I agree, that lauki halwa..looks horrendous.. what is that yuckky green color, no ghee and cashews 😊.. my mother makes the best..it waters your mouth just looking at it.. this one looked eeww.!! PR needs some cooking classes too.. he he..

I wonder why they picked Lauki ka Halwa ...

Is it because it is distasteful on the face of it...( fits right in in PR 😉😉)
Or is it because, due to its color, it is easily identifiable ...and so can be a recurring character? 😃

My dear Pancham,

It was probably because, as you say, it is a tasteless and characterless vegetable, exactly like PR itself these days, and needs an awful lot of sugar to make it even barely palatable!😉 A very good fit, would you not say?

Dear Jyothi,

I am glad you liked it, and I hope it made you feel a bit better. He is a stupid and exasperating boy, but he is neither a cheat nor a Casanova. If he had been either or both, you can bet that he would be very comfortable now, juggling girlfriends like balls in the air, and not a problem in sight.

I was watching that lauki ka halwa and the khatai in the garage scene yesterday, and it reminded me of that other one that I had written about at such length, when she brings him lunch to his kholi , and washes up afterwards. I felt very nostalgic, and very angry with both of them for what they have reduced themselves to. Of course more with her than with him, for she was the prime mover.

If you ever watched that hilltop scene, you would remember how ghastly Purvi was, in terms of both looks and behaviour. To get him up there at that hour, she tells him over the phone Tumhe mujhpe vishwas hai na? I never got over the damned deviousness and wrongheadedness of it, and that is why I do not at all buy Priya's defence of her and the motive for what she did, whatever bee and some others might say. She used him ruthlessly, and now she is luxuriating in the fold of her parivaar, with her Manav Baba, Teju, her aai and even Savita all drooling over her, and a halo fixed firmly around her head. And where is poor Arjun? Out in an emotional Siberia.

As always a good thread and post Shyamalaji...
To the bolded part, because they used to share a relationship that no words can really describe where they can ask/give anything to each other, I feel she was right in her place to ask for this sacrifice(moms happiness Vs her happiness) but I wanted Arjun to say no and just leave from both their lives. Purvi was the one who was caught in an emotional turmoil, but Arjun had none of that. He could have just walked away that day :(

My dear Susmita,

Thank you, my dear; I am glad you liked this post and the thread as a whole.

I agree with @blue in your comment, but only in part. It is not just a question of her mom's happiness Vs her happiness. You have forgotten about Arjun. She of course did not, but for her at that point of time, he was a disposable commodity, and she disposed of him to her own advantage, i.e that of her mother.

If their relationship had really been as you describe, and as Priya above tries to make out, why then is he complaining so bitterly now about his own stupidity in having done what she wanted of him, and feeling that he has got nothing out of it and is miserable and totally alone?
He should have been glad and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to her mahaan tyaag. But he most emphatically is neither, for the realisation of what his ladylove has let him in for is only now dawning on the poor fool.

Regarding your view on what Arjun should have done, I agree completely. As you would have seen from my main post, my mother, a very wise old lady, felt exactly the same, and she is always right!

Have a wonderful Deepavali next week.

Ah but Shyamalaji, if I may call you that,

With the right ingredients - khoya, cashews, ghee ( read- actors, script) ;
The correct execution of the recipe (read - the writers, directors and to a certain extent the actors again);
And a certain amount of faith at the start of preparation that the end product is going to be palatable (read - viewers confidence?);

Even something as mundane as Lauki can hit a high note and be delicious (ArVilicious) for some of us😆

I don't know whether you have given ArVi another chance since the fiasco...the Arjun who you absolutely loved in that Mandir scene pre-confession...still makes an appearance every chance he is given. When he gets mad at Purvi for taking to the road at an unGodly hour and Purvi's responses are a treat to watch. The Pre Lauki scene and of course the Lauki scene are again, in my opinion, highlights of the past few days. And how could I forget the dinner plate episode at the wedding. Their relationship has undergone the 'End of innocence' and they both are portraying this metamorphosis pretty good.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the Lauki Farmers Association has Pavitra Rishta to thank after the Baba Ramdev for the spike in sales.

I am truly honored that you responded to me personally. This is definitely a takeaway from you.
