Shyamala Aunty,
I agree with your synopsis about Archana's feelings and would like to add one small detail.
Archana has started meandering down 'Arjun Acceptance Avenue' but hasn't committed all the way yet and it still looks as though it will be sometime before she becomes as surefooted as a mountain goat down that path.
One thing that I took away from today's little scene between Archana and Purvi in the doorway was that Archana realizes then that Purvi's is not her little girl anymore - Purvi's grown up before her eyes.
Archana has finally begun to understand the depth of Purvi's love for Arjun. Purvi never asked for permission from her to go looking for him even though she is still on that 'understood embargo of not meeting him' - she just informed them and took off.
When she came back sans Arjun with worry etched all over her face, Archana told her she was leaving. Purvi - her daughter for the past eighteen years, her wajood, her swabhimaan, - just said ok and sailed past her to park herself on the couch to worry about Arjun.
Purvi definitely at plucked her mother's heart strings with her indifference today and, to me, that little act opened Archana's eyes. I thought Archana displayed the trepidation of a mother who has noticed that her progeny's wings are now unfurled and ready for flight.
I think she'll now see Purvi in a different light and can reconcile that Purvi is truly, madly, deeply in love with Arjun.
Although this is PR land and everything I said could all be topsy turvy tomorrow, I'll go with that for now. 😆

Purvi thus waits for him in vain, and it is revealing of her present state of mind vis-a-vis her aai that she makes no attempt to hide the mounting strain in her eyes. There are telling little touches at the midnight puja that highlight her acute anxiety. She stands next to Archana with the garlands of flowers for the baby Krishna's cradle, but her mind is far away and her eyes are on the clock, and she does not even hear her aai's voice or see the aarti thali that she is offering. As soon as the puja is over, unable to contact Arjun on his mobile, she rushes off to the garage and draws a blank there as well. By the time she gets back home, she is so frantic with worry that she barely reacts to Archana saying that she has to leave now (without meeting Arjun). The strong bond of empathy between Purvi and her aaji is highlighted when Sulochana, who has been trying to hold Archana back for a while longer, rushes to comfort the desolate Purvi, leaving Archana at the doorstep.
In an interesting departure from her harsh and hostile attitude to the Arjun-Purvi relationship till now, Archana makes no snide comments about Arjun's no show, otherwise mock him for not turning up and having apparently failed to meet her challenge. She probably realizes how tense and worried Purvi is about Arjun, and perhaps she is also somewhat concerned about the possiblilty of something having gone seriously wrong with him. In any case, Purvi is spared having to listen to any unpleasant comments from her aai.

Laurie, how sweet, when did you begin to call Shyamala "aunty"?
True, all that you said about Archana. Her insistence on leaving in time irked me somewhat, she could tell by her daughter's looks and behavior that the girl was beside herself with worry and instead of sparing a thought to the distraught Purvi, all she could think of was her own sorry plight at Savita's. She is no green young girl, newly married to be so afraid of how her in laws would react. For all her 45 to 50 yrs (can never decide how old she is), she persists in acting like a fresh bride, it grates on me. That fringe was the last straw, I watched the epi on my phone and the entire time had my finger on her forehead to mask that fringe as it was so infuriatingly distracting and unbecoming in a mother of 5 grown children.
I digress, when she looked back at Purvi seated on the couch and teared up, I felt she was for an instant cognizant of Purvi's pain but was shedding a tear at her own majbooran. She could have stepped back in at least for a moment and consoled her child without ever uttering a word but she did not. I did like her gentle touch on Purvi's face after the aarthi though. Well, serve her right, she goes home to her two ungrateful wretches who ignore her and even her normally thunderstruck at her looks husband stalks off (perhaps it was that fringe) without a second glance at her face.

loved the post, but most especially loved the last bit- really the Churan being hit by a tempo bit really could have gotten a razzie award, it was the most illogical tripe I had seen, and I still am unsure how Churan would have not heard the horn and the ensuing shouts of Churan...
