Since I feel at ease here.. I will say it here. I dont know, WHY people are shocked and angry when Ovi asked "why didnt you abort". To me, its a justified, practical question, any woman regardless of bhalyai or not, should ASK themselves. They have to ask themselves: do I want to bring into this world, a love child, who will be taunted by society; traditional or western society ( which is albeit more polite n discreet). All things said and done: Pari is a child born to two people who arent married/ werent married... infact, the father is married to the MOTHER's sister. In any society, it raises eyebrows, in indian society its 100 times worse.
Purvi should think of the repercussions of bringing the child into this world, who will HAVE to bear the brunt of taunts, raised eyebrows, pitiying looks and uneasy feeling that comes when asked "Where or WHO is your father"
Purvi was stupid, into thinking marrying Onir would SOLVE all issues. She couldnt have helped the situations in PAri's life, when she had NOTHING in common with Onir. Maybe Pari would be a 'ruthless' businesswoman- had a head for numbers that neither Purvi, Onir or Karanjkars had. In short, she could only hide the truth of the parentage till a certain time. Differences would be MORE obvious if Onir-Purvi had children. Its impoosible to think that wearing Bengali sarees would overcome genetic coding.
Thats why, Ovi's question was justified and pragamatic. One that Purvi should have asked herself before foolishly stating Pari was her "jeene ki wajah".
I am not sure why abortion has SUCH ngative connotations. Its important NOT to abuse the procedure.. but its an option considering bringing the child into this world can put him/ her in a vicious cycle- that is this Big Bad World. But, that said, I do salute women who bring children into this world under extreme conditions, nourish them with love and kindness.
