Arjun was sitting on an armchair in his bedroom facing the bed where Purvi was sleeping. She had a troubled frown on her face. Earlier, when the doctor had visited, Arjun came to know that his wife was extremely weak due to starvation. He also came to know from his chef that Purvi did not have her lunch or dinner on time...she used to take her food to her room most of which went uneaten.
Arjun cursed himself for not giving Purvi the time she deserved, for not taking care of her, for not supporting her when she needed him the most.
Purvi was the girl who changed him from a workaholic businessman to a good natured human being. She was the one who taught her to find happiness in the tiny things of life. Whatever he is today, he is because of Purvi. Whatever she did, it was just out of the immense gratitude that she has for her mother for bringing her up, for giving her a name, a family. Arjun now understood. Of course the of repaying was very wrong as it could have broken them badly...but at the end of the day, her intention was noble.
But what he did to Purvi, was just pure ruthlessness. He knew Purvi loved him...he knew she realised her mistake long back before his father had told him anything, but still he tortured her & himself too by staying away from her...by not speaking to her.
Arjun felt extremely guilty for whatever he did & promised himself that he would make it up to her. He will never let a single drop of tear come in her eyes again. He was torn from his thoughts when he heard Purvi's voice. He saw Purvi was stirring in her sleep & muttering his name.
Purvi- Ar..Arjun...I...am..s...s...sorry...
Arjun climbed up his bed & sat beside Purvi & caressed her hair softly. Tears rolled down his cheeks & fell on Purvi's face. She slowly opened her eyes & saw Arjun crying. On seeing her awake Arjun smiled at her.
Purvi tried to sit up but as soon as she lifted her head from the pillow, she felt dizzy. Arjun understood & held her shoulders carefully & helped her up. Purvi was confused as to how she ended up here on the bed & why Arjun was crying.
Arjun was relieved now that Purvi was awake. He helped Purvi sit & then went on to get her medicines & a glass of milk from the kitchen. When he came back, he saw Purvi sitting with same dazed expression that she had on first seeing him after she woke up. He smiled at her. She also smiled seeing him, but it was a little hesitant. Arjun placed the glass & medicines on the bedside table & sat beside Purvi.
Purvi- What happened to you Arjun? Why were you crying?
Arjun could not control himself. He kissed Purvi all over her face & grabbed her in a vice tight hug.
Arjun- Dont you know Purvi? You scared me bad. I thought I lost you. I am really sorry Purvi. I was really bad to you.
Purvi was both happy & shocked at the same time. She hugged Arjun back.
Purvi- Why are you saying sorry Arjun? I am the one who is sorry. I love you Arjun. I love you so much.
They both stayed that way for a long long time. In each other's arms where they belong.
