might not be perfect guy abeer, but you were perfect for me... I loved the perfection of imperfection in you... But after getting married, I suddenly wanted you to be what you weren't... I tried changing you... And that's not true love... But you loved me the way I was... You never expected me to change... Not for you, not for your status and society .. You accepted me with my flaws and loved me for what I was... Your love was unconditional and true... You deserve someone better but I can't let you go... Because I deserve a love like yours.. Only you can love me the way I want to be loved... Only you..."
Meher stood a feet away from abeer and looked at him with all the love she had for him in her heart.
"I love you..."
"I'm sorry..."
They both said at the same time.
Abeer took the first step like every time and engulfed meher in a bone crushing hug. Meher threw her arms around him and let her tears make way through her eyes. She cried in his embrace, this time for the last time... Because he wouldn't let her cry like this ever again. She knew her abeer that much.
"I love you too..." Meher whispered.
"I'm sorry too..." Abeer whispered back.
They both giggled and smiled listening to their synchronised heartbeats.
A week later, it was abeer's birthday and there were lots of preparations and planning going on. Meher was actively a part of all this and loved the feeling. She was back into Malhotra mansion and into abeer's life but as who... The thought saddened her. Yes abeer and she sorted out their differences, she was a part of his life again, living in his house... In his room.. Sharing the bed but where was the tag she wanted. She wanted to be known as Abeer Malhotra's wife. His better half. But she couldn't come up to express that wish of hers and saying that to abeer, so she was waiting for him to ask her.
The night before abeer's birthday, meher made ishaan sleep in another bedroom and decorated the room for abeer, who was out for some promotion of his new album. Meher waited for abeer getting impatient and when he came back, she smiled at him. Her best smile.
"Why aren't you asleep..??" Abeer asked.
"Happy birthday Abeer..." Meher wished abeer as the clock struck 12.
"Ohh my god...thank you so much... I almost forgot its my birthday tomorrow..." Abeer said in realisation hugging meher before looking around the room.
"Today... Your birthday is today..." Meher corrected Abeer.
Abeer smiled and kissed meher's hair.
"Abeer I have to say something..." Meher whispered.
"I also have to say something... I mean... I have to ask you something..." Abeer broke the hug and told meher.
"Lemme say it first..." Meher insisted.
"No.. Lemme say it first..." Abeer insisted with a puppy face.
"No.. Please let me say it... Please..."
"Let's say it together..." Abeer suggested.
Meher nodded her head in agreement and took a deep breath.
"I'mpregnantabeer..."
"Will you marry me..???"
Both looked confused and shocked.
"what...??" Abeer asked.
"I am pregnant abeer..." Meher said, this time saying in slowly so that it gets sinked it.
Abeer looked like he got the biggest shock of his life and stood numb. Meher was getting scared as the time passed.
"We are definitely getting married..." Abeer muttered under his breath with a cheeky grin.
"What are you saying..??? Aren't you happy...??" Meher asked with her heart hammering in his chest.
"Are you sure meher...??" Abeer asked.
Meher nodded her head in a yes and next minute she was scooped up in his arms and he rolled in excitement.
"Abeer... Tum khush ho na...??" Meher asked not realising anything at that moment.
"Of course you silly... I'm more than happy... We are having a baby..." Abeer said and put meher down.
Tears of happiness pooled in her eyes and she smiled when abeer cupped her cheeks. Meher placed her hands on his and closed her eyes. She wouldn't cry at such a blissful memorable moment of her life. Abeer dropped a kiss on her forehead and then kissed her eye lids.
"I will be able to experience everything I missed meher... Every little thing I wanted to be a part of... I will be beside you every minute pampering you... Spoiling you, ishaan and the little one... Thank you... Thank you so much..." Abeer sincerely thanked Meher.
"Thank you abeer... Thank you for everything... For loving me, for ishaan and now this little bundle of love... But you will always dream of spoiling us... Bachon ko bhi sirf bigaadna chahte ho na..."
"Tum perfect mom ho... So I can do the pampering and spoiling..." Abeer answered.
Meher smiled at the thought of her perfect family. She abeer and their kids. Their perfect moment.
"Kal kya kar rahi ho...??" Abeer asked breaking meher's train of thoughts.
"Huh... Matlab..??" Meher asked in confusion.
"Shadi kar le kal...??" Abeer asked excitedly.
"Fir se bhaag kar..??? No... This time I want a karan johar style wedding with a Manish Malhotra designer lehenga..." Meher told abeer sternly, clearly not liking the idea of a runaway bride n groom getting married in a temple.
"Manish Malhotra... Ohh hello... You are only allowed to think about Abeer Malhotra..." Abeer pulled meher by her waist and placed his forehead on hers.
"I know but lehenga toh Manish Malhotra ka hi hoga... Decision is taken..." Meher concluded.
"OK... But I also want in something in return... Junior meher but with no specs... Two chashmish are enough in my life..." Abeer joked and teased Meher.
Meher playfully hit abeer's arm and pulled his cheeks.
"So junior meher is supposed to be like you Mr. Rockstar...??? Isn't it..??"
Abeer nodded his head in positive and kissed the tip of her nose.
"Main toh gayi..." Meher whispered only to get tickled by abeer and pulled back into arms.
"Best birthday ever..." Abeer whispered into meher's ear before dropping a kiss below her ear lobe.
"Happy birthday love..." Meher smiled and wished abeer.
This was certainly the beginning of their "happily ever after" and whatever happened so far was meant to happen... It was important because without all those hurdles their love wouldn't have win against all odds and they wouldn't have fallen in love again, this time to rise in love.
Zaroori tha....
