Dear Janhvi,

I think that now, since Teju feels completely at home at the Karanjkars, she treats Purvi the way she treats Ovi. In fact she is gentler with Purvi than with Ovi; I remember how abruptly she drags Ovi away from the Mexican pasta and salad and forces her to come to the Karanjkars in the chawl, and not only eat kand poha and then dinner but stay the night as well, none of which she wants to do to begin with. Teju treats Ovi like a slightly retarded kid sister, whereas she is her twin and a successful model as well.

I think it should do Purvi some good to have a rough and tumble 'sibling' around; it would smoothen out her rough edges and teach her survival tactics. Not just how to handle shilly-shallying boyfriends firmly (without either screeching at the top of her voice, or looking so much like a tragic muse and staring at him out of large accusing eyes that anyone within 100 yards would know something was up between the two of them), but also how to tackle the vicious members of the Karanjkar parivaar. When I heard Purvi vouching 200% for Punni to Arjun, it made me feel queasy. All the Karanjakar women are certified idiots when it comes to their parivaar, and Purvi probably has the zeal of the convert, as she is a Karanjkar only by adoption.

As for your being "too sensitive when it comes to Purvi", I am not surprised. If the Love-Purvi club in this forum, which would be about 95%, had their way, she would be neatly enclosed in a glass case like a piece of Dresden porcelain, safe from all shocks and protected from the big bad wolves. What with every frame of every scene being gone thru with a magnifying glass to identify every real or imaginary affront to Purvi, it is no wonder everyone seems to be perennially on edge.

My heart went out to her when she was in a flood of tears over that pagdi photo, but in general I have no sympathy to spare for either her or Arjun. I do not like foolish people, even if they are very young (though how you place Arjun at 20 I do not know. He must be 23-24, and Purvi 20+, or even 22. She is said to have been working for that firm for over 3 years, and how she got any education if she started working at 18, I cannot for the life of me understand). The one is chronically ineffective when it is not a business matter, and the other says one day that she will never talk to him and he is a stranger to her (when she plans to continue in his office) and the next day she turns up with a project file and glowers at him across the table, while he looks like something the cat brought in. I wonder what the other people there made of it.

As for me, right now, Teju is about the only character I can stand. Having her around is a tonic for nerves frayed by the eternal moping of Arjun and Purvi on the one hand and Manav and Archana on the other. Teju has been remarkably consistent so far, and I hope she stays that way. I am looking forward to seeing what Teju says and does when the truth about Arjun and Purvi is revealed.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed or if it is only my over active imagination but Teju is getting a bit louder and almost obnoxious in her bossiness. Not today, not at the lunch, she was sweet and caring but when Purvi refused to come to the party, and a couple of other occasions, I just have not liked her over zealous behavior. I love Tej don't get me wrong, maybe I am too sensitive when it comes to Purvi.

Dear Archana,

Thanks a lot for the compliments.

If I told you to stop worrying and relax, you would not listen to me, so I shall desist. I will only note the obvious, that whatever is to happen will happen, and there is no point shredding your nerves about all sorts of imaginary scenarios. All our stories are like this, beginning with the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The wicked flourish till the penultimate reel, while the good are mostly certified fools. It is not just us either - the Greeks, the Romans, all wallowed in tragedy. Then why not Ekta Kapoor?

As for the main dramatis personae that we are all agonising over right now, please see my post above to Janhvi. It says it all as far as I am concerned!

Shyamala, your post was extremely well-written, logical and factual as always. Thank u for the factual analysis to help me assuage my fears. Much of what u say makes sense and it is calming me for now, however, I do agree with Laurie to an extent (**grins**love the part about u being ordered to put ur phone away to get coconut ice cream btw) I don't think the POA is over yet. I know Jhanvi that u think it served its purpose but I don't think so. See even if Purvi didn't get POA and had rejoined office in her normal capacity, she still couldn't have quit- she would have raised suspicions regardless. The POA isn't what keeps her there. She rejoined after she and Arjun realized their love for each other...with or without POA if she had quit for the 3rd time, especially after the engagement, it would have definitely raised suspicions for sure. As was pointed out in the previous post she tried to claim work stress-Archana didn't buy it.
I agree with Laurie...there is something more to this. And Punni is back now. That's what has my hackles raised so much.

Dear Archana,

That is a very well worked out and plausible scenario, but I feel that you are thinking on these complicated lines for the very good reason that Arjun-Purvi keep ricocheting from one crisis to another, and we are always on the lookout for yet another disaster.

I would like you to consider three points, all of which are a matter of fact and not of interpretation.

1) When DK gets that call from Manav about his wanting to fix the marriage date, the first thing they show him as thinking of is Arjun saying that he cannot marry Ovi as he loves someone else, adding a moment later, in response to the sharp question from his father ,"Purvi". He had agreed to Arjun's change of heart not only because he loves his son (after his own dry fashion, but very deeply nonetheless, as a precious gift from his beloved wife), but also because he thinks his wife would have wanted Arjun to marry the girl he loves. He does not come over as the heavy handed father despite his initial, and entirely understandable, burst of anger. He will not go back on this.

2) Though Purvi has the PoA and in theory does not have consult anyone about any decision she might want to take, in practice she does invariably consult Arjun on file and take both his inputs and his views. So, there is no possibility of her taking a major decision without Arjun being in the loop, and so if there is any flap, Arjun will of course defend her and mollify his father.

3) DK does not play any active role in the management of Arjun's firm, which Arjun runs independently right from the beginning. You will remembe that we have never seen Arjun consulting his father about anything; as Manav is a half partner, he does consult him about the chawl renovation project, but in general he does his own thing.

DK is now only looking after Manav's business affairs in Canada and their other affiliates outside Canada for the duration of Manav's stay in India. There is no indication that he takes more than a cursory interest in Arjun's firm ,and none at all in the individual projects they handle.

Given this why would DK issue an order about some matter that Arjun's firm is dealing with that could be (unknowingly) countermanded by Purvi? Project decisions are taken only by the person actually handling them, and DK is nowhere in the picture for any OVT project.

This apart, even if he did somehow give such an order, it would be done in writing. Purvi would immediately know whose order it was, and she would NEVER countermand DK's orders. She is really rather scared of him.

I do not know how far the above will carry conviction with you, but this is what I believe, on the basis of the facts as we know them so far. I am sure it will make you feel better! So don;t have any more funny feelings and relax.

This said, I would agree with your assessment of Ovi's likely reaction to Arjun slipping out of her hands. As I mentioned elsewhere, she is like a sleek, well fed and well cared for cat (not a kitten!) and if you stroke her fur the right way, she will purr and like your hand, but one wrong move and she will snarl and scratch.

Lastly, Archana, as regards the sentence in red, Punni is not thinking of tackling Arjun-Purvi first and then turning her sights on Ovi. It is in fact the opposite. She thinks that once Ovi is told about Arjun having an "affair' with Purvi, she will break the engagement (she does not know what Ovi is like when she is crossed!). As for Purvi, Punni is confident that after Arjun has once got engaged to Ovi, Purvi will not touch him with a barge pole. Thus she thinks that her road will be clear. What self-delusion!

Dear Shyamala,

You do seem to calm all fears out there...Oooh catty cat for Ovi, well said...agreed. Loved ur description of Punni- self delusion. I did like the lunch scene esp the point you made abt Purvi's thoughts trusting ARjun before he sent her that text...and i saw ur comments on Laurie's post, perfecto...it was too good...really you write well and your writing shows how experienced you are in presenting and analysis and synthesis both fact based and opinions, many thanks again. We wait for your posts and threads...

Dear abhi,

What can I say in response to such very flattering words but Thanks!! If I could, I would blush, but I am afraid I am past the age for blushing, and in any case you would not be able to see it.

Now, as for our main dramatis personae, if you have not already seen it, you would enjoy reading the message I sent to Janhvi yesterday on this very thread.

Now we are waiting with bated breath to see what Purvi will reply when Archana asks her about "the girl who is trying to snatch away my daughter's happiness". If she tells the truth, the consequences will be unpredictable but definitely dismaying. If she dissembles, she will then realise that it is not so easy to come clean after all, and she might come to have some sympathy and understanding for Arjun's predicament.

This said, I have always felt that Arjun should have found some way of cornering Ovi, lugging her to a really quiet place sans Teju, and told her the truth very kindly but firmly. This more than anything else because he knows her since forever, and obviously has a soft corner for her and does not want to hurt her more than he can help. This is the reason for all that hesitation and throat clearing that has, so far, never come to anything. He feels sorry for her more than for Purvi, though the knows how much Purvi will be suffering, because, as Archana pointed out, he firmly believes, indeed he knows, that Purvi and he will be together in the end, whereas Ovi is going to be left out in the cold. We think that Ovi's love for Arjun is a childish infatuation, but you cannot expect the object to this love to share this viewpoint, especially not when she looks up at him and says that she loves him and that he is her life. The sense of guilt for not being able to love her in return would, as Archana had explained so lucidly, be acute, and this paralyses him.

However, he does not seem to have grasped the simple fact that the longer this charade is maintained, the more Ovi will be hurt when the truth comes out. But then, it is typical of a man to avoid unpleasantness as long as he can, and when I say this, it is despite (and perhaps because of ) the fact that, as Sir Humphrey Appleby (of Yes Minister) says in the opposite context, most of my friends have been and are men.

Dear Janhvi,

You are very welcome.Always glad to be of service. I started with just Trish, but now I see that the list of those not just wading thru but actually welcoming my Agony Aunt columns grows apace!

Talking of Teju, it just came to my mind that she was the first to spot the meanness and the money-grubbing nature of Vinay's mother, and she spoke up, advising Archana strongly against any such alliance for Purvi. She took the matter head on, without the slightest hesitation, and that was admirable. If Arjun could see his way to co-opting her (she has always had her doubts about his loving Ovi, though not the other way around), he might be much better off, and she might even tackle the Ovi end for him to start with. She could do it in a trice, and almost convince Ovi that she would be better off without Arjun and with a solid career. Alas, I don't think this will be tried out at all.

Coming to the immediate future, you might like to look thru my post to abhimg above. I am sure you will agree with my comment that it is typical of a man to avoid unpleasantness as long as he can!

Well, Abhi, the question has not been answered, it has rather been sidestepped. I think the promos and the perhaps also the SBS segments, are occasionally misleading,

To begin at the beginning, I came in a minute late, and there was Arjun acting tough with Purvi by holding her hand tightly during the opening of some sort of conference. The rest was pretty much as in Tanyaz' update, with Arjun's lines having been liberally cribbed from the climactic Shahrukh-Madhuri love scene in Dil to Pagal Hai.

When Purvi tells Arjun that she feels no jealousy when he is with Ovi, and that she feels nothing for him, her voice says one thing and her eyes say another, for all the world like Madhuri Dixit in that scene. No one (else) in the forum seems to have cottoned on to that, so I suppose the CVs do not have to fear a plagiarism suit from Yash Chopra!

Purvi has chosen the best way to hit back at him by insisting that she does not love him any more (right now, she is trying to salvage her hurt pride as best as she can). But I am sure he does not believe her, she looks too woebegone and vulnerable, and then there is the male ego!

Apart from that, the Arjun-Purvi scene was much of a muchness : repetitive accusations, and Arjun never getting beyond Just listen to what I have to say! One is strongly tempted to box his ears and shout Well, why the devil don't you SAY it?

The CVs seem to have run out of dialogue as well as ideas, and the scene is like a fuzzy copy of all the other shouting matches between them over the past 2 weeks. Except that this time Purvi goes into much greater detail about what he had meant (and of course still means) to her, and how much he had hurt her by forcing her to fall in love with him and showing her dreams and making promises, only to leave her dangling in the end. And yes, she goes back to the middle class mantra, why I cannot understand. I do not know if all this extra stuff in meant to goad Arjun into action.

And to answer Janhvi's question in another thread, no, she does not say that he would never get around to telling the truth. Nor does she mention Ovi and how he has betrayed her as well

As for the promo, Archana was not asking Purvi who the girl was with who Arjun is supposed to be having an affair, but rather who the girl could be who made the anonymous call to Ovi and tried to create a split between Ovi and Arjun (Punni, of course, but WHERE does she get Ovi's cell number? Another of the liberties with credibility that the CVs take so often). Purvi seems to be thinking about this puzzle, and does not answer . Anyone with a grain of commonsense and any kind of knowledge of the Karanjkar parivaar would have hit on the correct answer in a trice, but not our dear, good Purvi, who would never dream that it could be her tayi. God help us!

Earlier, Purvi ends up giving a certificate of good conduct to 'Arjun Sir', assuring Ovi and the rest that "there is no girl in Arjun Sir's life". It would of course had been impossible for her to tell the truth under the existing circumstances; Ovi in tears, wailing that she cannot bear to lose Arjun. Teju trying to shake some sense into her, and the other too clucking about Ovi like concerned mother hens. I do not know if this scene made Purvi realise how tough it can be to tell the truth and to bear the consequences.

I think we are in for a week or more of hide and seek, with Arjun increasingly desperate and Purvi as distant as she can make it. and Ovi stuck between them, like the filling in a sandwich - both literally (in the promo) and figuratively.

By the weekend, Savita will be here, and the whole game will change (infinitely for the worse, of course).

Thnx Shyamala,
I have not seen any of it, will see it tonight...
"I do not know if this scene made Purvi realise how tough it can be to tell the truth and to bear the consequences."

I do hope Purvi realizes and gives some benefit of doubt to Arjun (although he has goofed up many a time and like you said should take Ovi where there is no cell phone, no meeting, no distraction and TELL HER THE TRUTH about ARVI)...😳

"Purvi has chosen the best way to hit back at him by insisting that she does not love him any more (right now, she is trying to salvage her hurt pride as best as she can). But I am sure he does not believe her, she looks too woebegone and vulnerable, and then there is the male ego! "

Loved this analysis too (liked all of it and how you go about writing with emotions but with your head on ur shoulders and really described well), hit the nail on the head 😊

Yes, i do hope our dear dear Arjun somehow between Purvi and OVi, gets somewhere trying to convey his feelings to someone and gets across to them (especially Ovi, who has the more to lose as she is planning on a future banking entirely on DK uncle's son AK) without the throat clearing, without the silences, without the disruptions / interruptions/ cell phones, or just "I have to say something important to you" or "believe me"...
Liked ur post where u said only if Arjun could take Teju into confidence, so much simpler, i do like her. 😊
Not looking forward to the return of Cruela Deville Savita...🤢
