I have changed my mind about Onir and his by now evident dark secret.

No, Sakhile, a pehli bibi is too predictable and very dull.

I have earlier voiced a hankering to see Onir metamorphose into a silky smooth dark character on the grand scale, and now I have decided that the time for this has come.

So, let us say he has. after drawing a blank everywhere for a regular job, set up as a contract killer😉, and the morning call was to confirm the deal. The lady in the market is obviously his client, and as she could not contact him that morning, she is now running him down in the market. With his round, innocent looking face, any mob boss would jump at him for this job. No one would notice him as he makes his getaway. I begin to like this more and more.

Howzzat?

Like Bob Biswas in Kahaani? 😆 That would be interesting! Onir Babu, secret contract killer.
Nomoshkaar, ami Onir Dutt, Ek Minute! Dishkaaon! (shoots victim)...😆

Lol, Shyamala, I thought you were stouter of heart and would have believed in Dr. Onir Dutt until the dark dreary end 😉

Abandoning ship will make the poor doctor more bent on turning evil. The man has nothing to live for, stripped of his license, no means of livelihood, wife's ex hammering on the door at every turn, hitched to a foolish, hare-brained girl, saddled with her baby, the man is at wits' end and has to resort to shadier methods to eke out a living.

I fear Onir might even be an organ trafficker a la Ekta style! not saying Ekta is one, just in her inimitable illogical contrarian way, she may yet make this transformation believable

Poor Onir, he was such a sweet simpleton 😕, honorable, kind, caring - all this will be turned topsy turvy as he will do a 360 degree turn from his Dr. Jekyll to a sinister Mr. Hyde.

Mephistopheles, here comes the learned Dr. Onir Dutt, entrap him, entice him, he has no way out but to sell his soul to you.😆

Kidding apart, I hope Onir remains the one true benign soul in this comedy circus.

Perhaps that lady is Onir's first wife whom he divorced some years ago. He is getting nervous because he never told Purvi abt his 1st wife. Just like Purvi was nervous abt telling him her ex fiance was Arjun.
Perhaps he married that woman just after graduating medical college, she was a rich girl and wanted him to go abroad but he wanted to practice in Kolkata and help poor people by treating them for free. She didnt like his noble work and divorced him.
Recently she saw him on TV regarding the baby swap case so shes come looking for him and hes getting nervous,,,,,could be a possibility.

Nope, both the theories are still far fetched to me! The life-saving doctor (remember, being a gynaec, he brings life to the world and would face very less to no mortality rates at his operating theatre) to life-taking goon all in a matter of a week's episodes?
Or be a organ-trafficker himself? Why would go to the lengths of exposing his fellow mates instead of negotiating the deal and split ratios with the businessman Mittal? It would be all the more weird on that count that he let himself loose the license that denies him all opportunities to continue his business.
I think it is related to matters of the heart. Not sure if "the woman" was old or young - could be a mother, sister, a cousin who has a dark past.
Or Ekta might turn tables on me and make me look like a simpleton after all 😆 Or I may need to watch more soaps to know the ways of the world. 😛
My dear Watsons, come on, lets have atleast some fun in cracking this case !!

Vasu, or she could be his partner in crime (organ trafficking) and he might be afraid of being exposed?

Or he could be harboring a dark deep vendetta against Manav and/or DK and could really have hidden Ovi's baby somewhere, the baby could still be alive? Or he may have deliberately botched up the delivery, endangering the baby in the process? This lady could be his first wife who knows his true secret as to why he married Purvi and might be getting impatient and hence has come to hound him?

What other wild theories could we throw out?

Onir is impotent, thats why his first wife divorced him.
Thats why Onir jumped at the chance of being daddy to Purvi's child. How abt that possibility.
Now first wife is coming back to do bhanda phoring...I mean revealing his secret.

Hi Jhanvi, The vendetta against Manav/DK sounds plausible and interesting angle. I suspected Sunny once on that count as he gave some wierd looks when Manav had called him to his office for an "interview" before he gave Sunny/Teju the green signal. We can conjure about the motive for Onir but why is he scared that Purvi may stumble upon it. In Bazigaar, SRK was able to keep up the secret from Kajol till the very last scene. 😆
I think Ovi's baby angle sounds doubtful. Onir had a shocked expression while he lifted Ovi's baby during the C-section. Unless he was shocked that the baby was live ! Don't know...
About the first wife thing, Onir seemed eager for the court marriage with Purvi. Hmmm. Not sure.
The lady is definitely Onir's past but why is he scared and not just shocked? Something definitely improper there.
We need our grey cells going, Hercule Poirot (or Miss Marple 😃)

Also, remember Onir told Purvi that the court marriage will take 30 days to happen but then he immediately calls someone and they head off to court. Is their marriage legal? Why is he hesitant to be a "real" husband if he is a sleaze? Is he a sleaze that has fallen madly deeply in love? Is he married already to a rich girl whom he does not care for but then falls in love and marries Purvi (like Dharmesh)?

Aside: Ekta does recycle story lines all the time. Shravani being an unwed mother and almost marrying her brother in law, Purvi getting pregnant before her marriage and the fiance later becoming her jeeju, Purvi not "legally" adopted by Archana, Sachin not "legally" adopted by Manav, Archana being okay with Manav marrying Shravani (change of heart at last min),Purvi being okay with Arjun marrying Ovi.

Edited : Forgot that Sateesh loved Archana but married her sister, Varsha, similar to Arjun loving Purvi but marrying her sister, Ovi.

Don't they wait for 30 days to put up the notice b4 the registration marriage? So, Onir might have had a rich wife and they did not care for each other; he could afford to serve the needy and his wife pursuing the worldly affairs? She might have been presumed to be dead in a accident or went missing but now she has surfaced again? Sounds very logical for a soap!
If so, what a waste of a character! Especially after Arjun mending relationship with Ovi since last week. I still think this will not happen and the red sari wali is perhaps the house owner chasing Onir for the rent 😉 Which one of us will have the last laugh then?

How I hope she is just the landlady pursuing him for rent! 😆 or that it is as inocuous as the real owner of the Kolkata home after him for damages for those stoned and broken windows! 😭

edited my previous post. 😉

Janhvi,

It is not for nothing that I love you! The rent and the broken windows are the best so far. But you disgraced yourself with that organ trafficking associate; no self-respecting organ trafficker would approach her partner in crime in a sabzi mandi, unless, perhaps, she wanted to hand over a spare kidney in that thaila?

As for what I would put delicately as his being unable to father a child, I do not see how that would be a deep dark secret, or why that would bother Purvi. So that is a washout.

As for the vendetta, I think the CVs' poor brains, for lack of a better term, would not be up to the strain of concocting all that convoluted stuff. Their motto is SS - Simple and Stupid - exactly what they take their viewers to be.

And whoever produced "Why is he hesitant to be a "real" husband if he is a sleeze?", I presume it is 'sleaze', and how, pray could he become a 'real husband' unless he forced himself on her?? You have to pull up your socks, and do better than that.

Vasu, if it was you oscillating between HP and Miss Marple, of course it is our very own Hercule, and don't you even think of assigning the grey cells to anyone else. He would sue you for sure!

Also, given the stupid arrangement here with the most recent post going to the bottom, my attempts to produce some order out of this tangled mess have been only partially successful, as can be seen from a couple of loose ends at, where else, the end.

You girls should all thank me for having started this wild chase after motives, you should! Nothing here has been so much fun since we were looking for a dashing new chevalier for Purvi - so very, very long ago - to make Arjun jealous. Now of course she is such a frump that no one could get jealous, alas!

Well, ladies, this is all very well, but I suspect that in the end, Onir is such a slowpoke that it will turn out to be something that is a flat as a pancake.

And no, Janhvi, I was not abandoning him at all. In fact I was trying to upgrade him from the present diabetes-inducing lallu, but even there, I was handicapped by his all too obvious and very stagey attempts to look suspicious. The director obviously thinks our IQ is 57!

Shyamala, you crack me up, flat as a pancake, indeed! and slowpoke! 😆 Kidney in a flower basket would be better 😉 No, no, the deep dark secret is not anything as simple as being unable to father a child. 😆

And you are right, sleaze is what it is (drat that phone has no Shyamala checker on it 😆). If he is a sleazebag, he would be forcing himself on her so obviously he is not, at least not in that way, is what I meant.😳 Or he is a sleaze that has fallen so deeply, madly in love with his mishti that he is unable to live up to his sleazy reputation. 😕

And I knew you could not have given up on him, you harbor too deep an affection for his goodness, after all he is the shining star of PR, the sole savior of this bedraggled show. He is that hope that springs eternal in the human breast, that one ray of light, that belief that there are people out there as virtuous and altruistic as the good doctor. I am not ashamed to admit I hang on to that faint hope myself that Onir the Good remains Onir the Pure. 😆

The CVs have a nasty habit of dashing our hopes and squashing them messily into the ground so if our IQs were indeed over 57 we would have learned our lesson to only expect the worst from them.

No, dear Vasu, it is plain 'Simple and Stupid", both for the CVs' notion of a good screenplay, and their ideas about the viewership.

And what, my girl, is all that about Harry Potter being for the generation after yours? I am clearly of the generation before yours, and you would be hard put to find a 12 year old who was more of an HP addict than I am.

I kept making references to Hermione's Undetectable Extension Charm, wrt the Onir Dutts' single half empty bag that seems to contain all their worldly goods. Not one of you picked that up, and no wonder, if you insist of abandoning the Hogwarts lot to your kids!

Janhvi, praise be to the Lord, does not, and she and I are unashamed HP aficionadas!

And yes, HP and his grey cells are my favourite of all times. You see, the other HP who also weilds magic is not of my generation, more like my daughter's. 😃
