Like many on this forum, I started watching Pavitra Rishta after the introduction of the suave and debonair Rithvick and his opposite number Asha Negi, who seemed to breathe fresh air into a tired serial. But in true Ekta maya style, the relationship this beautiful pair shared in reel life was transient. Ovi the troll entered the scene and bought her bride groom from the saintly orphan Annie aka Purvi in exchange for the reunification of her separated parents. Everyone dually obliged in this charade including the sacrificial lamb Arjun, weighed down by the promises of his beloved Purvi, who carries such a debt of gratitude to her adoptive mother, she is almost paralysed. Purvi who is determined to get a Nobel Prize excelled, and outdid her previous sacrifice by donating her prized Pari to Ovi.
As someone once said, all good things come to an end, which is what transpired in the travesty of a party today. The charade of playing happy families that the troika of Arjun, Purvi and Ovi had been participating in was dually blown to smithereens, leaving much collateral damage in its wake. Onir stood still like a statue, Ovi howled, Purvi shed tears, Arjun defended the former and Manav played the incidental dad...It was deja vu again. And the slap, oh well we have to wait for that tomorrow with Sulo doing the honours. There was one monumental development though- Ovi ending her relationship with Arjun (I am hoping this is permanent). I am waiting for the sage DK, as someone on this forum as eloquently dubbed him, to step in and restore some order to this chaos.
I will refrain from apportioning individual blame for fear of kicking off world war three, given the passionate opinions people on this forum hold. Though it may be a little presumptuous on my part, it seems that Purvi will get lambasted for having premarital sex with the man she loves and taunted about how she tarnished the family reputation, even though she is now married to a so-called world famous gynaecologist. In my opinion this is wrong and very regressive.
Why not celebrate the fact that Purvi did not abort the baby but make the courageous decision to give birth in a conservative society like India. For once, why can't we see a strong Purvi rise up from these ashes like a phoenix and piece her life back together, realising she owes nothing to the Deshmukhs. Now that would be a revelation, though a pig will fly before it ever comes true.
